Poll Horizon Zero Dawn or Ghost of Tsushima? (43 votes)

Horizon Zero Dawn 49%
Ghost of Tsushima 51%

Both are big new IPs from Sony this gen and both are open world.

Ass Creed with robo dinos vs Ass Creed with samurais.

I think both are great so it's a close one for me. Ghost of Tsushima has bigger world with more stuff to do and fun combat, but Horizon's robo dinos was something special and the fights with huge enemies was spectacular.

That's like choosing between Far Cry and AC. In other words, sh*t vs sh*t.

It's very similar to Assassin's Creed but closer to Far Cry. It follows all the open-world tropes laid down by them.

Ghost for me. Its new, enjoying it immensely and I am biased for it right now. Few definite thing that Horizon have over Ghost is Horizon Zero Dawn graphics is just unmatched. Better camera handling in fights too.

@me2002:

On no way, I'm no fan of those games. Um, I'd say it's a very different experience than past Gears games factoring in the fun and cool skiff vehicle and those more open world levels but still retains the mechanics and feel of a Gears of War game.

It's my favorite Gears surpassing Gears 3 IMO.

And sorry, was just playing and I'm done sidetracking your thread, forgive me. :)

@Juub1990:

The similarities between Horizon and some of Ubi's games is pretty striking. Similar skill upgrades, samey stealth systems, ridable mounts . Also the last couple Tomb Raider games.

Days Gone is another one.

Anyways Tsushima seems like it might be alright for the the first 10 - 15 hours, and then becomes a chore - just like all these other copy and paste open worlds. Atleast you can beat Horizon in under 30 hours - apparently GoT is a 50 hour slog.

It's 50 hours long if you do all of the other stuff, not just the main story. Main Story is under 30 hours, but there are some worthwhile side quests so it will probably take most people longer.

For the poll, I would go with GoT, might be because it's fresher on my mind, but I really like the combat and the world is fun just to explore and be in; which is something I think a lot of open world games struggle with

I really like the combat but I absolutely suck at handling larger groups:

- Instead of pulling off all these crazy stunts and following some sword slashes with kunai's I just flunk and mess everything up.

- I'm not that fast with switching stances, but I'm getting there

- I also have no idea how to handle those bigger type enemies that constantly throw unblockable attacks your way. Like you need to get in close to get some sword slashes in, but then once I get close they throw an unblockable attack, I try to dodge or jump over it (when it's a low attack) and just get hit each. and. every. time.

@R4gn4r0k: What difficulty are you playing on? If you're on hard I would bump it down to medium.

For larger groups make sure you're using the smoke bomb that you can map to R1, it will stun all the enemies and give you 1 instant kill with the square button, after the insta kill most of the enemies will still be stunned so you can get some slashes in.

The larger enemies or Brutes have a stance you can use that is effective against them, but you will need to unlock first by defeating enough Mongol Leaders.

Also make sure you are progressing through the main story, at least past act 1, as this will unlock more techniques for you to use

Hope that helps!

Thanks a lot mate!

I'm now in act 2 and it's really here where the combat starts to get really tricky. And I specifically mean encountering more of these larger groups and brutes.

Because before when fighting say 3-4 enemies, I thought the combat was really fun.

But I'll try out your tips, thanks again ;)

@R4gn4r0k: Absolutely!

Also try to do some of the Tales Quests that are blue on the map, the ones where you listen to the musician, they unlock special techniques and armor! One of the techniques is a quick dash that dismembers enemies and is an instant kill for the smaller enemy types!

Hell yeah, I love the tales. Though they end in a pretty tough boss fight, which I managed to pull off with enough perseverance.

I also don't think I will do the one that gives you Archer (Tadayori) armor, because I'm just too fond of the Samurai Clan armor that gives you extra armor and health.

I basically only switch between Samurai clan armor and Traveller's attire. I sometimes wear the Sakai Clan armor, just to initiate a stand off, and get that extra 'free' kill.

I wanna say I like both only because I really enjoy Horizon: Zero Dawn & Ghost of Tsushima in there own rights, but if I must pick on, its HZD and only because its now on PC.

Its always so funny when people love comparing Far Cry to Assassin's Creed when neither of the two aren't trying to be lol.

Someone described GoT as "like a Batman: Arkham game, but in Japan and as a samurai" is that a fair assessment?

Anyway, H:ZD for me. On PC, of course.

Dumb description if I even heard it and nothing like Batman because Jin cannot fly errr glide through the air. Gamers need to lay off the Batman comparison cause this isn't helping GoT case.

@R4gn4r0k: try smoke bomb + chan assassination ×3 it's got me through some difficult fights. First let enemies surround you, use some bomb, then chain assassination ×3. 3 enemies down with 1 smoke bomb.

Chain kills in standoffs helps getting rid of some enemies at the start of a battle.

Use kunais, stickie bombs etc at group of enemies, not only does it do area damage but also leave enemies stunned.

Also there's this special move that saved me so many times, it's from a blue quest I'll let you discover for yourself.

GoT has way better, enjoyable, combat than the Batman Asylum game I played. A lot more combat options in GoT. You have normal attack, heavy attack, stab attack, block, parry, dodge, roll, combination attacks and special Weapon attacks, etc. I enjoyed the combat in GoT a lot more, therefore it is a lot different than Batman, imo.

Plus GoT has an open world, which I assume is big. The artstyle in GoT is also noteworthy and better than Batman.

Horizon was fun but GoT is easily better to me in a lot of ways.

Both suffer from the same issue. When you have a huge open world with great visuals, but not a single side quest/thing that is half interesting, we have a problem.

The story in GoT hasn't grabbed me like HZD did. Setting was better for me in HZD too because I was motivated to see the crazy locations and enemies. The setting is good in GoT as well but the biggest draw for me will be seeing what types of cool sword techniques I’ll be able learn but that’s not enough to motivate me to keep playing the game, I’m only maybe 3 hours into the game.

You can bait larger groups by peeling them off one by one. Run around. Get take 1 archer out with 3 quick swipes. Repeat til all archers are out.

Run around, most of the time, even if there's a group, there's only 1 or two actively going to attack you.

Your anti spear stance also starts from a mile away and spears are aggressive so do the same trick. Attack them one at a time, run again.

Boring but no supplies used.

AI is also dumb as hell for stealth. Just spam headshots. Upgrade longbow to carry normal arrows to headshot people with helmets but afaik needs to be fully drawn.

The toughest parts are the duels but it seems that there are AI baiting tricks for it too like spamming flying kicks or mid-range triangle using the first stance (stone stance/against sword types).

Haven't finished the game though. Just around in the second area.

Once you start using kunais, bombs, explosive arrows, and upgrade those stuff, gets pretty easy.

PS. I suck at games.

It also has important distancing for most melee attacks and doesn't have that funny game trope outlines when targeting mooks. Except anti-spear/water stance. That thing flies across the screen.
