Be it shooters, RPGs, racers, etc. How important is online play to you (for your favorite genres)? Would you not buy a game if it didn't have the "online" sticker on the case? Do you have a firm non-online stance? Lets hear those opinions.

Personally, I'm not much of a multiplayer kind of guy. I tend to relish the single-player experience, and play multiplayer games when friends are over. Outside of that, I play online quite rarely.

For many games I preffer SP to MP,and I have plenty of friends to play with and I definitly preffer playing with my friends than with people online. I hope splitscreen doesnt die. I love splitscreen. If I didnt have people to play with it would be more important to me.

Really depends on the genre and gameplay of the individual game.

pretty important. Online typically extends the replay value of a game.

What do you think of VF5 and Soul Calibur, since they didn't add online up until now?

I think the online aspect really adds a lot of replay value to the game. Playing the AI is great, but every person you play online will be different. If that's not a draw, I don't know what is.

It depends upon the game. For a game like metroid online is not important. For a game like smash bros. I'd say it's needed, especially in this day and age.

It depends on the game. If a game doesn't evolve around the story, then it should have multiplayer. If a game has a deep story, then it shouldn't have multiplayer.

i don't look for online capablities or play online every game i buy, i mostly prefer playing online few games only , rest of the games i play the single player part mostly and maybe any mods to extend the replay value.

Yeah, the replay value is a big aspect here.

But to be honest, I'm still playing Melee and Soul Calibur to this date, even alone, and it's still a blast.

Indeed. And I'm sure both the next Soul Calibur and the 360 version of VF5 will be spectacular games, regardless of online play. It just adds more to an already very complete package. Is online play important for me? Yes. Can there be exceptions? Yes (Bioshock). Would Halo 2 have been the replay-value champion without online multi? Probably not.

Online play isn't too important to me. I'm in it for the single player or split-screen occasionally. I'd never buy a game solely for online multiplayer, and whether or not it has online play doesn't influence if I'll buy it. Single player's where the importance lies for me. Even with games that have online multiplayer,I very rarely if ever use it.

For me it really depends on the game. Even if a game does have multiplayer I usually finish the campaign first before I get into Multiplayer, that wayI have a feel for the game. Most games I can live without online there are so many games I do not know how people play all of them online. For me I like to win and help my team, so I won't play a game unless I can get really into it.

Right on you said it better than me. An example for me was shadow run it looked very cool. I played the tutorial and was not disapointed until I realized that there was no campaign. Give me a break. I took it back even thoughI thought it had great, Weapons, and magic. It was also very cool the way different races could use magic and weapons for their benefit. Ex. the Elf character being able to Block bullets with the Samurai sword and "wired reflexes".

Online play is required to get my blood pressure up to stroke level. Other than that I can live without it.

It does boils down to personal taste, but sometimes it can cover up (for better or worse) other aspects of the game.

My friend buys Gears of War. Not once has he played the campaign. Never glanced at it. From the moment he got it, it was all online multiplayer. He learned the feel of the game from getting owned. I say to him, "you do realize that there's a campaign in there that's just as fun?". His response, "it's probably more boring than the online play. C'mon, this game was MADE to be played online."

Alternatively, the SP of a game can suck. Really badly. Boring, cliche-ridden, etc. But hey, if the online versus is good, you'll be popping this in your disc tray for quite some time.

I really don't care if a game has online or not. The only game I play online is Guild Wars and that's once or twice a week.

to tell you the truth I bought gears of war without having online on my 360....big mistake.

I'd just wish developers would find a balance to have a great lengthy single player campaign while still having great online multiplayer.

Yep, finding such a game is increasingly challenging.

But I happened to like the SP of Gears. In fact, I liked it just as much as the MP. I'd say it's an overall nice, well-rounded package. :P

I don't really care for it. I just don't get that sense of progression like I do in single player games and eventually it becomes stale to me.

I thought the SP was good, but the first time I played it thorugh I was playing with my friend and at the end of act 4, I said "man this is really starting to get good" then he informed me that it was almost over. the game definitly could have been alot longer.

Online at least doubles replayability. At least, for me it does.
