When the PC industry is finally realzing that bigger is not better and that low-power, efficient, slim-profile machines are the future, Microsoft and Sony are continuing to make bulky, ugly, power-hungry console hardware.

When will they stop?  How many more freaking polygons are they going to shove down our throats?  I seriously thought this stupid polygon war was over with PS3/360 and was VERY surprised to see that they are still at it.  Have they learned nothing from digital camera makers and their useless megapixels?  Will Microsoft and Sony EVER learn that it's about the quality and innovation in gameplay and not texture detail or polygon count?

1) How the hell is a PS4 big and bulky and consumes too much power? they are both minuscule compared to PCs if similar power. 2) Comparing Polygons to Megapixel cameras..... You sire are a moron.

Not that your incredibly low IQ deserves a dignified response, but that's an absolutely fair comparison.  Shoving more data (i.e. detail) on a disc does not equal a better product.  You can make a breakthrough game with innovative gameplay, package it in a 15MB file, and have it run in 320x240, and it will still be better than 95% of all Xbox games out there.

First off, if its a gap in my knowledge on the subject that is NOT I.Q related. Second, you are talking absolute s*it as while yes innovation and gameplay are the core of a game, graphics and immersion are also very important for different styles of games to be successful, up-to-date graphics create a sense of beleif and immersion, given that quite a few video games are meant to "pull you in" its a fair assessment. But I find a pokemon avatar quite ironic. you've been playing the same s(it for 10+ years with slightly better graphics and some colour.

Yeah, immersion.  Like the Madden/FIFA games with photorealistic players with scary zombie eyes and robotic movements?

Don't you understand?  The more realistic a developer tries to make the game, the deeper the hole it's digging, because people will still spot unrealistic parts and complain, except each generation realism is more and more difficult to accomplish.  A "realistic" game is still not going to be as good as live action footage with real actors, whereas a cartoonish game like the Wind Waker automatically wins, because it looks exactly like the cartoon.

Nice preference, but I disliked wind waker's art style the most out of any of the zelda games. so what now? Fifa is a poor example. I would give BAttlefield 4 as a decent example of Immersion through graphics.... especially in multiplayer. but that pokemon... I hear they actually move back n fore now ... incredible stuff, cartoon is ALWAYS the way to go

Speak for the xbox one,the PS4 is the size of the current slim, while having an internal PSU and a big APU,with probably 16 memory chips on board.

The xbox one is far bigger and doesn't even have an internal PSU.

And the slim PS3 is a still HUGE console.  There is no reason for consoles to be bigger than an ultrabook, but probably more like Apple TV or Ouya.

Computing is moving towards miniaturization, not toward working on mainframes.  Within a couple years most TVs will be smart TVs with video playback included, and no one's going to want to have these ugly devices in their living room.

Well, that's a hell of a low threshold, considering the PS3 is one of the uglier and least efficient consoles in recent memory.

NO, Microsoft missed the memo Dont try and drag Sony's name into it. The PS4 with its sepcs at 400$ is simply awesome The PS4 is a highly specialised and wholey EFFICIENT gaming console The PS4 is easier to devolope for and hits its peak performances much easier and flawlessly So yeah, Sony obviously did get get the memo on how to hit all the right notes.... Bottom line, the PS4 is 50% more powerful 100$ cheaper then an xbone Plus the design of the PS4 is so sexy...... Sony>>>>>>>>>>Microsoft all day every day Plus NO playstation has ever had issues as wide spread as PROD *cough cough* Microlimpd!ck needs to get the memo Sony is doing everything right and im getting a PS4 day one son On the other hand you wont be able to pay me to play an xbone, let alone buy one. Xbone is an under powered, over priced, anti consuner piece of shit box/spy box/cable box PS4 is an actual gaming console

Hmm, op went in a different direction with this than I expected. I thought it was gonna be about how the new consoles are underpowered... cuz they are. I never expected them to compete with high-end PC cards in raw specs cuz those cards are so expensive. But I did think they'd deliver on the high side of mid-range PC cards, around 2.5 tflops. Instead PS4 is on the low end of mid-range and Xbox One is on the high end of entry level.

Why do you care what it looks like? What they do is what's important. What the boxes looked like was the least important thing to me. Can be shaped like dog poo if the innards are awesome.

You can consider whats in the PS4 weak all you want, but a PC with similar performance to a PS4 will cost you a ton more then 400$ Im saying for the price the PS4 is the best option if you want good power too. The xbone has a MUCH WEAKER GPU then the PS4 GPU, and has shit DDR3 ram, while the PS4 has GDDR5 RAM Strictly comparing the PS4 and xbone, the PS4 is more high end, while the xbone is just plain old LOW END no matter which way you cut it When he said the xbone was high end "entry level" he was flat out wrong and you know it. Hmm, you might have misinterpreted what I meant. I said Xbox One is low end but on the high side of low end. Additionally I said that PS4 is mid-level but on the low side of mid-level. That equates to me saying PS4 is more powerful than Xbox One... but both are weaker than they should be, especially considering the current gen started 8 years ago. These systems should have Radeon 7870-like specs for their GPUs imo. But nether do. PS4 is 75% of the 7870's (A 7870 is a TRUE mid-level card. PS4's capabilities are more in line with a 7850, a card kinda teetering between low-end and mid-level. Hence why I said PS4 is mid-level but on the low end of mid-level) ability and Xbox One is 50% of it.

[QUOTE="teambadboy"][QUOTE="superclocked"][QUOTE="teambadboy"] LOL are you delusional If anything the PS4 is like a mixture of mid-end to high-end settings, and it only costs 400$ While the xbox one is LOW end settings and costs 500$ lmao A PC that has similar performance to a PS4 will cost a ton of money too So the PS4 is the best option all around. Powerful and affordable etc

The PS4 is not a mix of mid and high end parts. Both consoles use weak processors and low end GPU's....

You should have responded to his post. Wickerman777 is a known delusional xbot, just an FYI for you

The XBox One GPU is only 33% weaker than the PS4 GPU.. And DDR3 RAM actually responds much quicker than GDDR5, it just can't move as much data per second. And since the XB1 has move engines with custom LZ compression/decompression hardware, the XBox One doesn't need as much throughput through the RAM. The XBox One RAM setup is actually better. It will just be a little harder for devs to utilize. The move engines and 32MB of L4 cache also perform texture tiling without using GPU resources, unlike the PS4. 32MB L4 Cache + Move Engines w/ LZ compression/decompression + free texture tiling + low latency DDR3 > GDDR5

Here's a PS4 sitting next to a PS3 (launch version). It ain't as big as you think it is.

Screw that. There's an even easier way: PC: $800 PS4: $400 PS+ for 8 years: $400 There's no way that this generation will be any shorter than the previous one. Graphics and hardware improvements have slowed down significantly. Plus, PC games are always cheaper. (at launch, and especially during sales)
