its not even debatable seriously, the only good thing about the 360 controller are the triggers (which doesnt mean that the PS3 has bad ones, they also work flawlessly)

the dpad is terrible, why the hell did they made it 8 way instead of just 4? more than often the controller detects that you hit a diagonal when you actually just hitted forward, its horrible for fighters.

the shape of the analog is terrible too, both of them, its harder to aim with them and the shape makes your fingers slip easily. the xyba buttons have terrible shape and the distance between them makes it very uncomfortable for fast pressing.

the l1 and r1 (forgot the names) are simply the worst buttons i've seen on a controller...they are like the Z from the gamecube controller, its not a standard button, you cant press it from every angle, you have to press it from the edge or it wont move, and it can get stucked easily or simply not recognize that you pressed it.

and the batteries, why dont they use rechargable batteries like the DS3? hell even the battery life of the DS3 is way better than standard AA that the 360 controller uses

seriously the only thing good about it are the triggers and the fact that the "select" button is called back and that it actually has a function.

How could anyone ever think that abomination known as MLP:FiM is good?

On topic; DS3 > 360 pad all day, every day.

The 360 is one of the most comfortable controllers for me.

As for the batteries issue, there are wired 360 controllers if batteries are that much of an issue.

Only real issue I agree with is the D-pad being bad. Outside of fighting games though (which I don't really play much anyways), the D-pad doesn't bother me much.

The 360 controller is better. Not by a large margin, but it's more comfortable than the DS3 for sure.

I dont want to pay an extra charge for something that ms should have covered first. dont they get enough money with live? and i dont know man, every button in the 360 controller feels so distanced from the others. and the right analog stick is f/cking bad

becaue people have different tastes and different opinions, the triggers are far better on the 360 pad, i find the analogs on the Ds3 to be to loose, i prefer the resistance in the 360 analogs, i prefer the offset placement of the analogs on the 360's pad, my fingers have never slipped on the analogs either, as for the batterys i can get 12 batterys for less than a quid and theres a plug and play charger for the 360 pad anyway,i also have one of the new pads with a morphing D-pad so the d-pads not an issue for me anymore, all this is just my personal opnion and i can see why other people might prefer the Ds3 but me personally i prefer the 360 controller, it feels more comfortable in my hand and i like the weight.

The Playstation controller will always be inferior in my mind, since they put the left analogue stick in a really terrible place.

Your left thumb naturally rests up near the top of the controller, which is where every other comfortable controller (Gamecube, Wii, Xbox 360) places their analogue stick. Instead, Sony put their analogue stick further down and to the right, so that you have to awkwardly hold out your thumb at a right angle in order to move (made worse by the fact that your right thumb will be in its natural position).

It's an awful design fault - I honestly have no idea why they haven't changed that yet, since it makes even basic movement feel uncomfortable.

If the left analog wasn't in a natural position on the DS3, then the 360's right would have to be unnatural. There really isn't a "natural" placement/position anyway.

Also it isn't awkward at all. It feels perfectly fine.

As far as comfortability and ergonomics, the 360 controller has the DS3 beat. It's no contest. But, the DS3 has an infinitely superior D-Pad, better analog placement, and pressure sensitive face buttons.

I don't use the dualshock, I use the Logitech controllers that have the same format as the PS3's controllers.

What I can say is this: the PS3 controller is better for fight games and games that abuse the d-pad. The Xbox 360 controller is better for shooters (the dual analog asymmetrical setupd) and racers (actually having decent triggers). I also feel like the 360's controller fits better in my hand, but that might be because I have big hands and whatnot. Otherwise, no big quality differences.

What about the right analog? The left one just swapped places with the d-pad, and as bad as the 360's d-pad is, its uses are still quite prevelant in all facets of gaming. You could also argue that while the DS3' placement is less ergonomic, but it provides better leverage by not having your thumb resting in the neutral position. I'm not saying which controller is best, but the analog placement is a weak argument, and comes down to personal preference at best.

I can think of much more valid points for the 360 controller; the aformentioned trigger buttons, the overall ergonomic form, several power options, built-in headset port.

Well the 360 controller DOES have better triggers and to me it feels more... sturdy? Overall I prefer the DS3, but they are interchangeable enough to me that it doesn't bother me much either way. 360 pad gets more use from me these days simply because it's so well supported on the PC in games that I want a controller for.

I prefer the 360's controller, mainly because the handles on it fit the contours of the hand much better than the DS3 does.

PS3 controller is a joke, that is how

Anything is better than the way SOny places the two sticks and back buttons, it seems so much like an afterthough and is so akward to use everthing is not even funny

360 is the perfect controller, all buttons are ergonomic and everything feels so fluid and natural to use, there is no comparisson, get over it

It is all about torque and balance, PS3 controller is terrible in balancing

TC is actually right, alot of shooter fans will disagree but the DS3 is superior in many ways. first of all the 360 controller is more comfortable and does have better triggers. but the face buttons are slow and clumsy, the analogue sticks have a much larger deadzone making the DS3 more precise. it is quicker to press r1 than it is to press in a trigger, this makes shooting on the ds3 a split second faster. fighters, sports games and platformers play a dream with it. and shooters are quicker. on a technical basis it leaves the 360 controller for dead with built in battery, on the fly slot swapping and pressure buttons.

*laughs* then I guess the fact that in any recent contest between the 2 such as whom had the most kills in multiplayer the 360 players have won every time *the most recent in memory was battle field 1943 360 players got the extra map unlocked 3 days before the ps3 players* Its a bunch of bs that the 360 controller is less precise its also just plain stupidity to make a claim of slow and clumsy face buttons *laughs hard at that one* Lets not forget that the 360 wireless controller has 40 more hours battery time with AA, And recharge pack then the ps3 controller does.

P.S: and preasure sensitive buttons? of which about 20 games if that use such function on the ps3.

Did i mention the horrid battery life of PS3 controllers ?

I have to plug mine every few days right now to charge all the time, it is so infuriating

Sony actually forces you to buy a new one or a long charge USB cable to have it pluged in all the time, but that is not what wireless is about

I rather deal with the 360's crappy d-pad than force myself to use the POS Sony controller. Everything from the size to the analog placement, I dislike about it.

You forgot the fact that the DualShock 3 uses 10-bit analog precision, while the 360 controller uses 8-bit, the same analog precision used in the PS2, original Xbox and Gamecube.

competitive gaming-i.e. 360 controller........... ps3's biggest advantage is the d pad, but even that is outclassed by tournament sticks. Plus kb/M beats them both for fps.

I kind of agree. Except I still prefer the xbox 360 controller because it has better ergonomics. Now if someone would be an affordable controller with the xbox 360 shape and triggers, but playstation rest, it would be the best in my opinion.

ChubbyGuy40

If the left analog wasn't in a natural position on the DS3, then the 360's right would have to be unnatural. There really isn't a "natural" placement/position anyway.

Also it isn't awkward at all. It feels perfectly fine.

if your a person with okay big hands ds3 is not good at all.. imo too small for me atleast and awkward positions of analogs .. tho i will give that its better at fighting games maybe racing .. but fps and tps games no way ..

It is better. The analog placement is better, it has a better grip cause of its form and is a bit heavier which a lot of people prefer. Also, the triggers... so good.
