would you leave your team behind just to prevent your kd ratio from going down? would you avoid fire fights just because you might not kill the other guy and have your k/d go down? would you rage quit just because some of your kills ended up beings assists rather then kills. would you rage quit even if your team is winning but you arent. do you think someone who has 5 kills and 0 deaths is better then someone who has 25 kills and 30 deaths?

I hate having a negative K/D. If its a game im good at like COD, I will go for a positive K/D, if not then I dont care.

won't lie i have gotten annoyed when i get alot of assists and no kills, but to quit a game because of it is just crazy. I remember when i used to play MW2 and i would hear the top player on the other team say he "won" because he had the most kills even though his team lost.

DarkLink77

It also depends on the game. In Battlefield, you can have a crappy k/d as long as you can cap the flags, but in Counter Strike and Call of Duty, kills seem to matter much more (especially since CS doesn't have respawns, so you would just be a liability if you kept dying without killing anyone else).

That, too.

I was just assuming we were using a standard shooter with lots of different game modes as a base.

I'm baffled as to how anyone can think a score in a game is important.

Getting a great K/D ratio or being on top of the scoreboard is great, but its not necessary for a game to have fun in.

In really competitive games I find myself going for a positive K/D ratio more, but I play a lot of team games more now so helping my team advance is much more important than getting 'that' kill.

My K/D is usually pretty bad because Im always in the front lines trying to complete objectives. I rarely play regular team slayer in any game(Halo 4 is an exception), I prefer objective based modes. Thats why BF3 is probably the best multiplayer game this gen despite how badly Dice wants to break it. My K/D in every game usually 1.5-2.

DarkLink77

Pretty much.

I think it is a better idea to just ditch adding an overall K/D ratio and only show K/D ratios for specific playlists.

That being said I don't care THAT much. As long as it is positive than I am satisfied, I don't care about having a 4.56 K/D or whatever.

It isn't beyond the obvious face-value. Even in something as straightforward as team deathmatch you can find yourself in a situation where your actions still benefit the team despite a negative k/d spread, and k/d obviously doesn't take into account assists (which in something like Halo can be hugely valuable).

I much prefer to know my win/lose ratio but even that is meaningless, the most fun I had on a FPS is using a sniper and getting a few insanely good shots out of a hundred bad ones, even if I lost the match I still enjoyed it but generally tried to win as much as possible.

I get what you are saying. When I first started playing Red Orchestra 2 i was lucky to get a bullet actually hit something. I started to get better at it and even if I died ten times, shooting someone at a distance with a bolt action felt really satisfying.

In TDM k/d ratio is important and getting killed is a big deal; in CTF teamwork and sacrifice means much more.

Well the only FPS I really play is TF2 so kdr doesn't matter as much as coordinating pushes and such.

Although I would be wrong to say that it isn't important though. Still... when it comes down to it, dropping that med with a suicide attempt on the other team is almost always more worth it then running away and living. Well in comp play this is true at least, and there are situations where you can break this idea especially if you need to get your med out of danger.

In pub play, which is you CoD players equivalent to Team Deathmatch and is normally our equivalent to "Solo Fortress" kdr tends to be a little more important. You tend to frag faster (A LOT faster really since they don't know how to dm or coordinate) on pubs, so your score and your kills tend to count less considering the usually lower respawn time and higher amount of players per game. This is why most ppl strive to kill as much as possible without dying to make things feel more relevant on an otherwise rolled or stalemated game. It tends to go either way most of the time if the teams are similar. My kdr nowadays on average pubs rarely goes down from a 8:1 kdr, but thats because I play light classes with high power like Scout and Spy.

Haven't you heard? K/D ratio is a natural multiplier for penis length. That's really what motivates those people to do insane, often-detrimental stuff to get a high ratio; they need all the help they can get in that department.

Who said I wanted them to care? Not even I do. The trophy card in my sig is only there as proof of what games I have or havent played in forums discussions. For example, if I say I've beat x game they can check my trophies to see I'm talking the truth. capiche? If I cared about trophies I wouldnt have made a new account and started all my games all over again

What some ppl don't understand is that a high kdr means that you are actively doing your objective anyways in CoD. A high kdr keeps ppl off the field to do your objective at least on modes like CTF and such.

Killing things is very important. If you do the objective with a high kdr, you are probably doing things right. If your kdr is skewed too much you aren't being as much a credit to team. Now if you can do the objective without killing ppl and dying more often, more power to you, but the fact of the matter is you will probably be a burden if you got little dm skill on any objective based mode. Even on Team DM if you got a low kdr you can be fueling their chances to win since they just killed you a bunch.

KDR is just a number that is not really important by itself. The implications added to it are much more monumental though which is why kdr can be considered important at least objective wise and usually means you are a good guy to have on a team with a high positive kdr. Of course connected to my last idea kdr implications don't mean anything if you don't actually do the objective but it sure helps if you do.

Its pretty similar to TF2. Pubs (Team DM in this case) rely more on killing. Comp (CTF or Point Capture) relies less on kdr, but its still pretty important in both.

K/D ratios should be separated by game mode. In King of the Hill sitting back and killing people actually playing the game doesn't mean you're good, it actually means you suck.

I don't really care. No matter what my K/D Ratio is usually between 1.4 and 1.8. I'd rather barely go positive and win the match than go 30-5 and lose. People who play games just to pad their stats are lame. When I used to play CoD people would be in the lobbies going through and sizing everyone up based on their KD Ratios. It was so pathetic.

I like having a positive K/D ratio. If it's negative, then I think I suck :P. Important? Depends more on the game and mode.

Depends on the game. In something like, say, Quake or Unreal Tournament, TDM in any FPS, even Counter Strike it's the main measure of how well you're playing, and thus is an important statistic. In, say, Tribes, Battlefield, TF2, Planetside 2, W:ET or anything more objective based, KDR is much less important than actually playing the objective and helping your team win.
