a $10 pricetag for a remaster nobody asked for..
people are definitely free to spend their money however they want but keep in mind that you're voting with your wallet and Sony is listening..
I don't mind it as a cheap optional upgrade. If it was only sold separately at full price, I would definitely not be happy with it. Sony went about it the right way. I will be getting it myself as I have had HZD on my PC for years now and only played about 8 hours. I have been meaning to replay it as my first playthrough was on PS4 Pro. I want to replay the original before I play HFW. So, I am getting this cheap upgrade to play the best version.
by all means, enjoy..
i'm simply saying that there are better uses of recourses than remastering games that seemingly just came out only a few years ago (PC release was in 2020) and still look great..
i personally don't mind remasters of older titles from generations past.. but this is pure milkage.. and, again, Sony is taking note..
we gamers complain that we're tired of remasters of old games and would rather publishers and developers concentrate on new games.. yet when a remaster is announced, especially one this blatant, it's "this ain't so bad" and "i don't mind".. 🤷♂️
$10 is nothing. People spend more on deluxe editions of games that come with some bullshit skins or whatever. This remaster offers more than that. Had this been a full price game only, it would be some bad milking as this is ultimately an unnecessary upgrade. However, due to the pricing, there is not much to complain about. I now view it as a nice bonus.
This is what Nixxes does anyway. They are working on multiple projects at a time. The investment is minimal from Sony and it employs people to work on these upgrades. They will easily make up the cost of development and they are not taking away resources from Guerrilla. Guerrilla is still working on whatever they are working on.
Sony's output has been lacking for a while. So, a remaster is going to draw negative attention even when it is fairly priced. Had Sony been pumping out bangers regularly, this wouldn't be getting the attention that it is. I guess that is kinda of the point of it too. It is providing some filler while people wait for the new games.
all of that misses the point.. the mileage someone gets out of $10 certainly varies but i agree, it's a relatively small amount of money..
the point is that Sony is milking a loyal fanbase out of that $10 for a remaster to a game that has already been enhanced more than once since its release and still looks amazing..
if they announce a $10 remaster for Horizon 2 next month, everything you said above still applies.. but it still doesn't change the idea that Horizon 2 was just released relatively recently, no one was asking for an upgrade for Horizon 2, and that upgrade is just shameless milking of the IP..
that type of attitude to this milking will only ensure that Sony (and others) will take note and continue with these needless remasters.. and maybe we wouldn't need so much "filler" if they were concentrating on new games instead..
