I don't understand why PS3/360 fans argue over which console offers the best visuals, when the PC is already significantly in the lead when it comes to pretty pictures. I think it's a moot point if you are going to obsess over graphics from consoles, you might as well get a PC.

Cause they those platforms are competeing, there is no problem for that, if someone doesnt want a PC and wants to know what console has better graphics let them find that out without a huge picturespam of crysis pics.
This is simply a fact, but one which i think we all like to ignore. :P Arguing over graphics on consoles is indeed completely pointless when both machines offer up the same ball park of graphical quality, and both are already years behind what the PC is pumping out.
People are just interested to see which fixed piece of hardware can pump out better graphics. That's all there is to it. Despite the obsession with graphics kings here I'm pretty sure the AAAE+ list is considered more important anyway.
I for one would love if "next gen" consoles pull a Wii, and only improve visuals slightly, and use hardware to better framerate/scale with the visual presentation available to us now.
I don't understand why people can't see the significance of graphics. Technology by itself is all about visuals. What is the difference between a ps3 and a ps1, or a 360 vs an Xbox 1, if not graphics? Controls? It's the same controls. What advantage does Blu-ray have over DVD? Or DVD over CD, if not graphics? Whether it's game or a movie, the advancement of technology itself, is always about bringing better visuals. Why do you think there even exists things like HD TVs if visuals aren't important.
All i can say is, follow the pace, or be left behind. If gameplay is solely what makes a game, go back and play 15 year old games. And you generally don't do that right? So visuals are important, you just refuse to accept it.

Because when you don't have the unfair advantage of constantly upgrading hardware it makes the console graphics war more debatable, level playing field (between the PS3 and 360 anyway).

Because there are really 4 different demographics, the PC gamer, the 360/PS3 gamer, the Wii gamer, the mobile/iPhone gamer. The PS3/360 happen to fall into the same market or demographic so naturally the most competition occurs between the two. Of course the markets overflow and overlap, but that is a general idea of how the competition works.

I don't know I just Googled "Best boxers" :P Haha, I thought you're analogy was a bit off. For one thing there's two Sugar Ray's and neither of them can be compared to Ali or Tyson because they're in different weight classes. Though anyone will tell you both Ali and Tyson are better than the Sugar Ray's :P Maybe something like, Roy Jones and Jeff Lacey? Who cares Sugar Ray Leonard.

its not about prettyness its about power of two systems that have strict and finite resources there's no point in arguing about a PC because its being updated continually, theres no point in wining with hardware when you can just decide to buy a more powerful machine. So the PC returns whats invested, want more spend more money done deal. Its not like this with the consoles, they get made and thats it, no upgrading, and since its not normal hardware comparing games is the only thing we have to go for graphics. Its like arguing over nvidia vs ati, the PC is a platform and not really a system. PC's can be better than consoles, or worse depending on it's purpose and how much your willing to spend.
