Why has the PC dominated this kind of game?
The closest thing that the consoles have is Sim City Creator on the Wii, and that got TERRIBLE reviews!

I still think Sim City SNES is the best one though... How come they haven't tried to do anything like it since then?its just one of those generes thats far too removed from the average console game to ever be succesfull there.

Funny you should ask. I have been playing nothing but PS1 games the last two weeks and Sim City 2000 is one of the ones I am playing. I have a huge city going too. I don't miss out because I have a PC, but it would be nice to get Sim City for +expansions on the consoles. I still need to pick Sim City 4 up for PC myself. Why has the PC dominated this kind of game?

Sim City 2000 works fine for me. I have it for PS1. Besides, you can use a K/M for PS3.Because I don't even want to think about how youd play that kind of game with a controller.
I wouldn't work well. at all.

Ya and like what? only 1 game supports it? Seriously nothing is going to happen with the K/M for the PS3.

Sadly, you clearly missed my point.because they are complex games based around peaceful slow development, without much if any violence. Ie..they're not suited for tastes of console gamers much. So aside from ocassional rare exception (like Anno on Wii) nobody even tries. They're just not selling well. The audience for this genre is on PC.

As much as this makes out console gamers to have short attention-spans...its somewhat true. I have PC gaming friends and I have console gaming friends. One crowd loves it the other not so much.
To wit, sales of the Sim City series seem to have flagged off in recent iterations. As for why not on consoles, the series was built from the ground up to use a mouse, and recent iterations reinforce this with a need for a finer touch.because they are quite boring and shouldn't even exist to begin with

Strategy games on console have always phailed, and always will. See every attempt at porting strategy to the console ever.

So would the lack of this sub-genre in the RTS genre in the latest time on the PC also state that PC gamers don't want this type of games either?
This sub-genre is far from healthy on any system.
this is a pretty easy answer, god games like the sims just like rts games are always going to be better played with a keyboard and mouse, so yeah >_>

"The only negative thing to say about this game is that there's no multiplayer mode. Apart from that I'm sure that you will spend a lot of hours playing this title"

"By means of a good control system, a profound gameplay, and a good looking presentation, the game proves to be a perfect example of how well the RTS-genre can work on the Wii. "

"Although this is a scaled down version of the Anno experience we've come to know on the PC it still has enough depth to captivate us through for hours with it's appealing blend of intuitive controls and charming graphics. The controls are well adapted to the unique control scheme of the Wii and the presentation does a god job of conveying all that's going on at any given time. If you're in the mood for a fun and well made strategic experience, this is the game for you."

"Pleasant visuals, very accessible and likeable. The translation of the RTS and economy sim from the PC to the console has been done very well."

" The game is very good and the learning curve exellent, as you're gradually given control over managing large cities, and even though the game is more forgiving than fans of the series are used to, the challange and red thread of the game will keep you playing for hours. with Dawn of Discovery, Ubisoft and Keen games have created a recommendable strategy game and a great introduction to the Anno universe."

"Positively smooth economy-sim/RTS with a beautifully told campaign and a high risk of addiction with the "continous play" mode."

"Anno looks great. Yes it's cartooney, but the art fits the tone perfectly, and the production values are excellent. The buildings are well animated and colourful, the sound effects are appropriately pleasant and the voice acting is, actually, well executed, if a tad cheesy. In short, bravo Keen. Bravo.
While the story mode only lasts about 10 hours or so, depending on the difficulty level, continuous play mode could theoretically keep you going forever. Here the shackles are off from the get go. Anno's got a strange, inoffensive charm to it that makes it a pleasure to play, almost therapeutic. In fact, the only thing that prevents it from getting a truly great score is the lack of multiplayer."

"Blue Byte managed to wrap the typical feeling of the series into a new, easily accessible format without removing the essence and complexity. The title is easily recommendable to those new to the series - but even veterans of the PC successors will be able to enjoy it, as long as they can accept the new cartooney look."

"I am not a fan of console strategy games, but Blue Byte and Keen Games surprised me. "Dawn of Discovery" on the Wii is great fun with it's interesting story and excellent voice work. A simple port of Anno 1404 would've been the wrong way - Instead, they developed an independant game from the ground up. One that doesn't need to hide in the shadows of his brothers."

"Great gameplay combined with simple, spot-on controls, an engaging story and the popular "never ending" game mode. For fans of strategy titles, this is a definite must-buy title. Gamers that want deep, complex but easily accessible titles should risk a look or to. With "Dawn of Discovery", Ubisoft delivers a quality RTS game which is not only worthy of the Anno-franchise name, but does an excellent job at introducing new players to the popular series."

"Dawn of Discovery" has made an excellent debut on the wii. Presentation, content, and especially the controls, all executed brilliantly. The necessary changes for making this work smooth and fast have all been done.
"Dawn of Discovery" is one of the games you plan to play for half an hour, and after what feels like a moment later you're way past midnight.

IGN UK
"If we had to find fault here, it would be the lack of real challenge, Story Mode focussed more on arming you with knowledge than punishing your errors. That's saved for the free-form Continuous Play mode, where all possible upgrade paths are available from the start and you're left to your own devices in terms of expanding your populace.
Even the entirely pointer-driven interface is a delight with clear, concise menus and a control system that simplifies everything down to two buttons. Everything from object interaction and construction uses a combination of clicking and dragging, making for an incredibly accessible package."

Dawn of Discovery is available in Europe, and out in the US on June 17.

"big long cut outs from various reviews"Lothenoncan you please explain to me what the point of all of that was?
it's like a game like a RTS on consoles. it will be made bad on consoles. the only sim city game that i know of was on the super nintendo. it had mario characters, mario would be saying bowser is taking over the city.xscott1018That was one fun part about the SNES port of the game--featuring Bowser as the Monster Attack disaster.

That games like Sim City works really good on a console.
Anno proves that.

Well yeah you have to simplify the controls and tweak the gameplay but the core game can easily work on consoles as some games have already proved.
The problem isn't really if the games can work on consoles or not the problem is that this sub-genre is almost dead on any system.
I'm a huge strategy fan and played the majority of the good ones for the last 12-15 years and it makes me sad when I think about the state of strategy games right now.
there is a sim city , for the wii its called sim city creater , ,duh , ,
the one game i havent seen in a long long time is top gear

och well...we'll see how Anno does on Wii, it's the biggest property the genre has, if this doesn't move insane numbers than nothing will.
