I like it when they're around 10 hours long for campaign if there's online.

6 hours minimum, I don't mind short campaigns that much as long as they are high quality.

I don't care about how long they are, so long as the content is of top quality. If enough game modes are in the game it will mroe than justify the price tag(assuming the game is good). 6 hours is the lowest I'll go with this mindset though. Call of Duty 4/Gears of War were 6 hours(maybe less), and yes while they were short. They were tightly paced and a ton of fun overall. Plus they had somewhat fun MP(well COD 4 did, Gears of Wars mp was decent). If anything I hate overly long games. RPGs for instance suffer from having too much filler for padded hours to be quite honest. Dragone Age for instance is a game that honestly could shave 10 hours of tedious garbage you had to put up with.

If it´s an RPG I would like it to be very long, like Dragon Age,for instance.

If it´s a shooter I feel that 12h is a good length.(sadly, the only FPS that delivers in that regard this gen was Crysis)

Stupid shadow realm or whatever that place was, the ugly looking dreamworld, I quit at one of those parts so tedious and they gave you like no instructions or objectives.

Depends on the game really:

  • Adventure: 10-12 hours is good (That goes for most survival horror games too)
  • RPG: I expect at least 30 hours out of a decent RPG.
  • FPS: Would be nice if most were around 10-12 hours. I think Half-Life 2 holds the record for being the longest.

I prefer good quality over a long game, but also feel a little jipped if I pay full price and get 4 hours, I think somewhere in the region of 6-10 hours is about right.

Depends how much I enjoy the game.

I didn't enjoy playing GTA on the PS2, so that was 18ish hours of unenjoyment :P

I also hated CoD4 and that took me 3 hours to beat.

But I've enjoyed plenty of obscure jrpgs on the DS that have taken upwards of 40-50 hours, and I've also played many games I've liked that are around 7-8 hours. Aside from old games from the SNES/Genesis days or before I don't think I've ever actually experienced a great game that was as short as CoD4, or as big a waste of money as CoD4.

So really it just depends on if the game is good or not, and if the game does happen to be short maybe it makes up for it in multiplayer. Halo 3 was 8 or 9 hours, but then I played the multiplayer with a friend for way over 1,000 hours I must say.

Depends on the replay value and genre. Longer is not always better imo but at the same time it is, just I measure it differently than most.

10 hours for horrors, 15 hours for shooters, 20 hours for racing games, 25 hours for action games, and 45+ hours for RPGs.

Long enough so that I don't wish the game was longer after I completed it and not too long that it feels like a chore and too much of a time commitment (Oblivion and many other WRPG's for example).

A general rule of thumb for me is that if I get at least an hour of gameplay for every dollar I spent on the game, then it was worth it. Of course, there are exceptions. For example, Shadow of the Colossus was only ten hours long, but it completely shattered my idea of what I thought a video game could do from an artistic perspective.

Depends on genre for me :

RPG : Anywhere between 20 to 100+ hours

Action Adventure : 12 - 15 hours long

FPS - less than 8 hours unless it has a great campaign.

6-10 hours, anything longer and it usually ends up being really repetitive and a drag. i love games that have multiplayer to play with friends and others, and it just adds replayability and it keeps the game fresh. coop is also a huge plus and other special game modes just make me play the game over and over. SC:C is the perfect example of a solid short single player, good coop and online, as well as other modes that keep game interesting

"Long enough" if that counts. At the end of the day I'll prefer a short but a quality game such as Shadow of the Colossus over an extended and boring long game (nothing comes to mind at the moment). Having said that you can get long games that are very fun to play such as Okami, Witcher and Pokemon. I'd say the best would be a game which has reasonable length but it has lots of side quests that add to the main story and not just fetch quest which artificially increase the game length.

Sounds like your referencing a certain genre. For FPS I'd go with around 20 hours. If theres online less than that. Since I like RPGS the hours tend to get fairly high.

Depends on the game. Also, as much as I hate to admit it, achievements play a big role for me also. If a game has a lot of little achievements that are a pain to get just for the sake of extending game length, I'll generally be put off.

It depends but I usually like longer games I play them for single player and if their not atleast 15 hours on the first play-through I feel it is a waste of money. But it does depend on the genre I wouldn't like a Survival Horror game to be longer then 10 hours. SHMUPs it doesn't matter because you can just keep playing them again.

Depends on the game, but basically: as long as it can keep my attention. I didn't mind the 15-25 hour campaigns in the Metroid Prime games, but in more arcade-like games, I've usually had enough after an hour or 7, seeing as the main objective is getting a high score, which often makes the gameplay linear and much of the same.

So, for shooters I'd say ideally 10-15 hour campaigns (even though that is becoming more and more rare these days seeing as the focus is shifting towards online multiplayer), but adventure games need to be longer, say 20-25 hours, or more if it's interesting (such as the 40-hour story mode of Twilight Princess).

8-10 hours is perfect for non RPG type games. I like 40+ for RPG's.
