What some ppl don't understand is that a high kdr means that you are actively doing your objective anyways in CoD. A high kdr keeps ppl off the field to do your objective at least on modes like CTF and such.
Killing things is very important. If you do the objective with a high kdr, you are probably doing things right. If your kdr is skewed too much you aren't being as much a credit to team. Now if you can do the objective without killing ppl and dying more often, more power to you, but the fact of the matter is you will probably be a burden if you got little dm skill on any objective based mode. Even on Team DM if you got a low kdr you can be fueling their chances to win since they just killed you a bunch.
KDR is just a number that is not really important by itself. The implications added to it are much more monumental though which is why kdr can be considered important at least objective wise and usually means you are a good guy to have on a team with a high positive kdr. Of course connected to my last idea kdr implications don't mean anything if you don't actually do the objective but it sure helps if you do.
Its pretty similar to TF2. Pubs (Team DM in this case) rely more on killing. Comp (CTF or Point Capture) relies less on kdr, but its still pretty important in both.
