How good is Halo?

I have never played the series. I am wondering how good Halo actually is. Is it really that good, or is it just hype? I have played many FPS and to me most of them seem to be a dime a dozen. Most of them are good, but I have never played any of them that makes me shake in its very presence.

Halo seems to get so much recognition, but does it really deserve it? What makes it any different from the plethora of other great shooters like COD, Rainbow Six, Red Faction, etc? I am not trolling or flaming--I just want to know what is it in the formula that makes Halo so great?

Opinions will differ on how good Halo actually is.

I played it on PC and overall, it was pretty good. The single player's depth most certainly didnt touch the level of an FPSRPG like Deus Ex, nor does it have the ultra-streamlined gameplay of the Unreal Tournament series. It is a very well balanced game with no severe defecencies. IMO, you should try it and see if it's worth the hype.

To me Halo is just a standard shooter but there is something about it that does set it apart from other console shooters. Halo is one the best console shooters but PC shooters are still better.nintendofreak_2

for me, Halo CE is the best FPS i've played...i beat it over and over again, i felt cheated witHalo 2though, and i don't know if i wantHalo 3yet....

balance, fun, enjoyable story, challenge, its a very well made shooter

What makes Half Life 2 one of the greatest single player shooters of all time? Essentially, all it is is just a graphical upgrade of Half Life 1.

Why is Halo fun? No one can really explain. It just is.

It's not just the consumers that find it amazing. Devs look up to it too.

Co-op, Two weapon system, health recharge, inclusion of vehicles in FPS -- all popularized by Halo, because it worked brilliantly. Hell, after Halo 2 brought out a collector's tin, is there any game that doesn't have such an edition?

it didnt score the best, also, if its 'best of the best' how did HL2 get goty? it is very well put together, there is noting special about it aside from how well it was put together, its a standard shooter with a spin of quality

You should really name some, because I have a 360 just for Halo. Every other game I play on PC. I've probably played more FPSs than you have, and very few can match up to Halo.

I got into serious gaming with PC fps's. I've played them all. All the Quakes, Dooms, Half-lifes, Unreals, Duke Nukem, NOLFs, Far Cry, and Tribes.

Walk away. I'm no noob at gaming.

It just feels good to play. The sleek, clean interfacr is easy to understan, and the controls feel spot-on. I love that games, Halo: CE is my favorate shooter of all time, and Halo 2 is my favorate online shooter to date.NAPK1NS

Because Halo: CE was released in 2001. Half Life 2 was released in 2004 and was competing with the sequel to Halo.

Its damn good, at least the console versions (PC not so much). I wouldn't rank them in my top 10 shooters of all time, but it would definitely make the top 20.PBSnipes

Yes, I have S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and I've played it.

Yeah, save the annoying wild dogs and the retarded ally A.I, it's sure as hell better than Halo :lol:

And yeah, the fully optimized game code just rocks. I mean, it plays so smoothly on my computer :roll:

You know you can get seriously shot down with the "Ok story" department. The others I won't even bother, but when someone says Halo has an average story compared to other shooters, it just begs the question: What FPSs had a good story?

Halo didn't necessarily create anything new, but it sure as hell made things that were already there fantastic. Dual wielding, vehicles,grenades, etc. Were in a lot of games before it, but halo made it so much better.CraigJK

Tons of the older ones I have played from the numerous Dark Forces series, System Shocks, AVP2, Riddick even HL2 (though it had a different story telling as in the first person ideal).. I found the character mighty cliche and the story nothing new I have seen or read, maybe people should start reading more......
