How did the industry change so much

I remember seeing commercials like this when I was a kid. And this. and lastly, this. How did we go from commercials like that, that Actually gave you reasons to buy it. Braging about more accurate controls, cheaper games, better graphics, console design, things like that.

Now we have comercials like this. 

What happened? I know that's just sony, but What about this number?

Almost All modern commercials have one point, or could be compressed into " Hey! Buy a 360/PS3/Wii! Xtreme Fun!"

That's how things were in the 80s. It wasn't considered improper to call out your opponents in your product adds back then.

The industry hasnt changed so much, its advertising and advertising techniques that have changed with the changes in social norms.

The same way life has changed so much....mostly technology and money the reason for those commercials i believe, they look cheap and to the point.

I guess My main point is that if you look at the older comericials, Advertisers seemed to veiw us as Smarter. Like back then, the concept was" if you tell them the Pro's of your system, and the cons of the others, they'll put it together and buy one" But now it seems like" Buy it. Just do it."

I guess My main point is that if you look at the older comericials, Advertisers seemed to veiw us as Smarter. I guess back then, the business had more faith in the average intelligence of said consumer. That faith has vanished in the last decade, and I can sort of understand...Â
