I rate it 5 because I'll solely buy a WiiU for it because I didn't really had the chance to play many wii exclusives.

It's a bonus, but a very welcome and expected one. Nintendo does good things with BC, Sony should've followed suit.

^This. I expect my Wii U to be able to play my Wii games. I expect nothing from Sony because this gen has shown them that they can get rid of BC and charge people for up-rezzed versions of old games. Microsoft I could see going either way.

It's pretty important for the simple fact that I had to re-buy a bunch of PS2 games this gen digitally, or in a collection, to play on the PS3. I'll be damned if I re-buy PS3 games just to play on the PS4.

Not very and if recent trends are to be taken into account there won't be any BC for at least two of the consoles next gen.

No BC = keep current console, sh!tty BC = keep current console, full BC but have to buy game again = keep current console, Free BC = ok great, sell current console.

> just a bonus, can live without it.

4. I have a lot of 360 and PS3 games and I would like to continue playing them without having to switch consoles.

I likely wont purchase most of the new gen systems at launch specially the next MS system but I have a backlog of games still on ps3 and 360 and I have alot of downlodable games on both so I would hate to lose them so BC would be a requirement when it comes to downloadable games not so much retail though.

While I will probably still keep my older systems, I would rather have full BC because it would make less clutter under the TV. I have a lot of backlog games since I generally buy games when they go on sale. Allows me to purchase more games every year then paying full price :) Now if I only had time to finish them all...

2- I might want to play an old game at some point but it's very unlikely, so it's pretty much useless.

I understand that PS3 BC would likely hurt PS4 with the extra cost, i would like them to make a special limited edition model that includes PS3 BC or some kind of accessory that you plug into the PS4 that allows PS3 BC.

It's a zero factor for me. My 360 can play all of the Xbox games that I own but I thik I've played maybe 4 hours of Xbox games since getting the 360. It's nifty but not actually useful for me. I don't throw my old consoles away so I don't need it. This last part might be controversial but If the new system's line-up is so terrible or lacking that playing last gen games is a major selling point, then it's probably not a mature enough system to be worth purchasing at that point.

I voted 4, but the thing is, the next gen consoles could well be better off without it. They should probably drop it if it's going to significantlyadd to the console's cost, or impact its suitability for game development.

It is the absolute most important thing for me. If it can't be emulated on PC very well then it really needs to be a feature.

There is no reason a new Xbox wont have it... For years MS said the next Xbox would have it and how they wish they could of had it with 360... That's why they bought the rights to the GPU and CPU. So if there is no BC in the next Xbox... Then MS lied and just doesn't give a crap. Would be nice if "Forward Compat" was true... Their was alot of hype about it. Playing 360 games in 1080p native would be great at 60 FPS. I learned never to get your hopes up this gen. Sooo much hype and never delievers.

1. There will be NO backwards compatability. There's just not enough room in the TDP of next gen consoles to accomodate new hardware plus old. Also, the manufacturers and publishers realized just how easy it is to get console gamers to pay for a port of an old game.

2. Sucks to be a console gamer. Having to keep around aging, dust covered consoles piling up in corners in order to enjoy older games.

3. PC >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> consoles.

5. One of the things I hated about this gen is that I wanted to play PS2 games on my PS3 but sadly I bought it too late. Plus in my house we need to find more space so having like 3 or more consoles connected to my TV is a trouble.

I need it so I would have something to play when I get my next console I don't want to purchase a console an not be able to play anything after I beat the games I purchase with my console why I'm waiting for more games to release.

Backwards Compatibilty is important at first but then it stops becoming important when the line-up gets better so after about the 1st or 2nd year backwards compatibility becomes just a bonus.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the Wii-U wouldn't have much issue with backwards compatability. The Wii is not hard to emulate (It's done routinely on the PC), and the hardware is cheap and low powered.

The same will likely NOT be the case for the other consoles.

Bardock47

It will be completely backward compatible with Wii aka being able to play the discs and all: (http://www.gamingexaminer.com/wii-u-fully-backwards-compatible-games-and-controllers/15882/). Then it will support older consoles (N64, NES, SNES, Gamecube etc) through something called a virtual console: http://wiiudaily.com/wii-u-virtual-console/. Now these games you will need to rebuy fort $3-$15. It's still a real sweet feature imo.
