I've never liked MS either, and part of that was why I would not buy an Xbox... granted the only games I really wanted were on PC soon after their Xbox release.
I could have probably been called a 'Sony fanboy' at one point, especially in the middle of last gen. But even though the 360 seems faulty and many people have had problems, a friend of mine included, it still appears to be the better system... at least in the game library.
I know that the Ps3 will probably be getting some games next year which will greatly improve the system, but I still think the 360 is a better choice--even with the risk of RRoD.
Since consoles depreciate in value over time and have short lifespans for consumers...you really can't call ANY console an "investment".ZIMdoom
I think when people use the term "investment" in video games...it is referring to not a monatary investment, but rather an investment in entertainment--as the entertainment value will increase as more titles and updates come out.
This is why I bought a PS3. I feel that the 360 (just looking at games and not the problems like crappy hardware) is the best system game wise "right now". However, I feel that is all going to change as time moves forward. I am not one that needs instant gratifacation like most impatient "me, me, me, and I" oriented people.
I simply look at what the two are going to offer over the course of the next few years, and I feel Sony is giving me a better "investment". Face it, most third party games are going multilplat and will play and look identical on both systems. So all you are left with is first party. And anyone that even tries to argue that MS has a better first party is not even worth talking to.
The warranty covers unlimited returns for the 3 yrs? Do you receive a refurbished model or a brand new model?
You don't get a return or refurbished model. They repair your system if it is broken. The warranty covers unlimited returns for the 3 yrs? Do you receive a refurbished model or a brand new model?

Agreed completely.
Thirded. RROD is an annoyance, but hopefully the newer systems with the added heatsinks will not break. And the 3 year warranty definitely helps... you don't have to pay anything ;)

Bang! There is your answer right there. I own all three systems. Why? Is it so I have a nest egg in the future? No, it is because I am a gaming nut that loves games. I have a warranty and I do my best to take care of all of my game systems. The games on the 360 are a must have for me and thus so is the system.

Well, when mine RROD'd, I got a different console, not my original fixed. I think it would take a lot longer if they were simply fixing your console and sending it back to you, rather than sending you another one that was either fixed or new...

gonna get this out of the way before anyone else says it..."but why not get a pc since 360 games go there"
3 year warrenty, and with the history of the PS2, I really dont trust the PS3. Xbox problems didn't start popping up for about a year after release.bloodychimp
Unfortunatley, the 3 year warranty does not help with the head aches of having to send it in for repairs time and time again. It sucks wanting to play games but your system is always in the shop.
The PS2 DRE problem is not nearly as numerous as MS latest debacle. Also, anyone that can operate a screw driver could fix the DRE problem with the PS2. The same can not be said with a melted 360.
And the PS3 has shown to have less than a 1% defect rate--which is mind blowingly good. The thing is built like a tank--I don't think you have to worry about it breaking.

I've heard these rumors but no one has ever showed any proof of this. The only way a person could tell anyway would be by the serial number and manu date.[QUOTE="dhjohns"][QUOTE="ZIMdoom"]Since consoles depreciate in value over time and have short lifespans for consumers...you really can't call ANY console an "investment".BillGates_Money

That is a valid point. I don't do PC gaming because I don't feel like messing with PCs. I have no bias of PCs, rather I just like the plug and play option of consoles (although all 3 next gen consoles receive updates now). I work a whole lot and I find my time for gaming is getting less and less as I get older. Another reason I don't want to mess with PCs. Do I miss out on some killer PC apps? Yes, but I have more than enough games to play. My .02. :)
The 360 is about the worst investment of a game console. I have had all the Sony consoles and when I got rid of them they really held a better value. When I go around used game retailers like pawn shops, flea markets game vendors, and game stores the XBOX and used 360's are durt cheap (usually less than $100.00). And many of them don't want any more of these consoles.jimm895
less then 100$ what the hell..how much did neo geo cost over there?

Simple fact Consoles aren't solid investments, and it doesn't really matter if it break if u buy in store warranly u just get another one if one breaks with the store warranty...people usually aren't smart enough tho to buy store warranty tho...LibertySaintHonestly I would have agreed with you 2 yrs ago. But honestly I do not have stacks of hundreds laying around to just buy al the systems and be happy. It is a investment when you dont have that much luxury income.
