im thinking atleast 3 times as big as most the COD4 maps to fit 60 players comfortably and if done right it could be awesome
but 256 people in a shooter? why? theres no way that could work good imo

I dont doubt Resistance for a second... but MAG I'll remain skeptical.
It can work, on pc's they have done games like MAG.
The big thing is making sure everyone works toghether, this wont be everyone for themselves COD4, chances are in battle youll be taking orders from other players, those who dont get demoted and kicked out.
I want to the the guy in the parachute or the guy piloting the plane dodging missiles :)
The game coming exclusively for PC/360 is already in it's second beta and has I think up to 5000 players so take a look at the level in it I guess.
Release date set at Nov. 25 2008
Huxley Reaches Second Beta

Huxleyis a massively multiplayer online first person shooting game utilizing the UNREAL3 engine to create a world of up to 5,000 players in the same gaming environment. Huxleytakes place in a post-apocalyptic world where human beings have mutated and are divided into two opposing races, Sapiens and Alternative. At the center of the battle for survival is Lunarites, a promising new energy source highly coveted by both races. Forced to battle against one another for the continuance of each race, Sapiens and Alternatives will do whatever it takes to wipe out the opposition and gain control of the world and its resources.

that article is almost a year old man...
5000 players in 1 map :? MojondeVACA
probably an area split up in many maps on a cople of zones
kinda like World of warcraft
Well, MAG is an MMO so you'll have instanced battlegrounds and such just as in all MMO's. Maps will have to be large, obviously. Joint Operations on the PC had very large maps and that was only 150 players and not an MMO. Planetside, which was a MMOFPS on the PC (pretty good game too), had large large maps. It took hours just to take one base and that was 150 vs 150 players (300 players). So MAG will have to have very large maps. Whether or not it's possible on anything but a PC we'll see. I'm not expecting too much of a graphical powerhouse from MAG.
As for Resistance 2, just a bit larger than the first. 60 players isn't tough to accomodate and the original already had maps large enough for 40.
I guess these large numbers are something cool and new for the console crowd but I can tell you from playing them a few years ago on PC that the concept is actually more interesting to talk about than to play.
Most of the ones I played had me hoof it for 5 mins over the map then get sniped right as I made it too where all the action was.
I can only hope lessons were learned by devs from those games to make it a better experence than I had back in the day.

Doesn't look good at all for Huxely, at least an English version, and especailly the 360. It's been said that all of the street dates are wrong and to expect the PC version *possibly in 2009, but Webzen is not updating their English site. It looks like there is a good chance this could get shelved, as many in Korea are already playing. I'm guessing the Fate of the game lies in whether it does well over there and they have the resources to convert to English, and then to Console.
I hope so. That IGN article btw was from November 2007...eeek
Also, if people want large maps, just pick up BF2142 or BF2 or BF1942. They're massive...
huge and just a plain bore to traverse all that distance. have "fun"?diped
yes, but remember Tribes? The jetpack made it so much fun :) Talk about huge maps, and that was a decade ago.
