No I had one since launch and used XBL since the Beta on Orginal XBOX.

Well allow me to answer your question.

The minute I download, let's say, a demo, a prompt comes up to "Play Now". I press that and *boom* I'm playing :)

You'd know that if you actually USED XBL. And the best thing is that part comes FREE.

I dunno. But installing doesn't take long at all. And it's free, and they're going to update the servers to handle more online flow...

well for me most of my demos seem to take longer to d/l on XBL ....I always thought that was part of the reason why there was no install.

The moment the Demo is donwloaded it is automatically installed on your Hard Drive. No need for prompts and stuff like a PC. You are able to remove demos and videoswhenever you dont want them anymore. If it didnt install, it wouldnt appear as removeable from HD.

Everything is like that in xbox Live

Quick system updates, pretty much automatic, all you have to do is say "yes" for the update and wham..its done

Downloadable content, demos, videos, Live Arcade games...quick and easy.

With PS3, you have to navigate several menues and screens and accept terms of agreements to download...then wait forever for the download. Then you have to "install" the demo, video, game. System updates are horrible.

Yeah, XBL is much more streamlined and convenient than PSN. It's inarguable. PSN will get better but XBL is certainly king right now when it comes to online gaming on anything but a computer.

It does not matter if it takes 5 seconds or or 10 minutes to install you still need to install.

I didn't know you had to install a PS3 demo.

It's similar to the rule of web design....less clicks makes for a better user experience. In this case, one less step on the 360 dashboard.

Is this just a one-off inconvenience, or is it an indicator of how the whole PS3 interface experience is.

yeah cows make a big deal about the 10 seconds it takes to swap a game disk, which ifyou have an xbox 360 you have yet to do,so why cant lemmings make fun of cows having to install games and demos before they play them??

It takes at least 3 or bigger demos. that wouldn't be so terrible if it didn't take so long to download it.

It's strange that PS3 has chosen to do demo-downloads that way.

Why on earth doesn't it just install by itself when it's downloaded - more or less as an automatic extension of the download-process that you are really not aware of? This is probably how the 360 does it.

You are after all gonna play the demo, or else you wouldn't have bothered downloading it in the first place...

That's what I was thinking. I mean.... installation configures the game to your system. But it's a console.... all the key parts are the same. Decompressing files? Well, couldnt' they make it part of the "download" process?

Is there a process we don't know about?
