How big of an impact will the $399.99 PS3 make?

i hear cows screaming $400 PS3 = End of 360 and Wii.

But how much of an impact can this price drop make?

Isin't the PS3 still the most expansive console? IIRC the Wii is still $250 and the Premium 360 is $350....and the cheapest PS3 is $400..so I don't see this price-drop helping much....also note that there is a $500 PS3 out there so some consumers might think that the $400 PS3 is gimped (and techincally it is, missing 2 USB ports and no PS2 BC).

So how much of an impact can this price drop make? Especially since the software library of the PS3 is way inferior to the 360 (widely accepted statement, 360's got GeOW, Halo 3, Forza 2, Mass Effect while the only titles PS3 has to look forward to is Uncharted, R&C, and if UT3 makes it this year...signs point to no...also most multiplat titles hit the 360 months before the PS3 counterpart....stranglehold, orange box, etc.)

The aftermath of high price is already hurting sony....losing DMC4 exclusitivity, losing Monster Hunter 3 completley (MH is hugein Japan), many games not even announced on PS3 (only 360/PC)...or just Wii.

So will this price-drop help this sinking ship? If the PS3 doesn't hit 10 million by the end of the year...I see much more 3rd party loss.

you need to start qouting them, Any1 can be cows nowadays. But it will help.

It will lead to better sales. Case closed.

the ps3 sales will improve over the next few months due directly to the holidays.

If you look at it from a hardware stand-point, sure...you do get more. But video games aren't about hardware, they're about software and the 360 leads in that department by a great deal over the PS3, and whether you like it or not video games DO add lots of value to a video game system.

considering the recent survay stating only 1/5 of 360/ps3 users uses the extra features i don't think casuals will see it that way

Much of the populace has stopped caring about the PS3. MGS4 and FFXIII aren't coming out until next year, and the other really hyped games have been underwhelming, some more than others, but none of which warranting a purchase. A slightly cheaper PS3 isn't going to do much. At least the 360, at a similar price, has enough good games to make a worthwhile purchase, but the PS3 is lacking. And, to be honest, even if the PS3 were to get alot of really good games, I've personally developed a bit of disdain for the system in general. The PS3 has become something of a joke in the gaming world, and SDF giving Lair a 10/10 doesn't help anyone's opinions. >_>PannicAtack

In Japan it's only about $340 and it has two colors, black and white, I think JA PS3 will sell insanely.

it'll outsell 360 thats for sure.

especially since the holiday version will come with spiderman 3.
