A 2, I guess. I'll play an old game like OoT or Pokemon Stadium 2, but I still appreciate good graphics.

As long as a game looks good, I'm happy. This can be technically or artistically, it doesn't have to be both.

As anyone who plays video games, they are as important as any other aspect of a game. A game with poor graphics, or a bad framerate isn't going to be enjoyable to play, even if the rest of the game is great. Every aspect of a game needs to be solid for it to be considered "great." Granted, I don't expect PS games to look like 360 games, but I expect them to be good for the system they are on.

2, as long as its good enough for immersion I'm happy. Having said that some of the older games look rough by todays standards, others graphics don't matter (ie if the gameplay is solid enough its ok)

It really depends on what system I'm playing. If a shelled out 40 dollars for a DS game and it isn't above the standards of a DS game I'm going to be ticked off.

so long as the games have 0 jaggies, no blurry textures and high resolutions i'm generally happy. Currently playing Armourd Princess: Crossworlds and Neman: Contest of Heroes, both are pretty average from a tech point but look sharp and clean and run smooooth as butter lol.

Does it have a bad framerate? When I say "poor" graphics, I mean ones that aren't functional, not low-fidelity graphics. Minecraft looks like something from the early-1990's, but I love it because of the styIe and the fact it doesn't chug and crash.

I'd say about a 2. Graphics with a strong artistic quality can really add to a game for me (Okami, A Boy And His Blob, Valkyria Chronicles) but it's not a deal breaker if the visuals aren't a games strong point.

I'm inclined to say a 2 or 3. As long as they don't take away from the game (ie. bad framerate, etc.) then it's not such a big deal to me.

Without good graphics, Amnesia would not have been the game that it was.

-

You will be hard pressed to find any person that says graphics are more important than gameplay (as stated for the billionth time). Nothing is wrong with wanting and deserving great graphics. It is 2010. We are allowed both great gameplay and graphics all at once.

Yep, I agree. Graphics king, queen, prince, jacket graphic king,..texture graphic king, console graphic king, gun graphic king even.. you name it. And suddenly you'd think that graphics are hardly important to many. I mean half of the threads here on system ars are about graphics. Graphics help immersion and so are an important factor of many games. Not all games of course, it depends on the type of game - I play many games that aren't at the height of graphic awesomeness and this doesn't put me off playing them, however, if the graphics were improved on those games, I'd be lying if I said I wouldn't be happy about it.

For tech standards (such as framerate), most important. Art, well, depends on the game. Like an anime game WITHOUT manga styIe or cel-shading graphics? Yeah, doesn't work (which is why DBZ Budokai 1 on PS2 looks worse than the Gamecube version). So to an extent, I care about graphics. But a bad looking game =/= overall bad game.

What kind of graphics are we speaking of? Just how the game looks overall and how everything is presented, or the technical part of it? Because if it's technical, I couldn't possibly care less. If anyone really values the technical aspect over gameplay, they shouldn't play games. As for the actual look of games, it really depends. A game needs to look nice if I'm going to be staring at it for ten hours and great art can push a game a lot further. But the texture resolution, dynamic lighting, etc, all totally worthless to me.

graphics are important somewhat, but there's a balance to graphics since graphics is such a vague term, I mean look at Dead Rising 2, I've heard people complain about the graphics, sure the character models are of lower detail but considering how the game handles rendering hundreds of on screen characters at once I think that graphically it's rather impressive, I wouldn't in such a case expect all the character models to render as detailed as MGS4 characters if the game had to render 100s of characters at once, if that were to happen the games framerate would be abysmal looking at some of the online videos that PC gamers post it sometimes seems gamers like higher amount of detail but care less about framerate, I for instance hate a slow framerate, much more prefer a smooth one even if it's at the expense of less detail, textures, resolution, etc and there's more that goes into visual design than a game engines graphic capabilities, such as artistic design which goes a long way, and I prefer great artistic design crispier graphics any day an impressive physics engine is also... well, impressive

A lot, honestly. (4). I could enjoy something that looks like a puddle of sick but we don't need to settle for gameplay OR graphics. I find that any game with highly acclaimed visuals adds to the experience somehow. Either to make it more immersive, believable as a game world or simply great to look at.

I voted 3 although 4 can apply as well. Good graphics does help to draw me in. I wasn't interested in Bioshock when I bought the $19.95 Bioshock/Oblivion combo back in January. But, when I saw the (both nice and gruesome) eye candy in Bioshock, it got me very interested in the game.

Exactly. Imo super mario kart has awesome graphics.. So does NiGHTS and many older games. I dont really understand why alot of people seem to say that just because its old means the game has terrible graphics

1.

As long as I know what's going on in the game and it doesn't effect the gameplay I don't care. If you ignore games because of graphics your honestly missing out on a lot..

For example Anacreon: Reconstruction 4021 is considered to be one of the best strategy games ever, but it has very primitive graphics.

3 for me, they are important to me and they can even enhance a mediocre game but the appeal is fleeting, that and my idea of good graphics may be different to yours (I rank artistic style very highly). I also believe consistency is important and hate it when one part of the game looks awesome but other elements were sacrificed.

well im currently playing f1 2010. but not long ago i was playing alot of mount and blade and kings bounty. i have 0 problem with going from playing crysis on max to moon on the DS. on my PC if a game is having a performance issue then the first things to drop are AA and AF and it doesnt bother me greatly if a few settings also have to be dropped. .....so i voted 2. if a game is good then the graphics dont bother me. i am always interested to see what devs can do with limited hardware (im interested to see how far devs can push the 3DS in the years to come for example) and im also interested to see what devs can do with basically unlimited hardware (like crysis...though sadly we havent had a crysis since..well..warhead :( ). but when it comes to dealing out the dosh...the graphics have little influence on what games i buy.

I voted a 3, I'm impressed when a game has good graphics and it can help my enjoyment of a game, but it's not 100% necessary for a game to be good.

For me it's split 3 equal ways. 33.3% Game Play, 33.3% Graphics, and 33.3% Story. Unless it's an online only game like Warhawk, MAG, or Socom then it's 50% graphics and 50% gameplay.
