i dont realy understand why megaman 9 will have a big file size, thegamedoes not look likt it will take that much space up at all. I know graphicaly it looks slightly different then a true 8 bit game but still. I am not realy complaining since i have an elite but iam just wondering how come it takes over 100MB where most 8 bit games took signiffly less, even 16 bit takes a lot less.

Good point... Suprised noone else has commented on this. I'll do some educated guesses;

1. Bigger file sizes mean you have to buy bigger storage devices.
2. They probably have encoding up the ying-yang trying to prevent copying or altering.
3. The music. It's probably digital, as opposed to analog which a lot of 8 bit games were.
4. Not sure about the PS3, but on 360 there are achievements, and I'm sure those need to be coded into the game code.
5. Is there controller feedback (vibration) in the game?

Can't think of anymore. Nice topic.

1 block is 0.26666666666666 megabytes or so.
Megaman 9 is 66 blocks?
That's just about 17.6 megabytes.

even the wii version which is 1/10 the size of the 360 version, its still way bigger of a file then a normal NES game. I think a NES cartrage had only a few MB

I don't understand where all the megs come from either. Streets of Rage 2 on Xbox Live arcade is 28Mb, it has had no HD makeover its just the original MegaDrive game emulated on the 360, with a few achievments. The original game was only 2Mb in size! Surley the achievments don't take up 26Mb?

And why is PAC-MAN 15Mb? The original Arcade cabinet that dates back to 1980 only had 16k onboard memory!

What, high quality doo doo sound? I doubt it.

This is probably a couple hundred KB on the NES lol.

So it's not like Soul Calibur where the DLC is already on the disc?

Because it's not an actual NES game. It is actually made using current technology.

Probably isn't as compressed either. The music and audio is likely saved in a diffrent format supported by the current gen consoles. You also have new features like leaderboards.

Megaman 9 is actually rendered in full 1080p 3D using the RE5 engine. It uses a variety of cell shaded techniques and blur filters to make it appear to be made of 8-bit 2D sprites, and these things take up space.

I think you're going to find that all XBLA games are bigger than the versions on other consoles to accomodate all the features typically offered on XBLA games. Of course, that's stating the obvious.
