I expect it will last two more years

What is this five year business O___o
The Playstation 1/Nintendo 64 were released ~1995, with the PS2/Gamecube/Xbox being released ~2000, then the current generation in ~2005
Why would they be around double the amount of time this time? :?
In terms of the home consoles I think a few more years at least.I expect it will last two more years

i am guessing 2013 at the latest . To tell the turth the ps3 and 360 have been maxed out for a while now . What i worry about next gen is that games will be so expensive to make we wont see graphics improve much . Also i think we will see even less exclusives on all systems .
[QUOTE="Cronik959"]And nintendo,no? Nintendo is not a factorPC doesn't have a limit.
Until MS and Sony decide to make new consoles.

With how rampant piracy is on Xbox 360 and now Playstation 3, there's no way they're squeezing 4-5 more years out of PS3 or 360. I mean, the consoles themselves may last that long, but they'll both be replaced well before then. All the signs are there. This generation is coming to a close. For Nintendo 2012
For Microsoft 2014
For Sony 2015
Tbh, that's how I think it's going to happen

[QUOTE="electrosoul"]then you dont understand a thing about economy or developement costs, do you... New consoles have been released in recessions before. Take a read. From 2000-2003, many parts of the world went through recessions of varying lengths and intensities. And last I checked, that time period is when PS2, GBA, Gamecube, and Xbox hit the US and Europe.I expect it will last two more years

you dont understand the gaming industry.. If anyone honestly thinks that this generation is going to last 4 or 5 more years thats absolutely crazy. They will NOT be able to keep developers and gamers interest in these consoles for that long. Heck japan doesnt even care about these systems anymore at ALL.. Maybe launching a new system well be able to get some good eastern support again

Third party developers and publishers have been the one screaming the loudest that they Need this gen to last longer than usual to recoup dev costs. :| I certainly don't foresee Sony or MS launching a new gen without the 3rd party houses in support. I agree 4-5 years sounds like a long time, but it's not impossible.
FWIW, my earliest guess would be new hardware announcements in 2012 and launches in 2013.

Fer serious. Not to mention looking at it from a strictly profitability standpoint, there's no reason to launch any earlier than that.

2012 and 2013 seem alot more reasonable but I think that 2015 is just not going to happenA new gen. would be good for third parties. Its like impossible to get anything new of the ground this late into the generation and the genres that are popular now are pretty much what is going to remain dominant till the end. A new console generation is needed so new tech can open up the doors for new gameplay types and different genres can get some room to breathe because games this gen are getting more and more derivative/stagnant. The big sellers are just the same things over and over year to year and when devs. try to experiement they are met with poor sales

I don't think developers want to see this gen gone at all, same with a lot of people, I could see 2/3 years before we start seeing specs on new systems, another couple of years before they are released.I say 2012 until we have the first announcement and maybe will officially start in 2013, honestly, that's fine, i don't want to buy new consoles anytime soon.
why is 3rd poster leaving out nintendo
but any way
i think 3ds starts the next gen
mark my words
give wii and 360 another 1-1 and a half years ,thats right dont cry when kenict becomes low in use
at least i hope!
i know i definatelly want a new xbox
because the one out now is faulty! scratches disc-scratche one on me last night by the way and no way am i dealin with that one any more
uh uh tell some 1 who cares ,,
from this point on i wil buy ps3 and wii games if their good enough dead rising 2 bein an exception -i might as well finish the collection for 360 on that title
but ya i think this gen is in the books come february there cant be much change in sales position !
nintendo has a very wide gap ! and they can sell less wiis then compeition from this point forward and still come out victorious ,
the battle is right behind them , 2nd and 3rd is the ones to watch
cause no oneseven close to nintendo atm
one price drop would probably seal the deal even more tight for wii
not to mention this yrs line up
so yes put that in your books because its gonna happen
the sales look like this
console
1 wii
2 ?
3?
handheld
1 ds
2 psp once 3ds is out this gen of handhelds is irrelevent as far as counting sales for psp i stop counting psp or the compeitors once the gen /new handheld is out! so ps2 won last gen even without the added sales figures
wii would win regardless
heres the pattern for consoles
-nes 87 usa
- snes 91-usa
n64-96 -
gc 2001
wii 2006-thats nintendos pattern
so wii 2 should be
2011-2012 early 2013 -wii games will continue to come out til 2014 my prediction
ps1-95
ps2 2000
ps3-2006-til demand stops for it
ps4- 2012 same as wii 2 , sony will come out with one next to nintendo they almost always did
microsoft is to new for me to pick a pattern and they havent followed one
cause if you look 360 would have been discontinued next yr if they did
xbox 2001
360-2005
so im gonna guess 2012 -2013 with that said next gen lauches will probably be the closest ever
besides the gap 3ds is putting on them
handhelds were always wierd
nintendo
-gb-90-98
gbc-97-2002
gba-2001-2006
ds 2004-why short lifespans between launches i dont know
3ds-2011 making ds the longest running handheld besides gb
I feel like they will be leaked late 2011 as far as rumors. Confirmed 2012 E3 and released end of 2013. However, following Sony's cycle. ps1 - 1995 psOne - 1998 ps2-2000 psTwo-2003 ps3-2006 psThree-2009 ps4-2012 psFour-2015 Maybeh there is a pattern idkWadeFan
You might be on to something there... It seems like a logical decision for managment. The PS4 could hit the competition by surprise, retain some compatability with the PS3 and Sony could potentially support both consoles. The new console's controller could be primarily Move if they wanted as well.

IDK when I look closely at Nintendo all the signs of a new console are there. All this 2015 business that people want to say isn't going to happen unless you're talking about psp2 3000 or something. BTW next gen starts THIS fiscal year in JP. I wouldn't be shocked if E3 2011 reveals PSP 2 and The next gen Nintendo console. Nintendo hasn't really used so much 3rd party support this gen and it wouldn't hurt them so bad to move forward because lately Wii has slowed down sales largely for some time now. New systems don't ALWAYS have to be very expensive, if the new N console did a little less than the best in graphics to keep prices down it could pay off again. I'm not talking about staying a gen behind in graphics but something not top of the line either. Actually console graphics kings with the exception of the debatable graphics superiority of the SNES(because of the Sega add ons) have always lost the console wars(as far back as I can remember, since nes)
