Unfortunately as a huge SM fan I can't play that for now.
What things can you do there other than main missions?
What side missions do you have there ?
Has it managed to reach the greatness of GTA ?

I wouldn't say it's the best open world game, but it's a superb game. Behind GOW for the best exclusive this year.
I get an Arkham Knight vibe from it in terms of things to do (although maybe a little less than AK). I have only done a few main missions and spent the rest of the time just swinging through town. Each district has a collection of things to do that distract you from the main quest. I'm being pretty vague as there are people here that probably want to experience/be surprised while they play. There are quests straight up listed as "Side Quests", but I have yet to do one. There also seem to be a lot of activities that are locked atm. I honestly just have a lot of fun moving quickly through the city.
@dorog1995: So far, no. Based on when this game takes place, I'm not sure if it will have pizza delivery missions. Again, it should be noted that I am only 2-3 main missions in the game and the majority of activities are listed as "locked", not telling me what they even could be.
I just have a bad habit of roaming the open world instead of doing quests lol. I'll likely focus on some of the main quests later tn.
You want a game about a superhero delivering pizza ?
It was one of the best side missions in SM 2.
I think it’s better than the Arkham games.
Arkham games was just spamming attack and coutering which lead to just non stop kicks and punches on screen.
I know you could do more but you really did have to.
In Spiderman there are mechanics that actually help with mobs that aren’t just jumping across the screen doing a flying kick or super long punch.
Visually it’s just more fun to see your character do more in fights.
It's really good, the best rendition of New York City I've ever seen in a game.
You owe it to yourself to get this game if you're a Spider-Man fan, it's the best Spider-Man game ever and one of the best superhero games I've ever played. The city feels alive and the combat is very rewarding and smooth.
It's right up there with Arkham City for me. Visually its stunning and it's amazing just how the city feels alive. I remember I enjoyed infamous SS but one of the criticisms was the city didn't have a whole lot of NPCs and it didn't feel alive. NYC in Spiderman is huge though with people and cars everywhere its amazing.
It's a good game on it's own merit but if you're a Spider-Man fan it's a must buy.
@dorog1995: LOL Lets not be crazy. Its very entertaining at this point. It is very much Arkham and Mordor's combat system. The open world is fun and active. It is not GTA in any shape or form but it doesn't need to be imo.
@PSP107: Yup, better than Maximum Carnage.
It’s a good game by itself and I think that’s what makes it so awesome. Even if you’re not a Spidey fan, there’s still something here for you. It truly is one of the best superhero games ever and up there with the Arkham games.
It's a great game TC, I'd say almost on par with the first two Arkham games. The activities around the city are the usual collect-athons that plague other open world games unfortunately, mostly filler, but this is somewhat mitigated by how enjoyable it is to traverse the city, see how detailed and fully realized it is, and by how these collectibles help elaborate on the lore, even if it's played as a check list. Side activities are what you'd expect from Spider-Man (save people, stop robberies, do research, etc).
Pick this one up, it's worth a buy easily. Also, this isn't like GTA at all. Think the Arkham games, it's extremely similar.
@dorog1995: You could've just went to the hype thread, cause me and a lot of players are covering and discussing the game itself. But since you already made this thread, guess it couldn't hurt to talk about what to expect. Let's see, where do I even start?
@davillain-: I compare it because both GTA and Spiderman are open world games and they should be compared to each other.

Yeah? You sure could've fooled me XD
If you really want to compare the two, GTAV open-world is bigger then Spider-Man and GTAV has one slight advantage over Marvel's Spider-Man. in GTAV, you can fly a Plan over higher altitudes.
Its actually really boring and shallow, you collect back packs, take pictures of landmarks and do research station missions. Random stop bad guy missions. The city feels shallow and dead, mountains of buildings. I am done with open world games they are all to same. Mary jane is ugly, the developers dont know what a nice female butt looks like they all look weird in this game. I would give it a 6.5
@Advid-Gamer: Wow. Doesn't sound good.(But still we never had any decent open world spider-man game before.Even Spiderman 2 the movie game had a boring open world)
about backpacks, do they give you any bonus for collecting them ?(Similar to hidden pockets in GTA games than each 10 of them will give you a bonus)
It's good, but it won't touch something like GTA. You play a more mature Spider-Man, so obviously things like Pizza Delivery make no sense, especially given the context of your civilian work as a scientist.
Side-missions are standard fair, with you taking on some menial stuff, but other villains who are prominent in the comics, but not part of the main story in this game. On top of that, you have certain science-related side-missions as well as challenges (combat/swinging/etc.)
Edit: Oddly, I also forgot the fact that you can stop random crimes.

They unlock new suites, so there is actually a reason to get them , I have almost all of them already
@dorog1995: The game's open world is miles behind GTA. And they put little effort regards secondary stuff you got to do. But, and this is a big but, swinging through the city is so satisfying that I'm still yet to feel tired. But it's far from being top tier.
But all elements combined result in s very pleasant experience, and I really don't like Spider-Man as a character (and the game doesn't changes that for me). Still the game is good enough to make me ignore it.

Batman Ac is miles ahead of this game. What is the point of a huge city thousands of buildings and nothing to do but take pictures and find some backpacks that have no challenge. Total waste of space. The game is not garbage its just average at best another over hyped sony exclusive. For me this is the worst gen. Boring open world games focused on shinys.
Thanks everyone for second wave of replies.
Another question came into my mind, does this game has civilian rescue missions ?(Which in previous SM games required you to grab civilians/pedestrians and take them to a hospital)

Thanks, but may you say more about swinging challenges ? Are they similar to Spiderman 2 ? ( which asked you to swing/wall run into rings and then gave you a rank depending on the time that you finished them)

Basically, you chase a drone around the city and it leavers trackers or something and you basically swing through a glowing "globe" of energy. The more you hit, and the faster you catch the drone once it lands, then the higher your score. There are three score levels for each challenge.

Yes. You don't have to carry them all the way to hospital though just leave them there for the ambulance and police to arrive.

its a batman and shadow of war clone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do that too. I like being a virtual tourist in games so I've just been walking the streets of Manhattan with Spidey. The detail is the best for an NYC-based game yet.
I went around and collected all the backpacks and photoed all the landmarks as soon as they we're available.
I just now unlocked research labs. I'll finish those before moving on.
My spidey level 15 and I'm only 20% in the story.
This game definitely takes a lot of cues from web of shadows.
Also it's a fairly accurate rendition of NYC.
Took me a while to get used to the combat. My instinct is to hit triangle every time I see the counter symbol.
Once you get the hang of swinging through the city, it's incredibly satisfying.
So far the story isn't as good as web of shadows. But I'm still not far into the story.
So far it's the second best spidey game I've played.
It's OK. It's relaxing. It has little nuggets of Spiderman items and history. Some scenario's that play out. The webslinging is very well done. It feels nice to just spend some time roaming the city on a day. That's all I expected and they delivered.
This game definitely takes a lot of cues from web of shadows.
May me explain what things were inspired ? (From trailers the only similarity of it to WOS was the wall run and web swlinging)
Cookie cutter, although some stuff is fun, and when it includes the combat, it's better.
Because the combat is hella cool.

This right here. I've screwed up due to this more times than I can count, it feels unintuitive to have to reach past two buttons to hit circle; the dodge button should be adjacent to attack not only for sensible grouping of the two most basic combat functions, but because it's quicker in tight spots. It may be only a split second, but that's enough time to get hit. They should include an option to change it.
@R4gn4r0k: there is a side mission about fixing some water towers and unclogging a drain.
Plumber-man, plumber-man, fix your pipes, yes he can.
The game is pretty fun, but not without it's flaws.
- Controls feel better than SM2 but still has issues with fine motor controls if you want accuracy in some spots. You basically hold R2 to swing and at minimum don't really need to press anything else to traverse the land. There are other methods like zip line and power jumps, etc, but there isn't a lot of a learning curve for this.
- Side missions are completely forgettable from a story perspective. They add nothing to the core story and are very unrealistic.
- Side missions are all similar. So they are broken into different 'minigame' types, and those will vary between 2-3 styles at the different locations. Similar to Assassins Creed, the map is divided into sections, each with towers to unlock both the map and the local side missions/collectables. As you go through the game, new side mission types unlock for each map section. This whole setup feels very dated and is not really fun aside from being mostly filler.
- Main story is pretty good (so far, i'm like 50% of the way through). The main story missions feel far better than any of the side missions.
From an open world perspective, it is very similar to any assassins creed game or GTA game. Quite literally, people walk around and do things, but nothing that you can interact with in any significant way. It's very much a "gotta get from point A to point B" type game, layered with the story missions in between.
