I have a bit of mixed feelings when it comes to DLC. I mean take fallout 3 for instance, they released 3 downlodable expansions to the game which were ten bucks each. If you take the base price and then add the 30$ you now spent 90$ for that game for it to finally be complete.

Dont get me wrong Fallout 3 is one of my favorite games now, but if they would of taken a bit more time and then added all of the content orginally, we would of paid 60$ for all of it.

I just have that feeling that developers will eventually get to the point where they dont finish games on purpose so that they can release a DLC later for more money.

Like I said I paid for all 3 expansion mainly cuz I just love this game, but the game alone without the expansions felt really short to me. I thinkDLC is a great thing if its not used to slack on game development and try to milk money out of us. If they game feels complete and worth the 60 bucks then sweet, then DLC is just an added bonus. But if the game feels weak and unfinished and DLC is needed to enjoy the full game that just sucks.

Though i'd share some idea, what do the rest of you think? Thanks foryou time :)

I love DLC. It gives longevity to some of my favorite games. It gives me a reason to go back to a game that I may not have gone back to otherwise. As long as I don't feel that it is overpriced I think it is awesome.

I have mixed feelings aboutdlc I did buy the Killzone 2 map packs to prolong my online battlesbut I have no idea if that was alreadysupposed to be in the original version and they took it out to sell it and make a profit.

that's my only beef with dlc how do we know developers don't take out the dlc off the original game just to get $5 or $7 off of us after they already got $60.

the makers of Tomb Raider admitted they did this.

I enjoy my DLC (PS1 classics, Noby Noby Boy, Megaman 9)

While a lot of DLC games range from classics to spin-offs to "those little charming" games, I do enjoy them and they don't cost more than $10-$20 at the most.

DLC is great as long as its not abused. the RE5 multiplayer mode for instance, no chance in hell i would buy that when it should have been in the game at launch. but the GeOW2 all fronts pack is a great example of DLC done right

i realy like dlc it lots of times makes me take an old game which i havent played in months off the self to play again. also dlc like maps and characters enchance the games experience. I dont like dlc that was surposed to be relesed when th game was relseaed you can usualy tell this, eather the file size will be way too small, or it will be relesed very close to the games release

The type of DLC that is small and seems they took out to make money, then that is the DLC that I don't support. However with the Fallout 3 DLC, sofar they been more or less worth the price. The first one seems alittle bit iffy, but the 3rd one was great. That type of DLC could help make the game longer.

It depends. If it's DLC like Lost and the Damned, where it adds on to an already awesome game, then I'm all for it. But if the DLC literally could've been in the game, but the Devs held it back to make an extra buck, then yeah, I call that milkage.

Yeah I think halo 3's map packs are fine, I mean they came out long enough after the actual game so that i knew the werent included with the original release.

It's worth it to some, but not to others.

Personally I don't mind DLC if it is a good addition to the game, for a reasonable price.

DLC sucks, majority of DLC is game content which is held back so it can be released later so companies can make extra bucks

Whoa, did you just say that Fallout 3 was a short game without the DLC? I don't think you're playing the game correctly if you're saying it's short. If you just blew through the game as quickly as possible without doing sidemissions... why are you interested in buying more? I don't have ANY issue with ANY DLC as long as the game that I purchase feels complete. DLC is pure bonus imo. It's never necessary to enjoy the game. I think people who complain about DLC are compulsive spenders. They feel that because something is being sold, they must purchase it. There are no options. It's buy or die. People complain that alternate costumes were sold for SF4. I don't know. Like every 2D fighter i've ever played only comes with one costume set. You can change the colors (just like in SF) but it's only one costume. People were going into a berserker barrage and acting as if the balance for Chun-Li is totally broken unless you can play as her in a sequin dress. LOL, for real? DLC like that has no bearing on anything. It's stupid stuff that has like zero impact on the actual game. I don't have any issue with that. Tales of Vesperia lets you buy experience points to upgrade. I don't have an issue with this. It's not like it's ridiculously hard to upgrade without purchasing this. I don't see this as being any different than someone buying a game genie or buying a magazine for cheat codes. It has zero impact on the game. You can never use any of this stuff and the game is equally as fun. It's just giving you more options if you want to pay for them. When I buy a $60 game and the last level stops in the middle and it's like, "buy the last stage for 800 MS points", that's when I'll start complaining about DLC. Everything else just sounds like compulsive spenders whining because they are compulsive spenders or 12 years olds crying because $5 seems like some epic amount of money that they'll never be able to come up with.

I believe dlc is hurting the gaming industry tremendously. It is proving to developers that it is ok to release a 8-10 hour long game with a slapped on multiplayer for full market price, and millking the consumer to buy 5-10 dollar extra content to bring more replay value. I dont blame developers for doing it though, because it is proving to be profitable. There is without a doubt though, that the value you get in a game has dropped quite a bit this gen because of things like dlc

ther are some good DLC like Shivering isles , Lost damned and ther are some bad like extra costumes for SF IV why should we pay 15$ to get costums that are on disk or same with RE 5 versus and SC IV

If we buy a game we should have access to everything that is on the disk

With all of the hard work that goes into these games I really don't mind paying extra for DLC after a game has already been released. I like supporting the companies that bring these fantastic games into my life. Even if it feels half-assed. Games are taking so long to develop now that it only makes sense to release the other features later, so that gamers don't have to wait as long as they would of had to if the DLC was included in the first place. Without DLC, many of the features you would've gotten from DLC get the axe because of deadlines with development. Honestly I think DLC has been the most interesting thing to happen to consoles since online games were possible on them.

As long as it's good and priced fairly, I love it. If it buggy and it breaks your game (Fallout 3) then it sucks.

Mixed reactions. Really liked Valkyria Chronicles DLC but they were expensive. - OK/good. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: MLAAK, on the otherhand, suffered when a DLC pack should be included in the first place. - Bad.

I do think DLC which extends the story after it was finished or add a new story (like NWN 2 : MoW or GTA IV : L&D) are good enough, rest are, pretty much meh

Too many games now are leaving out content so that you have to buy it seperately. Some even already have the content on the disc, and you just need to pay to unlock it. That kind of crap needs to stop.

I also don't like how it's being used to fix glitches that should have been caught in development. It should never be acceptable for developers to release glitchy games, and then only patch them after people start complaining.

Buying things that should have been included in the original release? Its a complete ripoff. Hurray, there is multiplayer for RE5, its even there on the disc, but you have too pay to access it...

It is complete garbage... Well DLC for Guitar Heo games is actully something I can stand, considering the music library is limited by the cost of earning the rights too use the songs in the game and not the 5 minutes it takes to program it. Still fairly overpriced though, but its atleast an understandable DLC. (Can't include 5000 songs in a game considering the game would have to cost hundreads of dollars.)

GOOD DLC is so worth it, stuff like Lost and Damned, and ALL of the Fallout 3 DLCs (which I've purchased :P).

Broken DLC, like the superstar pack 2 for Smackdown vs Raw 2009, which didn't even have music or titantrons for more than half the wrestlers it adds, is crap, and a total waste of money.

But overall, DLC that adds stuff, like new quests, locations, characters, etc is good, DLC that just adds alternative costumes that don't even play out during video sequences and don't change the game at all (LOOKING AT YOU STAR WARS FORCE UNLEASHED), arecrap.

I loved Fallout 3 more than most, but their DLC was a mess. So much in fact, that I have pretty much pegged Bethesda as a company to avoid until they hire some decent programmers. Broken Steel is probably the most aptly named piece of software ever and their really weak dodge blaming MS for the problems of BS is pretty pathetic. Games should not be released in the condition that any of the 3 DLC packs were released. It's just poor business. Fallout 3 came out in October and there are still lots of people that can't play it properly.

I have no real problem with it. Unless they are trying to rip you off or soemthing like that. What I have a problem with is certain exclusive DLC. If its exclusive DLC like sidemission or an enitrely different campaign from the story then im ok with it,but if its something that continues the story then thats a BIG NO NO. Perfect example the new Fallout DLC broken steel. It makes people who bought the PS3 version feel like they didint get the real ending. Instead they get a HUGE AND I MEAN HUGE MIDDLE FINGER. I mean shoudlint they have informed the people from the very start that the DLC will continue the end game with the same character. I mean its like what was the point of making the PS3 version. They basicly gave the PS3 buyers a half finished game.

DLC is basically being used as a way to juice customers out of more cash. Personally I like Valve's approach to DLC where they produce updates, and new content to suppliment further sales of the original title. This works well on PC titles which don't have a used market, but what about consoles?

It's a double edged sword to me: on one hand, it freshens up the core experience with added missions, etc. And on the other, it can be a little ridiculous (alternate attire, unlock everything in the game for a few bucks...) But for the most part, I've never played a game that twisted my arm to buy the added bonuses.

Agreed. It's nice to have some DLC a couple of months after a games release, but it should be something worthwhile. Some examples of good DLC include GTAIV L&D and FO3 broken steel. Unfortunately though, the majority of DLC these days are just overpriced, small content that should have been released with the game.

I really hate paying $10 for 3 maps. $5 for a versus mode is just insane and there is no way in heaven or hell I would pay money to buy a bunch of costumes and skins

There's some good dlc and I'm all for new content for my games as long as it's justifiable paying for it and better yet when it's free.

But some dlc is just plain ridiculous and a horrible trend among some devs. like making you purchase in game unlockables that used to be free such as new costumes or a weapon.

Should be free,if is free on PC,it can be free on consoles too.McdonaIdsGuy

Not all DLC on PC is free.

I don't really care about that sort of thing.

The only good DLC is free DLC, like Left 4 Dead.

Expansions are fine, because they usually add tons of extra content.

But map packs? Give me a break. We've been getting free map packs on PC for ages. I don't know why they need to charge for this stuff now just because it's on consoles. Bethesda is pretty much the only multiplat dev that has charged for DLC on PC. Was there any others? Oh there was The Maw, but the game is only 10 bucks on Steam anyway, and the DLC is 1.25 a piece. So that's not really a big deal.

But 10 bucks for a map pack or 5 bucks for horse armor? Ridiculous.
