Just look at the facts here: 1. They changed so much, including that fact that Dante is English instead of Japanese now. 2. It's called Devil May Cry, no numbers and no subtitles. When someone does a reboot they usually give it the exact same name as the first installment like Mortal Kombat did. 3. The Spider-Man movies did an origin story too, even though the storyline of movies are quite different com the comic books (correct me if I'm wrong)... Why are there so many who think its a prequel to the same story? It is an origin story, an origin story for the reboot...

It's attempting to tell how things got to how they were in DMC3 from my understanding. Which is moot, because DMC3, in and of itself, is an origin story. Where Dante is a teenager, no much older than DmC Dante.
I guess we'll have to wait for more info on the story to come out and judge.
This person agreed with me but apparently in some videos Ninja Theory and/or Capcom said themselves it is not a reboot and people believe that. ( http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/28701977/dmc-trailer?page=0 ) There is no way you can have so much retcon in an origin story and not be a reboot.

Capcom doesn't realize that DMC never really needed a reboot in the first place. The major problems associated with DMC4 was stupid crap like dice games and lazy/uninspired level design. It had nothing to do with Dante getting stale and old.

Sorry for the double post but I think this is also significant. I believe Ninja Theory partially blamed the poor sales of Enslaved on the outrage from fans of DMC. I may be wrong, but the point is that they refused to take responsibility for Enslaved's lack of quality, instead blaming it on the consumers. Such behavior is simply irresponsible and immature.
And to think that this is the company that is supposed to resuscitate DMC.

I think you would have to ask the person who claimed that DMC was Japanese to clarify what he meant. I meant that Dante's race was Japanese and now for some reason he's Caucasian. I was not talking about the developer nor the language the games are in... EDIT: I have only played the first and third games. His home and his race is actually never stated IIRC, I think the games take place in fictional locations that are usually not named.
this is the series death rattle, I mean it's Ninja Theory, they should've been out of business after Enslaved, now they're tasked with making DMC, what was Capcom thinking, I can understand their desire to want to reach out to Western developers to take up making their games, but reach out to good ones, just don't look for the first Western developer that'll do it
