- Charge 14.99 per month
- Then tell players they have to host their own servers
- HUGE PROFIT!
Voila! An Xbox live model.

yeah cos the concept of paying for things monthly was invented for XBL subscription.

I think you missed Point #2.
I'm pretty sure XBL invented the subscription + host your own service model.

How so? Doesn't XBL make you pay an annual fee, then ask you to host your own servers using Peer-2-peer matchmaking?
Nah, MS should had let Ensemble complete the Halo MMORPG and made it's access free to all gold subscribers. :D

He's saying that while companies in the past have required you to pay to play their games online, this was due to the fact they hosted dedicated servers. However, the TC's point was that Microsoft does not provide dedicated servers for XBL, which in terms of online play, brings into question why it is your paying.[QUOTE="razgriz_101"]

I think you missed his point. I doubt he was seriously suggesting that Blizzard move to peer to peer servers.Of course... EA could pull an "XBL" by charging people who host their own independant Ultima Online servers $9.99 a month. :D

That is an excellent question. It would be like going to a restaurant but being cooking your own dinner while you are there and then being charged for it. :P
Perhaps Strider would like to answer this question

Who says an invisible bag couldn't hold weight? No one pointed out the obvious yet. MMOs cannot rely on player hosted servers period. It will not work without a central server. It cannot be player hosted and still be a MMO game so the comparison does not work. And yes the xbox live service is a rip off. Not very expensive but a ripoff nonetheless. Materia_Ashes
arent alll public realms are not player owned? the only way to get that is to have a private server, which to me is a waste of time

EA sports are all dedicated servers, L4D1 and 2 are on dedicated servers. what xboxlive does is take the features of exlucsive content, like 1 vs 100, game with fame, game with who ever. demos for every single game, discounts, real prizes contests. there are mods too, there are way more people working than PSN will have. only on xbox live would a male think a famous female would ever show her chest http://kotaku.com/5488432/i-was-an-xbox-live-celebrity-for-one-night-onlyI think you missed Point #2.

Yes that is correct. There are no player owned or player hosted servers on battle.net (maybe open battle.net) but definitely not in WoW. (Except for the cracked pirated servers)[QUOTE="dog_dirt"]

xbox live isn't offereing servers though, its offering a standardized netcode thats built into the 360 services so if you want a game that runs on live, it will run through live services and the dev's don't have to write all that code, and the quality for things like voice chat, p2p networks, and other things are more stable and secure from cheaters.[QUOTE="gamer-adam1"][QUOTE="Materia_Ashes"] I'm sorry but I do not understand your question.
