Should I buy them?
Which one is better

KotOR was one of the greatest video games ever made.
KotOR II was also a great game, and it had a lot of interesting aspects as far as character development and how your choices effect the party and storyline, but these aspects are underdeveloped and the story and ending were rushed, so it really has a sort of unfinished feel.
Great. And I just want to defend KOTOR2 by saying I think it fell victim to "sophomore syndrome".-RPGamer-Its my understanding that it fell victim to LucasArts forcing Obsidian to release it in time for the holiday season. Apparently there was a ton of content cut from the game and obviously the game is riddled with bugs. From what I've heard KOTOR 2 could have been better than KOTOR 1.

Would you mind elaborating on that a bit? I have a vague understanding of sophomore syndrome but I don't see how it applies here. I'm just curious because as I mentioned above I prefer KotoR 2 over the first and I'm puzzled as to why it wasn't as well recieved as it's predecessor.

Sure that too, I'm just speaking in general. I find many series have a large group of follower that say "the first is the best, period" despite how manyadvances the latter may make or attempt to fix. I think many people just don't have the same feeling for the second or third b/c by that time it's no longer "new" and it will never be "new" again.

Basically sophomore syndrome is when something (game, movie, cd, book whatever) can't provide the "new" feeling, or first tiem feeling, that the previous entry offered. Even if the follow up improves, evolves, and fixes it is still often seen as a weaker entry to many people.
I'm not saying thats the only reason for this game getting lesser acknowledgement.
I think in some aspects 2 was better than 1. Overall, many will be more inclined to the first. But I think The Sith Lords could have truely been outstanding if they just didn't rush it. There were only two complaints I had with it:
1. Not enough opportunities to use all your party members (never toucked HK-47, and by the time you get G0-T0 with his fancy droid manipulative attacks, you've gone through 75% of the droids in the game)
2. Some annoying plot holes (what the hell happened to the HK-50s?)
2. apparently modders are trying to put that back into KOTAR too using the leftover code.

It fell victim to not developed by Bioware syndrome.

i know, i've been waiting for them to finish. but they've been at it for almost 3 years. i just hope they finish it at all. They are UNBELIEVABLY OVERRATED.
They are maybe one of the most over rated games of last gen, they are up there with the likes of Halo 2. The first game had terrible graphics, an incredibly stale story line and a bad combat system. Really I personally only bought the game because of the massive ammount of high ratings it got and I ended up quiting the game in the middle of it because I didn't want to finish it. And the only time I EVER quit a game in the middle because it was so bad was FFX-2. This game has no memorable characters and such a stale gameplay, it seems like work trying to progress in the storyline.
My advice is to stay away from this game. But then again maybe it's just me who doesn't like this game.
