How can the successor to COD4: Modern Warfare just be called Modern Warfare 2 ?

It is confusing and doesn't make sense, it is supposed to be a new series so to give it a two in its name it has to be a sequel however if it is the first installment in a new series how can it be a sequel? It would be stupid to call it Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 or Call of Duty 6: Modern Warfare 2. Modern Warfare 2 works fine.

I think the only reason they changed the name is so they dont have sequel numbering and confusing issues in the future . Imagine a Call of Duty 10 modern warfare 6.Games like final fantasy, megaman, streetfighter, zelda have this problem.

I dont care what its called, if Inifinity Ward doesnt do something new then i wont be buying it. im sick of all these CoD rehashes.

I think Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare 2 would be more confusing, plus its been proven that games with shorter titles sell better than those with longer titles.
