How far have we come? PS3 vs PC

Okay a while back another user put a topic about Uncharted 2 beating Crysis's graphics but as most would think the responses said that it wasn't. So I want to know, how much farther do you think we are from getting Crysis graphics on the PS3 since Uncharted 2 and Killzone 2 did not utilize the full power of the PS3? To me I think were just about their just need to push a little more and you got Crysis's graphics. Please do not flame and put stupid fanboy responses. i want your honest opinion and please keep open mind about in this discussion.

no i meanUncharted 2vs Crysis. how far do we have to go to get crysis graphics on the PS3. I know the PC is upgradable and its graphics will just get betterbut i only mean to compare the PS3 graphics so far to Crysis.

the cryengine is being ported to consoles so I guess we will see how well it compares to the PC version.

Just because console hardware is fixed and much easier to utilize; doesn't mean it is an infinite well of performance you can just keep tapping a little more from...

Not even just that, the ps3 could be outperformed by a 7800 gt and it's PPE is as powerful as a single core 1,8ghz ppc g5.

The cell may be a powerhouse, but not the ps3's cell, I'm referring to the cell i8, used on the ibm roadrunner.

Think about it in this sense, the PS3 RSX has 256mb of Vram were as one of my 8800 GTs have 512mb Vram.

Which one can hold the most information? Clearly the 512mb on the 8800 GT, it is simply more and you cannot really argue with that. Now Crysis is designed to take advantage of GPUs with 512mb or even more Vram, how then could RSX meet that quality? 256mb can only ever hold 256mb, you can change what's in there but not put more than 256mb worth of information in there.

Apply this idea to every other aspect of the PS3's hardware, you cannot make it perform higher than its maximum capability; no matter how hard you work on it.

I know even the developer for Crytek Studios said No game will match the graphics of Crysis this generation nor is the PC going to go ahead of Crysis graphics this generation because the consoles are stopping it.

Honestly, after playing Uncharted 2 on my 46inch, IMO the graphics are just as good as Crysis. Seriously I have been in awe by the graphics, its pretty ridiculous. No screenshots can do justice like playing the game.

never bro, just recently we are able to play crysis warhead with enthusiast settings @ res of 1920x1200 2xAA 16X AF. This is with ATI's new monster gpu. That is using one single GpU. crossfire is another story. quit the fanboy dooky, ps3 wont compete unless you take the guts out and use an nvidia chip set mobo, i7 cpu, ddr3, hd, powersuply, dvd player, windows os, and a real GPU. you can take off the ps3 tag and put it on your new machine and call it a ps3 if you would like. xD cant wait for dumb diablo 3. i wanna build a new pc... ah such a great time to be a gamer!

I have said it before...I have played Crysis on a top end PC. It looks good but its only about 5% better. It is NOTHING jaw dropping after so many years now of great visuals. Im sorry pcgamers but you are being quite dramatic about this game and its been going on for far too long now. Please quit bringing it up. Funny because after playing both Crysis, and other PC games in real 1080 on my 52 inch I can safely say that as amazing as U2 graphics are for a console title, they are a far cry from Crysis. To be frank I can safely say that the graphics of U2 are so over hyped as the game only looks a little better then the first Uncharted.

Thats not saying the game looks bad. It does infact look pretty damn good. But it's not high end PC game good looking. Not even close. The damn resolution alon can make some games that on consoles are crushed by U2 hold there own. Batman maxed out at 1920x1080 is pretty damn amazing. Unreal 3, Gears 1, Stalker, etc all are pretty damn close if not better looking then U2.

of course many of the Ps3 loving clones of this board will not listen or care, but thats the way it is. Most PS3 people claiming that it has better graphics then Cyrsis dont have a GTX 260 or better. Hell I have a 280 that cost as much as the PS3 costs now when I bought it. It better crap on the consoles. And it does in full 1080p.

At this point, consoles are not on the PC level, and probably never will unless the PC "dies", which is unlikely.

I love it, some people actutally believe that UT3 and Stalker are comparable to Uncharted 2, hell it's laughable. Yes, thanks to the scalabilty of the PC those games can have a far higher resolution then any console game, however resolution is but one factor that dertermines how good a game looks.

Also just an FYI for some people Uncharted 2 does come pretty damn close to Crysis is some areas, in terms of scale and physics it falls short, however in shear visual splendor it comes pretty damn close and even exceeds it in a few cases.
