How can XBONE turn this gen around?

As an XB1 owner i feel microsoft isn't even trying to be the market leader.

They haven't put out any truely great games

THey are relying heavily on third parties and most of those are running better on ps4 hardware or pc

they aren't bringing exclusives every couple of months a great exclusive should be dropping like the 360 had or snes or ps2 etc

xb1 feels like nothing is coming for years basically thats my drift of it they aren't trying they haven't tried anything at all basically

honestly im sick of owning a distant 2nd/3rd place console, if im not numbers 1 or even trying to be number 1 then why did i buy your crap?

I'm pretty sure all the holiday price cutting Microsoft did was an attempt to catch up and become no. 1 again. It didn't succeed but it revitalized Xbox One sales in a big way.

I think it was only the start and they don't have to be no.1 again to do well. Nobody beat Wii in sales but that didn't stop Xbox 360 or PS3 doing well.

It's just a different philosophy when it comes to the gaming industry with MS. They came in the console industry because of Sony, but not because of the games they had, it was because of the numbers they produced $$$.

Everything is Plus/minus with MS when it comes to the game industry and their main focus is to put in the least investment or risk for the maximum return, not making great games. MS never wanted to complete with Sony/Nintendo they wanted a monopoly so they wouldn't even have to invest in games.

The exclusive games (Halo/Gears) MS has found success in are the only games they truly want to give full funding for and ONLY want to release them when they can get the most return (holiday season, oct-dec).

It's not that MS can't release great games, it's just that they aren't interested about competing for gamers (money) in that way (too much risk).

They've done an outstanding job turning things around after the awful reveal, since then they righted the ship and it's been full steam ahead as I see it. Let's see what they do at the upcoming shows especially E3.

They are consistently making price slashes and bundles. There's not really anything more they can do. For instance, selling things like controllers and peripherals is a big way console manufacturers make back money against the cost of the system. Games are also the big bread winner. Microsoft is literally kicking itself by doing things like bundling two or even three games with the console and two controllers.

This thread is unbelievably stupid. At this point, they are in no position to woo third party developers to make exclusives for them due to market position. They've run what little first party muscle they have literally into the ground (I mean, we have a third Forza game coming up and there was already a Halo game with another on the way, too?). OP, you just need to face the music. If XBox was a car, it's engine would be red-lining. No other console in history has had as many repackages and price cuts in its first year out as the Bone.

4.) They're focusing on games just as diligently as Sony is, but on top of this broad media capability as well.

5.) They want to bridge the gap between the PC and Xbox with DirectX 12 and Windows 10.

6.) They're trying to create and acquire unique games and new IP's all the time.

OP, what you're talking about is completely unfounded, and the fact that you're focusing on sales figures of sheep is pathetically stupid. Why do you care if a bunch of people buy a PlayStation 4 at a higher frequency than an Xbox One? It's their loss, they're buying into a very underwhelming platform which has been a perpetual letdown. Why is your happiness stringent on sales figures which mean nothing more than people buy into hype more than logicality?

The Xbox One is in first place in every department that actually matters, the PlayStation 4 can have its few extra pixels and indie games, that's all its got going for it. I'd rather have a platform that is actually moving forward and not stuck in the now...

a lot of new first party ips. They cant do anything about hardware ( powah of the cloud bs ) and the kinect factor is zero and its cheaper than ps4....they just have to keep doing it with games.

You're bashing Forza for being a regular release regardless of them being fantastic games, you're bashing Screamride for no reason, it's a game developed by the creators of Roller Coaster Tycoon franchise which mind you was very successful. You're bashing the Xbox One getting regular updates to add and improve things... You're bashing it for not having exclusive games which mind you it has more of than the PlayStation 4 and a new IP such as Sunset Overdrive...

The PS4 has the best multiplats? What in the hell does that even mean? Because they're at a slightly higher resolution in some cases that's for all intents and purposes almost entirely indiscernible? Woopdie f**king doo... Lately these 'inferior' Xbox One versions of games have been running considerably better because the PlayStation 4 can't handle the resolution it's being forced to operate at and as such performance suffers.

New games like Killzone? Killzone is new? What about the other five Killzone games? New lol... What planet do you live on... Also Killzone Shadow Fall was extremely mediocre... Why don't they put out a new Halo like they did Killzone? You mean like Halo 5?

All I can tell you is I haven't enjoyed a game the way I enjoyed Forza Horizon2 in a long time. Best game in a while.

It's kinda funny at the moment, I don't think they will turn it around, but I find that a big shame.... It's the better console outside of GPU power, in features, variety and just overall feels nicer to use. The PS4 feels like 5 years behind in the infrastructure/OS departments.... and I'l say it again, Kinect isn't bad... if your taste of gaming entertainment isn't limited to blockbuster sh*it that we play ALONE years in years out. But hey, what do I know? I should hype the legion of s*itty tech pushing games that we have played over and over again and praise them as they get more shallow, more streamlined and more marketed... because that's what makes games great right?

It's funny out of ALL of my systems.... the PS4 has the least "fun with friends" factor.... I'm still waiting for a use for it outside of the girlfriend when she use to play FFXIV on it.... (no longer) ... at the moment it's just building up free games that I've already played on PC.

MEanwhile , X1 and Wii U get decent use.

Guess what I'm saying is.... X1 is fighting a losing battle, but the PS4 other than sell sell sell has done NOTHING for me as a gamer yet.... "preferences" and all that cop out arguement aside, the PS4 is about the most shallow gaming console I have ever owned.

Despite it's #1 sales that imaginary developer support is not there... Sony studios are downsizing, they can't adapt and expand like Microsoft at this point. What makes it worse... The whole damn console feels like a repeat of the ViTA in the games department, relying on mass distribution of multiplats/indies to say "OH LOOK HERE, WE HAVE THE MOST GAMES... SEE! SEE!.

Ofcourse, the embarassing part of that stems from the fact that it's the best selling, yet feels like a ViTA .... no identity of its own, not many unique games (that do well anyway).... an absolute embarrassment so far.

Bloodborne better blow my socks off ... because there seems to be nothing outside of shallow 3rd person shooter son the horizon.

I think it's kind of a miracle they've done as much as they have to turn around their disastrous console reveal and fallout the stemmed from that. Like any system though, it's gonna need that killer app.

Currently I'm playing TMCC, still have a lot of game content to go through on that, my PlayStation 4 is the console that gets very limited use in my household.

I don't even own an Xbone. But, it has consistently seemed to get the better (subjective) console exclusive games since day 1. The Xbone catches a lot flak for some of it's exclusives not really being exclusive because they are also available on PC. But let's keep it real. As much shit that you guys talk about PC, mostof you cows don't actually game on PC. So you don't have access to those exclusives. Let's cut the bullshit lol. True, it's just an assumption, but I'm betting it's an accurate one indeed. ;-)

I can admit, I bought my PS4 at launch based on hype, and everyone, including myself, was eager to move on from last gen. I was coming from my TLOU high, and I was hyped from The Order reveal trailer (thought it was going to be Sony's Gears of War..). Plus, I wasn't a PC gamer at the time. But I know the system will eventually have at least a few games I would like to play on it. Namely Persona, TLOU2, Project Horizon (maybe), and Bloodbourne (maybe).

But man, the Xbone does not get enough credit around here. They had one the worst console reveals in gaming history, and they are still going strong. I've forgiven them long ago because they have been consistently trying hard to mend that shit, and have been updating the Xbox throughout. Hell, Microsoft in general has been reshaping for the better since Balmer & Mattrick left.

@mr_huggles_dog: Such good games, I was playing them yesterday. Seeing as those were developed by Dice and owned by Microsoft, that's not likely to happen.

The Misses prefers the Xbox 1 ... It's just a plain better feeling console , prefers the controller, plays Kinect Dancing/Sports/Fitness (I join in for kicks now and then) at the moment she isn't playing much on that either, just Lego Marvel and Assassins Creed: Black Flag.

I play Forza 5 GOTY (since I had it free, along with kinect for free) I will probably get Fable Legends considering its free (and probably coming out later on PC). The list isn't long, the multiplats look almost identical to the PS4 ones.... the gap between them is miniscule compared to PS4/X1 to PC.

The smart tv functionality is far better than my actual samsung smart tv, it gets used quite a lot.

Not a strong list right? I agree.... as I've said, consoles are becoming redundant, lacking excusives, lacking console-only multiplats ... just constantly playing catch up.

But right now, it serves more purpose than the PS4 ... the only thing on my PS+ list I actually want to play now is Last Light... will get around to it, but its like 4 hours long, and infamous was a reptitive kiddy casual friendly game even on highest difficulty, it had no soul, but mayaswell play it.

It can't it has been handed a loss and must deal with it and build around it, just like every other gen. Don't confuse youself.

The problem the Xbox One has, is it's creation, they created at first the all in one box focusing all there efforts on Apps, TV connectivity, and then games second, they even said in an interview with the lead designer of the Xbox One that there plan wasn't to go for the all out gaming machine, but a box which could do everything, but of course thats when you get, yes it can do everything but it can only do everything ok, instead of focusing there effort on a gaming console, on which the 360 made it's fame before all the apps came as being the cheaper option and it's focus games, now they put it secondary to the apps, why??? because they make the most money from the apps being on there system. Of Course now we have phil trying to pull it back into a gaming system, but it's a uphill battle because the machine it self was designed with the console being an all rounded system rather than an all out game machine, but he is starting to pull it back a little but, to be quite honest I really don't see it touching PS4 sales, no matter what the fanboys say from either side, Sony do produce quality first party games, in a variety of genres, while Microsoft seem to focus on there main franchises which is around 4 or 5 genre's, Halo, Gears, Fable, Forza. That's not to say the Xbox One won't sell well, it is just the design process and first steps at launch which have failed them.
