Video games are just not scary at all. Movies do a way way way better job at being scary. Gaming gives the player controls witch takes out all the fear from the games.

You already stated this is the Amnesia thread, must you make a new thread about this. By the way, go play Amnesia in the dark with headphones and tell me it is not scary. Putting you in control actually makes it that much more terrifying. Games >>>> Movies in terms of horror experience.

Completely disagree. Horror games can be incredibly visceral in terms of instilling fear. It's that control of the character that conveys the fear.

That's why good horror games take away some element of control or advantage.

If anything that breaks your own argument. You watch movies and you play games. When your in control it makes it more effective cause its you whos in charge so its like if its you in the situation.

also i just don't get scared, i get a short jolt of excitement, then blast somethings head off and i'm good. If a game took power away from the player, maybe horror games would be scary.

I will take a horror game over any other genre. If you don't like a certain type of game just ignore it. There are plenty of genres I don't care for, but I don't run around making topics about it.

Agree with that. I guess I'm just a wimp, buta lot of games can scare me. Uncharted 1's level with the mutants scared the crap out of me, and I'm having a very hard time playing through Bioshock because everything scares me. I still haven't picked up Dead Space, and probably never will because of how scary people say it is.

Movies better at conveying horror? At least video games have had a legit scary title released very recently. When was the last time a mainstream 'horror' flick was actually scary instead of merely appealing to torture and gore fetishists? Early 90's, maybe?

I was scared and I wouldn't consider us wimps because of it. I mean it was really unexpected at least for me. It was such a huge change in pace from going to action shooter set in lush jungles to being in that bunker area with those things coming at you. It was pretty awesome.

I can't even begin to process the thought of movies even having a chance of being a scarier format than gaming, but that's just me. Heh, college students with a cheap hand-cam on the internet have been whipping the movie industries ass lately.

Actually I think gaming is much more scary than movies could ever hope to be. A good horror game will make you jump out of your seat and make you fearful of going around a corner to see what is around the bend. You are in control and you can have things attack you from out of nowhere. A scary movie you can just close your eyes if you get to scared and wait till its over. There is nothing personally scary about that at all plus you have no actual connection to the fear element involved.

That's your problem..you're looking in all the wrong places, mainstream horror film (for the most part) is dead, hollywood can only **** out remakes of classics or generic/cookiecutter splatter flicks

.. if you want good horror nowadays...indie and foreign horror is the way to go.

Movies aren't scary at all to me. The only one that came close was The Ring and even that is just meh to me now. I find video games like Condemned, Amnesia, and Penumbra to be a lot scarier than any movie I've seen.
