How can you downplay the success of the XBOX360?

Other then RROD; there's nothing negative that you can say about MSFT's second attempt at captureing market share in the home entertainment market.

• The hardware issues were promptly followed-up on and customers for the most part treated fairly with extended warranties and quick console turnaround
• Games and content are top notch and on time for the most part
• XBL and services are still far and away the best of the next-gen consoles; they are worth the price

On a relative basis the Wii and 360 have been far and away the successes of "next gen" thus far. I'm sorry SONY fanboys, but BR, "so called better hardware," home, games and content, and faultering a 110 Million-PS2 base lead into the worst launch in console history has taken the PS3 luster into a perpetual ... "wait for this, wait for that" scenario in which you fanboys are in a constant state of waiting for the next gimmick to make PS3 live up to its potential... In my opinion the PS3 should be leaps and bounds beyond where it is today... and that makes the PS3 a flop... but it's a great BR player ;) so it's all worth it...

Besides sales... which I think all consoles except for Wii can't brag about...

PS3 has had THE MOST "screw-ups" while XBOX360 had the single BIGGEST... the real difference is that SONY has taken too long to remedy it's mis-steps while MSFT recognizes them and acts accrodingly.

There is no doubt the PS3 is a good piece of hardware with a lot of potential... problem is that we are still technically waiting to see how "next-gen" it truly is... that in itself is enough to discount SONY's reputation and console.

I'm sorry.... I just can't get over the # of threads still saying the 360 is the Dreamcast... and is a POS when SONY are clearly the ones who botched their console launch and as a result trajectory for the life of the PS3.

Yet PS3 has worse exclusives, worse library, and sells worse on top of that... What console would you say 'has' a good library?

The thing about the 360 is that its library isn't that bad in reality. It will be interesting to see the next xbox that comes out, and what kind of leap in power it will bring.

But more and more people are using PSN now the games are starting to support mics. When PSN eventually equals XBL i'm gonna stop paying for it. The overpriced add on equipment is a major problem as well. An overpriced hard drive and you have to pay for wifi. Sure they treat customers fairly if the 360 has a problem but the problem should have been fixed by now. I'm still waiting for my Elite to get back because it RROD last week. It shoulda never happened in the first place. Games and content are on par with PS3 now. That point is invalid. This isn't 2006 or 2007 anymore. WhiteKnightXIII

It's barely selling better than the Xbox despite having a better library. It's been at the 20 million mark for FOREVER... it's like it just stopped at 20 million.

Original xbox had 24m in 4-4.5 years. 360 will probably hit that by the end of this year. 3 years total. I wouldn't call that barely. But its certainly not Wii like success either.

It is the best console out on the market for games. You can't honestly have played all 3, PROPERLY for long periods of time on each and say otherwise.

It baffles me as to why there losing, they've done everything right except for the hardware. It's a pity, because that sort of effort deserves a win, all those great games going unplayed for no reason.

The only thing next-gen about the Wii is the motion controlls it isn't really pushing ANYTHING besides sales. The 360 is pushing next-gen no doubt but its incredibly stupid that you say PS3 isn't. Hell PS3 is more next gen then 360. The PS3 hardware isn't that different from 360's considering how most games look and play the same lately. The games and content will arguably be better then 360's. The 360 has a weak 1st and 2nd party line-up and its getting by on multi-plats and old games and a few exclusives. Yes the PS3 may have had the worst launch in history but its currently making a huge comeback despite the advantage the competitors have. That wait argument is so stupid. PS3 only owners can play Uncharted, Resistance, MotorStorm, Tools of Destruction, Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavenly Sword, and the many multi plat games while they wait. Are 360 owners not waiting for upcoming games. People always say PS3 owners are waiting but guess what? 360 owners are waiting for Gears 2, Fable 2, Alan Wake, L4D as I type and you know what most 360 owners are doing while waiting, playing games from the past or playing online while waiting like PS3 owners. RROD is the one reason I will never get a 360, even though I like it and its games. I find it unreasonable that I'm expected to go through 2-3 360s to get one that doesn't die. I'm not willing to spend that kind of money on such a fragile console. That's why it's PS3 for me.SlorgieNel

Lame. I've been gaming forever and believe me, a free 3 year warranty comes once in a lifetime.

Main problems for me are, not including major things that other consoles have free, like Wifi, considering it's supposed to be the ultimate online experience, not having wifi built in, a feature the DS has, is kind of unacceptable. The splashing of cash, I hate how Microsofts changing the market, before it was "Well if they have a big FPS then we need one too!" Hence the dawn of "Halo killers" and whatnot, now MS just go, "Oh they're getting an exclusive are they? This big wad of cash says otherwise..."bobbetybob

and not including HDMI is acceptable? EVERY system that was EVER built came with a cable to connects your console to your TV. Sony defines ps3 as the ultimate mulitmedia system and says "HDMI" is the way of the future. Yet, they don't include the cable. And you think THAT's acceptable? by your logic, your own logic, sony is a bigger failure.

It's a success, especially compared to the first Xbox. It has a higher marketshare and it's actually making money. And let's face it, the Xbox brand really needed to start making money. But in terms of units sold it's doing OK, not that great. I think MS are a little disappointed in the unit sales, seeing as they're determined to bury the PS3 and kill off the PlayStation brand. When your console gets outsold by your $600 rival in Halo year, something isn't right. I guess that's why they're going all-out with the price cuts this year.

If you ask me, they should have launched at $300 and cut the price by $50-$70 each year, then Sony would be in serious trouble. Instead they waited 3 years to give it a decent price cut and they've bascially just let Sony decrease the 9 million gap into 4-5 million. There's no way the PS4 will cost over $400 and I doubt Sony will let MS get a significant headstart next time. So I have to wonder what MS's strategy is with the next Xbox. History shows that a company's third console is less successful than it's predecessors. And having only 3 first-party devs isn't a good long term strategy.

So yeah, the 360 is a success. But I think MS will have a tougher time next-gen. Those are my long-winded thoughts on the matter......

HDMI cable-3 pounds new.

Wireless adaptor-50 pounds new.

Not including an HDMI cable isn't that bad since it's so cheap to buy one, when you consider I'd end up paying an extra 90 pounds (including XBL subscription) onto a console costing 160 pounds, you can see why I would find that kind of expensive just to play a game online...
