I remember Lemmings and sheep where saying no one is going to buy a 600 dollar console. Can i said they have been pwned?

It's sold 3 million units since launch in 4.5 months. At this rate it will only sell 40 million or so in 5 years. That's less than half what PS1 and PS2 sold. Hell, it's closer to one-third what PS2 sold.
Not only that, but Sony predicted sales of 6 million by the end of March at launch. They're only halfway to their goal.
:D
There is NO positive way to spin this. I wish sheep would stop trying.

   You mean cows?Â
you don't kill a 100 million user base in one gen. the PS3 is going to do just fine for a looooong time. :)Kook18
Userbase is not the same as a fan base. Don't confuse the two.Â
[QUOTE="hummer700"]Its selling much less than expected, what happened to 6 million by March? :?ambesoundIt wasn't 6 million sold, it was 6 million shipped: http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/9001.cfm
Â
Oh that's much better.
Â
I'm not disputing that PS3 is selling. But selling well? Not quite. It has a long way to go to catch up to Wii and X360.AdobeArtist
Exactly. It has some major hurdles to overcome, and it needs some big titles to come out for it.Â

if a uses gets used to seeing the playstation or sony name on their console for the last two gens/ 10 years... they don't have to be a fanboy, they're just used to the name they've always been with. if you think they won't even consider going to the next gen with the PS3, that would just be silly. I'm not a cow or a sony fanboy, i don't even like sony that much, but you can't deny people won't follow the brandname a lone. hell I've heard of people just buying sony TVs, CD players, DVD players etc just cus they're used to the name even though there have been better & less expensive versions of those same products out at the time.[QUOTE="SpruceCaboose"][QUOTE="Kook18"]you don't kill a 100 million user base in one gen. the PS3 is going to do just fine for a looooong time. :)Kook18

A few people have brand loyalty in any industry, most go with the best deal.
If you make a great product, people will buy it regardless of price. For additional example, see: iPhone.I remember Lemmings and sheep where saying no one is going to buy a 600 dollar console. Can i said they have been pwned?

How about BMW vs Honda. Both are cars, but one is more expensive and luxurious. But the other sells better.

ah so then why is the ps3 selling at all then? i would've never bought one if i didn't go halves on it with my room mate. the console has potential in the future, but for what its offering now, i wouldn't pay 600 for Resistance and motorstorm (imo not bad games, just not worth the price of admission to me). so how has the ps3 sold 3 million units when the 360 and wii offer better deals (in the eyes of some)? if it were the same system coming out by say, "company Z" who were new to the gaming industry, i would bet it wouldn't have sold half of what it did in these last few months.I remember Lemmings and sheep where saying no one is going to buy a 600 dollar console. the ps3 needs all the hype it can get, selling so poorly....

The Xbox sold 22 million as a newcomer into the industry. The PSone sold alot, and Sony was a newcomer in gaming.
The PS3 is selling. Not as well as the other systems or as much as Sony hoped, but it is selling. That said, there are Sony fanboys in that 120 million. Not all of them by a long shot, but there are plenty who would buy the system on name alone.
If it was all about the previous generations sales translating into current generation sales, there would be no other system except Nintendo's, since Sega would have died from lack of support (it did, but it took awhile!), Sony would have died from lack of support, and MS would have died from lack of support, and the PS2 would have never had 120 million units sold.Â

How is that a poor example? A cell phone is a cell phone. Why on Earth would I spent $600 for one if the free phone my cell phone carrier gives me can perform the same functions? If you make a quality product, someone will pay. It might not break sales records (Although in this case, it did ;)), but there will be someone out there clamoring for it if it's well-built, well-designed, polished, etc... etc...sheep spinning it?

Its a poor example because its not out yet. Granted it will sell well most likely.
But to be fair, especially in the cell phone market, you won't pay $600. You get the handset subsidized with contracts and other incentives.
you don't kill a 100 million user base in one gen. the PS3 is going to do just fine for a looooong time. :)Kook18Well I am one of those million user base and I am NOT buying a PS3, I'd rather buy a 360, hell, all the franchises I liked on the PS2 will be on the 360, and I asure you man that I am not the only one who thinks like that! Besides that 100 million are not entirely accurate I was one of those victims that had to buy TWO PS2 because of that "disk read error" so what's the REAL user base??? nobody knows!!!

It's already been decided that the iPhone will not subject to the same discounts that you normally get with cell phones (e.g. if you sign on for a 2 year plan, the phone is cheaper.) It was one of the main reasons that VZW and Apple couldn't broker an agreement and for now, the iPhone will only be offered under Cingular's service. Apple controls the price on that item (as they've done with their iPod line. No rebates, discounts, etc... etc..)It's not like it's flying out of the shelves too. Of course there's always some technophile that's going to get it, + the fanboys and girls around the globe. 11Marcel

a jump from 2.3 millions of units sold to 3.07 millions in less than a week? if you don't call that flying out of the shelves, what do you call that then?

i'm not saying a console can live off brandname alone, i ust meant that it's easier to survive if you've proven to know what you're doing in the industry. xbox survived becasue halo was a surprise hit, PS1 survived because honesty nintendo and sega were still treating games like a toy business in the mid 90s. when sony came around, they meant business and instead of aiming their consoles are younger kids, they aimed the ps2 at older teenagers and people in their 20s. a group i felt nintendo and sega didn't even know were into games. honestly if the PS3 came out in november under a different name by a different company (same console just a different name slapped on it) i doubt a lot of people would've paid attention to it with the game library of the 360 & the hype the wii & its controller are getting atm.Remember when Sony said they will sell 6 million by 31st of April? Well they haven't even sold half of that yet....it's not selling "well".blacktornPsst. *Whispers* Please give a link showing proof of that, or you'll open up the door to get flamed. :P
