I was contemplating buying a 360 for Mass Effect that's how much I wanted it.
I'm gonna build a new PC though so i'll get it on PC, but still, that game looks amazing. I still have to wait a while though because I don't have the money to spend on a new PC now -_- and wont for atleast another 6 months which is lame.
Because everyone knows that that half of a point difference between the hyped score and the score it actually recieved is all that matters regarding whether it absolutely sucked or is one of the defining games of this generation.
I haven't seen people call it a flop. I thought it got deserving scores and reception from gamers. A great game, but a tad bit too shallow and short to become a true classic ..at least on its own.
Flop =/= a bad game. A flop is just a game that doesnt meet expectations score-wise. Mass Effect was expected to score AAA, it only achieved AA therefore its a flop. Thats not calling it a bad game.

The reason is because it was hyped as like the end-all of RPG's, it was hyped beyond belief by every fanboy in system wars and the 8.5 just shocked everyone.
Basically everybody thought the lowest it could possibly get was a 9. Cows thought the same also if i remember correctly.

Yeah, it was supposed to be a joke. :P since people like to throw around "console exclusive" for a lot of titles, so it only "flopped" as such, since it was AAA on PC.

Then it may not be a very good rule if its still being questioned, it's probably because the word flop can sound harsh depending on the situation.
Maybe it has different meanings, doesn't stop it sounding harsh. :)
Well, I really don't know of anyone who hates on that game. Granted, it was hyped AAA and acored AA. It is, by the rules, a flop. Even so, as I previously said, I don't know of anyone who hates on the game.
It is said to be flop because it was hyped AAA and lemmings created lot of hype of how it is going to be GOTY etc.
I don't like it very much (note : it is different than hating the game ) simply because it had terrible side quests , was short unless you completed the lame side quests and it lacked variety in characters , weapon and quests.
I would also like to point out that it also didn't had much of dialogue or role playing but that really didn't matter that much because I already expected an action rpg
Playing through it right now and loving every second of it. But it didn't meet its hyped score, so it technically is a flop like many have said through this thread.
Scores shmores - M.E. is in my top 5 of best games this gen. and that's saying a Bunch and the table is well set for M.E. 2 to just blow us gamers away.
