I've seen people's sigs saying "No room for fanboyism" as if the fact that they own all three systems denounces any claims that they are fanboys. Why is it like this?

Four, not three.

As for your question as to why someone that owns all systmes isn't a fanboy/fangirl, while it isn't necessarily true, they did care about it enough to buy and play them so they do have some credibility regardless of bias, much more than what can be said for most people.

It isn't. They're trying to justify that they spend way too much money on gaming by claiming they're on a higher plane than people who don't. "Buyer's Remorse." ;)

I think people who own more systems are less likely to be fanboys because they have supported another company's system, but it doesnt mean they arent fanboys. It basically just makes them less bias because they actually own more than just one console. I own a 360 and ps3 and i lean heavily toward my 360, but i still enjoy some games on my ps3. I dont own all 3 though because i refuse to buy a gaming console that isnt actually for gamers, aka the wii.

lets make this simple, everyone here has a certain bias to a console no matter how long youve been gaming, even you the tc will always have a certain amount of bias, its not something you can really change, its the ones who really stand out and blatantley bash consoles or pcs who are called fanboys, if we wanted to we could call everyone who posts here a fanboy because everyone has some bias. usually (not all the times) the people who truthfully do own all the consoles will not hate on a particular console, but of course there are acceptions to that statement

It does and it doesn't. Some people have all three because they truly find something appealing and good about all three systems, and therefore are not fanboys. For some, however, they have all three for some reason or another, yet feel the need to place one of their systems on a ridiculously highpedestal. In my opinion there is a fine line between bias and fanboyism, and some of these people clearly cross that line.

You can own all or multiple systems and still have traits of a fanboy, it simply mean you have more cash at hand and easier shot at poking at the holes of systems. I seen a quite a few people who do that. Nothing wrong is pointing out the flaws of one own system, but directly punching at the wounds is another thing.

Yeah it has nothing to do with the fact that they might want to play games on other systems. Why in the hell would they want to do that? It's so much better having an uninformed opinion on a console you don't own. Who needs that when you can be critical of things you never experienced?

I own all 4 (including PC) and Wii at the moment is my least favorite. Am I a fanboy? No. Do I have a preference at the moment? Yes. However, at least I can admit that each system has its quality titles and pluses. I can also freely admit that my system of choice at the moment has its drawbacks, aka. the PS3. Many times if someone owns only one, they feel the need to defend that one system so strongly that they become a fanboy. Those of us who own all four are less likely to feel that need.

Ya thats definately something there, you can have prefererence but it doesn't mean it will cloud your overall judgement on each and every system. "I enjoy this the one most, but I can respect all the good that comes from all the others, and I know all the flaws with each system."

I own all 4 next gen systems (PC/PS3/X360/Wii) and that doesnt stop anyone from being a fanboy. Now, i personally believe that im not a fanboy, but I tend to have more of a bias towards Sony. Dont get me wrong, I like what MS is doing this gen, and i certainly luv all the Wii first party games, but Sony has the games that I like the most (GoW, TMB, R&C, Jak, TeamIco Games just to name a few). So having all 4 systems doesnt stop one from being a fanboy, but at the same time, people should not mistake bias for fanboyism.

Yeah, even though I don't own all three at the moment it still doesn't drive me to fanboyism in the real world but on SW I'll gladly have a strong bias towards PS3 and PC.

Because they basically have the full right to criticise the system seeing as how they own them all. Not to say you don't have the right to criticise a system you dont own, it's just that you have a better overall underdstanding of a console's main faults when you actuall own it for yourself.

Well, it depends. Some buy them for bragging rights, some others because they like gaming a lot, and some simply don't have anything better to do with their cash. I for one, love gaming a lot, and I've got a personal opinion about all my platforms:
PC: I wish it was easier to play games on hi-end on it, since I've got a 7600GS =(
PS3: It's a pretty system, it's got a helluva lot of media features, and I like it's interface better than any other. I like the exclusives, and I like the controller's D pad. Still, I hate the PSN and the sixaxis motion thingy.

360: I like it's online community and it's features. I think the controller is almost perfect (a ps3 button layout and a better d pad would make it perfect IMO) and I've had the most fun with it, since most of my friends have a 360.

Wii: it's got my favorite franchise; Zelda, so I got this in an obligatory matter. I love (good) nintendo games, since they remind why I started gaming on the 1st place, but the lack of games directed towards me is infuriating. I want a new starfox and a new zelda.

As for handhelds:
DS: nintendo franchises, some great 3rd party titles, but I'm not that fond of the touch screen since it just makes me block the screen, since I've long hands, and a phat. I'd like more customization with it, say, the ability to change controls schemes in games like phantom hourglass, since I'd rather move with a D pad, but still games like mario kart, and castlevanias make me love the little device.

PSP: lots of features, I use it just to kill time by using many of it's features, and some nice games too. I love the design, but hate that there's no 2nd analog stick.

Now, the one I play the most now is the ps3, since it's the one I got the latest, and so far, I've enjoyed it, but I think the one which has given me the most fun is the 360, followed by the wii, but the ps3 is catching up, since all I need is more controllers, since most of my friends have wii's or 360's, it's easy to play MP, but just a couple have ps3's, so it's not that easy.

Yeah. Just ignore that little bit of information.

I didn't buy a PS3, 360, PC and a PSP to be informed. I bought them because there were games on each of those platforms that I wanted to play. I also had a Wii and a DS but I wasn't playing either one of them, so I got rid of them. But guess what? Because I have actually owned all of these systems, when I have criticism or praise, I'm confident that I know what the hell I'm talking about over some fanboy that never owned a particular system.

This isn't about bragging rights, it's about enjoying my hobby to the fullest. I know that everybody can't do it the way I do, but if someone asks me a question about any of those systems at least I know I'm giving an honest answer. And that works for me.

Okay then. But my original post was actually just turning around what people say about fanboys all the time. What if I don't want to play any games on the other systems? Apparently that's impossible, and the only explanation for my Nintendo fandom is "Buyer's Remorse."

Pretty silly either way, isn't it? ;)

I am a supreme PC fanboy, but between the consoles I like them all pretty equally.

However I tend to defend sony more than the others, mainly because it's more fun to be an underdog. But that's how I am in everything.

Edit: I own a PC, DS, PSP, PS3, and a Wii. Shortly to get an Xbox for Gears2.

Your confusing the ideas of being biased and being a fanboy as people have already stated. Everyone is biased toward something not just gaming consoles, but towards anything, noone is unbaised. For me, i tend to be biased toward the 360, i have the most games for it and enjoy it the most. That doesnt make me a fanboy, just because i prefer it over my Wii or PS3. Fanboys however blindly hate on a system and most of the time its because they hate it or the company and therefore dont own it. If you blindly hate a system, chances are you wouldnt buy it, that doesnt make much sense

Well no, having all 4 you can still be a fanboy

You can own a $5,000 PC yet only play solitaire

You can own a PS3 but only use it for movies and never buy a PS3 game

You can own a 360 just so you can watch

netflix on your TV and never buy a 360 game

You can own a Wii just to go with the crowd and never buy a game for it.

Would it make you any less of a fanboy if you have a liking towards a particular company?

I personally have a bit of Sony bias, but am quick to point out their BS, and I own all 4.

I agree with this guy! I own an Xbox 360, a PS3 and a gaming rig (and will be getting a Wii shortly) and I lean ever so slightly towards my PS3, but that does not mean I hate either my Xbox 360 or PC (or soon to be Wii). Damn to hell the fool of a took who wouldst call me a fanboy.

No kidding. Its not as if gaming is an expensive hobby. We aren't collecting classic cars or going skiing in Aspen 2 times a year. Even at $3,000 a year, its still cheaper than most hobbies when you are making grown-up money.

I don't need to justify anything, but I have all 3 AND a gaming PC, and I will say, PC is the best by far, 360 and PS3 are about equal for game playing, though the PS3 gets more use because of BR, and Wii is complete and utter trash. Its just my unbiased opinion. People will say its biased because they don't like it, that doesnt mean its biased though...

For sure, owning all three systems makes you less bias. I prefer my 360, only because I have had the most fun on it. If I had had the most fun on my PS3, I would prefer it. Its simple really, if I was biased in the first place, I would only be hurting myself, by missing out on great games. I think as a multi console owner you can have better "informed" opinions. Most people on here form a opinion with out ever seeing what there are missing. Alot of the fanboyism on here is from young kids that cant afford more than one console, so the feel they have to defend it. A big point people miss is, they are KIDS, WE are arguing with KIDS about video games!!!! This is why I no longer take SW seriously, and no longer feel the need to win a argument.

yes and no...while everybody can own and enjoy all 4 game systems, its simple human nature to gravitate towards one that you "enjoy" most.

that being said i own a Wii, 360 and PC...i plan on a PSP soon and a PS3 when more games of my intrest are out. and i tend to grafitate towards nintendo more when looking for huge releces and the 360 for...well most everything right now >.>

I been playing games for 25. How can i be a fanboy of any console when none lasted 25 years. I think fanboys are generally young kids who started gaming recently (1 or 2 gens) on one console. Think about it, why would i care about Nintendo, Sony or MS?? They havent even been around for 5 gens except Nintendo (much love Nintendo)!!!!

I just bought a psp, I mainly use it in the bathroom {lol}. Unless you travel or just love hand held games, I dont see the point. I have a 360/ps3/wii and a big screen tv, so unless Im on the toilet, or on the road it is useless to me. I also have a Ipod so the music downloads dont help me either.

that being said i own a Wii, 360 and PC...i plan on a PSP soon and a PS3 when more games of my intrest are out. and i tend to grafitate towards nintendo more when looking for huge releces and the 360 for...well most everything right now >.>

I just bought a psp, I mainly use it in the bathroom {lol}. Unless you travel or just love hand held games, I dont see the point. I have a 360/ps3/wii and a big screen tv, so unless Im on the toilet, or on the road it is useless to me. I also have a Ipod so the music downloads dont help me either.

yeah it make take awhile, considering i've barely been touching my DS and currently own like 3 games for it * i plan on rebuilding my collection*
