Seriously I have always wondered how can a series like Final Fantasy be this popular by being this cheesy? Everything from the music to voice acting just screams cheesiness! How can ppl stand the annoying Jpop music? If the gameplay was good I would understand but everyone says they play it for the great story. But how can a story be great when every character is so overly dramatic...I cringe every time I see a cut-scene of a FF game. So are FF games supposed to be like this? Do ppl play these games just to make fun of the characters and the music?

the soundtrack is one of the best this generation has yet to see. As far as the rest goes... well I don't know really, the japanese cheesiness never really got to me. Maybe it's because I grew up with them? I don't know..

I've only played FFX, FFXII, and FFT: WotL but I don't recall any J-pop songs (maybe there are a few). The characters are dramatic to give them more life and make it more of an emotional experience.

There are some cheesy moments in FF games but nothing over the top. It's really not a big deal.

And the music for FF has always been outstanding and most characters are good, so don't know where you get any of that from.

What emotional experience? The characters are over dramatic about every single thing...it's like watching a terrible soap opera.

There are plenty of games that have waaaaaay worse voice acting and waaaaay cheesier writing in fact alot of popular games have some amazingly cheesy scenes and dialogue. Example from Halo 3: "where are you going?" "To war!" I burst out laughing at that and just shook my head.

The old ones weren't too bad. They started going with super cheesy and lame characters with FF7. Series never recovered except for a brief come back with IX. The rest after FF6 are garbage.

FF 13 has Leona Lewis singing so, it's not a J-pop theme.

The voice acting is pretty good(I hate the Japanese voice acting... I feel like stabbing out my ears!! And Vanille, Serah can all go to hell) but it's got good story telling and decent mechanics (most games though there are some exceptions...)

IMO the truly cringe worthy scene is the Tidus and Yuna laugh. I'm linking the Japanese one for murder.

Yup FF never had cheesy characters before VII! Good thing II, IV, V and VI don't oh wait. They totally do! Honestly I love IX to death and all but it had some of the cheesiest characters in the series.

I agree but Halo isn't even close to being as story focused like the FF games. I play Halo for online and coop.

From my experience, the only J-Pop I've ever encountered was in X-2...and only in the opening.

That's an opinion, I dare say an unpopular one (nothing bad can go platinum with every new entry). And I've played many FFs and not a single J-pop springs to mind except the one from Sunleth Waterscape (where I'm at right now, LOL), which I found very good. Search for it on Youtube, it's by no means bad, and will only bother people who have a phobia against Nippon.

So, by your logic as a gamer your looking for a game Devoid of emotion or Music that (in context) Suits the game andI think the j-pop your referring to in ffx is a song that is linked with yuna anyway and wasnt really promoted in the states or Uk as a single so it wasnt exactly in your face, I think you will find that all games Will feature Dramatic Performances (as im sure some people forgetthat it is entertainment and Is trying to tell a story no different than a book(gasp!))And as much as i would like to see a final fantasy game that bends this narrow minded opinion I Will ask this question back Why did you ever pick up the game? also final fantasy 1-9 does not feature voices other than attack grunts etc when you pick a game next time try to remember that Your not just pressing buttons for 30+ hours your taking part in astory that initially interested you into buying/renting the product in the first place. I personally Like the cheesiness of them but then again I guess there are no Cheesy contrived american games ...Dragon age theres a Rpg (dice rolling anyway) Genre those are thereal Rpgs ...main character doesnt even have a voice lol. Lastly Ff13 song is sung by leona lewis ... Is that still j-pop!?

I agree with what you said, but your text needs formatting. Add some para-breaks in between.

How can ppl stand the blandness of Western RPGs and Gun games? all thier characters are super serious, barely move thier limbs and have about as much emotion as a sack of sand. how can ppl constantly want to listen to generic fantasy/scifi music over and over? Everyone says they have great storys when DA is just LOTRs and MAss Effect is just Stargate atlantis? I cringe when I see a scene where miranas best friend dies and all she does is a macho attack on the enemy then goes back to being perfectly normal..... shes so cool.... theyre all so cool. :P As you can see.... it can be done both ways... I personally like both when it comes down to it, I like Japanese culture, its entertaining and lifts you up abit.... if I only got to play WRPGs I would be so depressed =/

I nearly forgot : any scene with Vanille and Serah. God... ughghgh my head hurts every time they speak. And Snow needs to back off from the little girl.

I'd personally like to send Vanille's voice actor to NASA and have them blast her off into the sun. That would make me happy.

She can be annoying sometimes but there are other voice actors much more "worthy" of sun blastage. I actually prefer her to the japanese VO judging from the trailers.

God of War 2 (one of my all time faves) has Kratos say the most corniest thing ever...

Kratos : Father? *surprised but then gets angry* I have no father.

1. it is foreign 2. different culture 3. acquired taste 4. still entertaining (for me that is) 5. Women like cheese I dont watch anime or whatever either but I can cope with it---sometimes it makes you feel quite positive.. haters/cynics/the depressed just hate happy & lively characters. (though I kinda wanted to slap those angst types that dont see change)

Games in general are cheesy on purpose. Most games fail hard when they try to take themselves seriously. Personally I can't stand the "tougher than thou" parts in games where bald space marines crank out cheesy one-liners in most Western games.

Sorry but gym bunnies are not any cooler than girly anime type characters that the Japanese use. They're all over-dramatised exagerations that are not meant to be taken seriously.

FF games have the best soundtracks in video games PERIOD. (well IMO) if you're thinking of it as cheesy they JRPGs are just not for you because all of them try to replicate the success of FF and being cheesy just happens be to a part of that success.
