I remember when PC gaming was accused being "awkward" and "user-unfriendly" because you have to put disc into your drive and wait till it installs your game.

Exactly that now is happening to PlayStation 3, which means the good ol' plug'n'play system is probably forever gone with this generation.

So, my question to all Cows is:

How do you feel regarding installs?

It really doesn't bother me much... I'm not going to rip my hair out in agony just for waiting 5 minutes not to play a game.

Seriously, I think the only people who complain about the installs are the people who don't actually own PS3s...

Wow what a pointless thread. Who cares as long as the game is good? PS3 RULES OK!

Well it's good since it speeds up the load times and such, but it's slowly eating up the HDD, then again the installs have nothing to do with game saves so when ever i need to play a certain game again ill just re-install it and pick up where i left off if i ever need to delete something..

ofcourse, have you ever seen a sheep complaining about the lack of the Wii's library, or a lemming complaining about the XBL fee?? fanboys bash other fanboy's consoles.

Puts less strain on the bluray lens.

It's done once for each game and that's it.

It aint harmful for sure.

Right.

So if you own a gaming PC besides your PS3, do you still hate installs on your PC?

Actually when i got MGS4 it installed for Act 1, then installed again for Act2 i have not got any further yet so i dnt know whether it will continue this throughout each act however it has installed twice so far.

I think it's a very good idea to keep games playing more effectively. This is why I think the 360 getting this option soon will be very helpful.

It doesn't really bother me, if I can wait X amount of time for a game I can wait another 10 minutes. I've gotten used to it really, it's not like I just sit there and watch it install, I usually do a small errand that needed doing. And if it improves performance then im all for it.

The HDD is there to be used by devs too the way I see it so I don't really mind the installation especially if its a game I like, for example MGS4. Upgrading HDD is a simple procedure with PS3 anyway. The games end up having fewer load times and other benefits with installation, so I don't really care. Optional is better though in my opinion.

Doesn't bother me too much. I would prefer it not to be there or 100% optional, but, meh.

I don't mind disc swapping either if it's in an RPG. As soon as disc swapping is present on a game other than an RPG, it is so lame.

Well, IMO, it's a pain at the moment. Since I started with the 360 first, I'm so impatient with the installs. I even noticed that I have to install demos as well. Maybe it's because I'm not really into my PS3 yet because I just got it and only have 1 game for it at the moment, but as of late, it makes me a little impatient...

But I have noticed that the games have little to no load times. :)

I don't mind it, but some games do take up a lot of space sometimes.
