You know it's going to happen. MS announces a new console, and then puts everything they got behind it, abandoning their predecessor. I'm giving them two years until the 360 turns into another Xbox.
J Allard said when the Xbox 360 was first announced at the MTV special that Microsoft intends for Xbox 360 to be a five-year console, like most other consoles.
Going on that, you'll probably see an announcement for the next Xbox in early 2010 (or even 2009) with a release in Holiday 2010.
Of course, the slower than expected sales may require Microsoft to wait a bit longer to introduce their next console so that their investment in the 360 pays off, but yeah, in about three years or so.

Hehe theres a reason why J Allard isn't on the Xbox team anymore ;) . Anyways with the fact that 2 disc games are needed already on 3 future titles (maybe 4 with GTA IV), I think 1.5 years is the perfect time to either A) Screw every 360 gamer and pull a "Xbox" on us or B) Add a HD drive to support large sized games.

Microsoft wont simply walk off on thier console this time around.
Plus you typically only see about 2 generations per decade....
And we are standing in 07 so about...10-11 will be owning new consoles.
