LittleBigPlanet sold 2.25million copies (give or take a little).... either way, that's very impressive to me. It was probably a low budget game and I cannot recall ever seeing a commercial for it.

How did LBP sell so many copies??? Was it all the great reviews? The internet hype? Because it had little competition with other platformers on Ps3? Advertising/marketing???

I really cant put my finger on this one. I dont remember seeing any ads for this game at all when it came out.

I was just asking my Beachhead and SnakeEyes GI Joe figures when I took a bath earlier today. It's strange to see LBP sell in such HIGH numbers, and I know strange.

That's what I'm trying to figure out as well, I didn't think it would sell past a million or 2. That surprised me.

I had a big ad campaign from what I heard. It was generally word of mouth and advertisements me thinks. It was hardly low budget though. Low budget is like Carnival Games, not a Sony published exclusive.

It's a good game and word of mouth for it would have been a strong factor. In the gen with friends lists and such you can always see the games your friends are playing and ask if it's any good or not.

I wish it had more marketing over here in the UK. There was an ad for it, but it only played very infrequently.

Actually, it had a lot of marketing. Whenever one of the LBP commercials went on, the responses from my family/friends was usually positive also. The women that saw it generally said that it was "cute" and looked "fun" while the guys said it looked "fun" and "creative".

It had an ad campaign. That is not even arguable, it was pretty big. As for its sales, all things considered it sold about what I thought it would.

As did I. Sackboy is an adorable character, I really can't argue that. Its a nice thing to look at opposed to all the extreme violence burly characters I'm use to seeing lol.

I loved RAW and DELIRIOUS, but I don't remember a thing. It's been over a decade, way to long. Thanks for the reminder, I will have put those on my queue. I'll throw down some Prior too, for good measure. :)

I saw a few brief commercials on it but I really don't know. It's a fine game, and it's accessable for everyone if you know what I meen... it's E rated so I guess the younger ones who aren't allowed to play bloody games could play this one? Idk really.

Sadly only Raw is available for instant viewing to stream thru your 360 Netflix ...so you will have to wait for snail mail for Delirious which is by far the better of the 2. Classics never die. :)

I didn't realize LBP was selling so well, I remember it got kind've a slow start. So that's good to see. It's really a great game. It's one of the few when I have nothing else to play I can still go back too. In my opinion not enough games have really good coop. Little Big Planet is one of the few exceptions.

it was in a lot of comics, mtv backgrounds, and gamer shows. also it is a game targeted towards "the family" which means little kids and girls. gs forums are typically for gamers so the grouping is different then the demographic.

I was actually dissapointed in the sales. I thought LBP would be the game that starts a PS3 revolution and gets the mainstream public to buy ps3s. The game is accessible, it's deep, it's easy on the eyes, but i guess it's just hard for the mainstream to understand what it is all about.

It was highly praised when it came out. It was the first new game I bought for my Ps3 when I purchased it a month ago. Its a very good game and well worth your dollar.

Oh it's good sales but the hype that LBP was getting and the rave reviews, you would think that LBP would be the next WiiSports and sell 5 million copies and start moving ps3s.

low budget XD

It did well becuase the developers are obviously passionate about the game, and it shows.

And its one of those games where every time you play your amazed by what people have created with what seems to be simple tools...

Only internet fanboys think every game has to sell that much to be considered a success. One million is more than enough. Two million is profit and then some. Wii Sports came with the system in America. That doesn't count. And you can't compare any game to what you see selling on the Wii. Those Wii titles stand alone in their ridiculous sales numbers. PS3 games don't have to match them to be profitable.

Seeing as this one "had legs" as it were, I would imagine that word of mouth had a lot to do with this one. I know I certainly talked it up to a lot of people, especially the user-created content aspect.

When it came out I couldn't even find a PS3 picture without sackboy attached to it.

Let's not forget it's very appealing to casuals.

Yeah, well im in the Uk and upon release i was bombarded with LBP advertisements. It's a Sony backed exclusive, 1 million sales would be considered poor.

LBP ended up performing higher than expected. I'm glad because I like the concept of games like LBP and ModNation Racers.

Is it just me or did people have horribly low expectations for this game?I'm not the biggest fan ofthe game (its flawed as a platformer but still a good game over all) but even I knew this game was going to sell over 2 million. Why exactly the low confidence in this people?

really? i thought alot of people had high expectations... which is why there were threads about its low inital sales
