I just played a ton of PS3 at a friends house, Warhawk, Killzone 2, Little Big Planet, Metal Gear Solid 4 (Best game ever), and Call of Duty 4. If there is one thing I noticed, it was the awful controls. What's up with this?

To clear it up, I actually like the Dualshock controller. It fights in my hands well, I like the analog placement, and I like the R1 and L1 buttons but I hate the R2 and L2 buttons. Everything else is fine so it's not my hands, don't bother.

Killzone 2: The controls are so sluggish and the response time is ridiculously slow...I don't understand how it could work. The game isn't bad by any means but the controls hamper the experience for me. The game isn't bad but it is overrated and I attribute poor control to being one of the largest reasons why I don't like it as much as most. How can anyone defend these controls...

The Sixaxis sucks too.

Warhawk: What a joke, first of all this game was awful. Third person, poor map selection, it was terrible for a game all about online. The controls also were awful. Shooting was a pain and me and a friend literally ran in a circle for an hour trying to kill eachother. Flying aircraft is like trying to pull a needle out of a haystack. Terrible, awful, six axis control. I can't even begin to describe how awful that was.

Little Big Planet: Why are the control so loose, it feels so awkward. I don't feel like I'm in control sometimes. Shooting is also awful, I was playing the Metal Gear Solid VR Missions and good lord trying to shoot is like trying to shoot a basketball into a soda can. It's impossible to be accurate. Building levels was alright but actually playing the game was frustrating. I like the game a lot though but those damn controls...

I just don't get it, how come they can't get it right? Call of Duty 4 had tight controls, responsive, quick, easy to get the hang of, instantly fun. Metal Gear Solid also controls well despite some streamlining issues.

Seriously though, how can anyone defend the controls of these games. I felt like vomitting especially after doing some of that whirling and twirling in Warhawk.

You can change the controls and Killzone. I thought the controls in LBP and Warhawk were fine too, the only game I think worth complaining about it MGS4. The controls in that game are brutal and almost make the game unplayable

Well KZ2's controls are the same as COD4 when you change them. Sounds like you hate the response issue. I never had an issue with that, I had other issues with that game. LBP has a floaty physics feel so it takes awhile to get used to it. Warhawk is a hard game when you get in the air.

I love the weighted feel of KZ2's controls.

Guess this is what separates the pros from amateurs. I don't think someone who's barely had any experience with the PS3 has any credibility to make any intelligent comment on TEH CONTROLS ZOMG IT'S SO BADDORZ.

I find myself hating the controls of both consoles after I play one console for an extended period of time. Its so hard adjusting to the dualshock 3 after playing the 360, and its so hard playing the 360 controller after playing the ps3. Killzone 2 controls just plain were terrible, however Resistance 2 controls felt great. The main issue is playing a game of COD4 or Halo after playing Killzone 2/Resistance 2 because the trigger buttons! I always get screwed that way! Noes!!!

Is your friend's PS3 connected to the internet, and were you signed into to PSN while playing it? If not, then you're probably playing a non-patched KZ2, which had TERRIBLE controls.

well, seeing as how the reviews stating otherwise, i'm going to have to say, great opinion. There isn't many reviews (if any. i didn't look) that states that this game have awful controls. Now since this is your opinion, i can't explain why this game have bad controls because not only does it have splendid controls to me, but to almost or every reviewer in gaming today who reviewed it. IMHO, KZ2 had worst controls, even though i enjoyed that game as well

Oh, well no wonder you hated the controls. Once you can play the patched KZ2 with its new controls, you're opinion of the game will probably change. IMO, KZ2's controls are perfect now, I don't see how anyone could still hate them after this patch.

I'll check it out again then after he connects his PS3 online. My opinion on Warhawk and LBP still stands though.

Not to mention when it comes to shooters you have access to the superior controler for the PS3.. The Frag FX v2.. A mouse that tricks the system into thinking its a gamepad.

You do know that you can leave the Sixaxis flying controls in the deafault off position in warhawk. Then you just use the left stick to steer, and the right stick to dodge/quick flips

But yes LittleBigPlanets loose controls take time to get used to. It annoyed me the whole time but i liked the game anyways.

KZ2 was a different style of FPS. Just because you couldn't adapt to a different FPS doesn't make the controls poor/sluggish, TC.

You didn't say anything to make me change my opinion. Tell me how Warhawk's controls are good. Tell me how Little Big Planet has tight controls (cause it really doesn't). I need to try KZ2 again though with the 1.27 patch. Pretty lame though how it shipped with such terrible controls.

I think that game just defines lazy development. Nothing about it seemed finished. I actually was looking into buying that game when I finally pick up my own PS3 (instead of borrowing all the time) but now I am never gonna touch it.

Anyway....You mentioned 3 PS3 exclusives with subjectively bad controls.... Yay. Generalizations like yours are not usually worth making threads about. Especially when it's just so....subjective.

[QUOTE="Toriko42"] I tried anything and it was still terrible. Quick flips almost exploded my heart. Toriko42

You suck at it. There, I said it.

I think that game just defines lazy development. Nothing about it seemed finished. I actually was looking into buying that game when I finally pick up my own PS3 (instead of borrowing all the time) but now I am never gonna touch it.

Some games, have steep learning curves. That's just how it is.

P.S. I'm also slightly annoyed that you're bashing my 2nd favorite and most played of this generation. :? ;)

Killzone 2: High-Precision Controls. That's the end of that petty banter. Alternate Controls 2 are the closest controls to CoD... I think... And Sixaxis sucks, too? IT'S BARELY EVEN USED!!! Warhawk: Wait, is there not enough aim assist? First of all, DON'T USE THE FREAKIN SIXAXIS CONTROL! It's that easy, dude. And use pro-flight if you want accurate flight sim controls. LBP: I don't understand what you're complaining about. I just don't think you looked into it enough. Or gave it much of a chance.

I love the weighted feel of KZ2's controls.

Guess this is what separates the pros from amateurs. I don't think someone who's barely had any experience with the PS3 has any credibility to make any intelligent comment on TEH CONTROLS ZOMG IT'S SO BADDORZ.

Toriko: heres your answer...even so, it would be a waste of time trying to explain why you dont like LBP and Warhawk controls, you cant handle them

If you wanna talk about rly bad controls...i tell you something...try playing Street Fighter games in both systems, and we will se how you can preform a freakin "shoryuken" in xbox360... those are significant things...every street fighter old school gamer would tell you about those controls

LBP is a fun game and the building tools work well but the platforming is really imprecise. Also there are some moments where the controls really just get awful. The Metal Gear Solid VR levels for instance. Trying to shoot is awful, it's just awful. Aiming is a pain and at times it feels like you're not even in control of your character.

I use an arcade stick for Street Fighter so I wouldn't know but I will hand it to you, PS3 is far better for fighters. Virtua Fighter 5 on the PS3 with my friend is dope and so is Soul Calibur though I will say it's not as bad as people say it is playing it on the 360. It's a bit less imprecise but it's alright. PS3 though is superior for fighting.

KZ2, the controls are ment to be like that, add in the 1.27 update that removes the deadzone and IMO it has some of the best feeling gunplay i've felt on a console in ages. Warhawk bad controls?, how on earth anyone can think that is beyond me, i know everyone has an opinion but to say warhawk has bad controls is just LOL, it's fluid and easy and the pro mode flight setup is just pure win, try turning off noob flight mode :D. LBP, the only problem is the jumping (it's slighty floaty) BUT that's due to the physics system and it's very easy to get used to.

I still don't know what you guys want. They allowed you to have no more weighted controls. They have a lot of alternate controller lay-outs. You can toggle zoom/crouch hold... What DO you want? Direct rip-offs now?

Thing is, Killzone 2 and LBP are good games, LBP is actually an excellent game and one of my favorites of 2008. Warhawk was one of my biggest disappointments though, I was hyped for Battlefield-esque combat on the PS3, I guess not. I'll wait to see how MAG turns out.

They DID fix them. I don't understand how anyone could have complaints about them now, because with high precision, they're basically the same as CoD4.

"Battlefield-esque combat" on the PS3 is Battlefield: Bad Company. :P

Really? If you're referring to platforming when you say "how he jumps", the platforming in Uncharted was EXTREMELY precise. Explain?
