How long do you think this gen will last? (POLL)

The 360 has already been out for almost 2 years!But they keep coming out with new consoles to keep it at least somewhat fresh like the 360 elite, halo edition, and the new 65 nanometer chip 360 which will probably be the standard 360 from now until the end of this gen.

The PS3 and Wii aren't even a year old yet.

So i think it's safe to this gen has just begun.

And with the PS3/360 being the beasts that they are, do YOU guys think it's accurate to say that theres still maybe 4 to 5 years left in this generation of gaming? Last gen lasted about 5 years, and this time around the consoles are bigger, badder, and supprt more features like HD and downloading movies, trailers, demos, VC games, browsing the net on your console and more.

I think this gen will go through until 2011 and maybe more.

I think a gen is done when at least 2 of the 3 companies releases their new consoles so I'll go with the classic 5 years. 2011.

We'll startto see rumors about the new consoles around 2010ish and they will be out late 2010/early 2011-next Nintendo console and 2012-2013ish for the next Playstation and Xbox.

Just answer the questionof why a 360 or gaming would ever need a blueray player other than to attractsales? (Of course this method of attracting sales isn't even very efficient; as proven by the success of the PS3. Who knows, doesn't sony plan to support the PS3 for 10 years? and I've heard speculation that nintendo may come out with a new console after two or three years that can match or surpass the 360 and PS3s power with the same wii controls, granted that it's all just speculation, but it's an interesting prospect.

I'm guessing 2010 for the Wii. (Coming from a Wii owner.) Nintendo will pull something out of their sleeves and show us a new console in 2009, 2010. They will raise the price of that console, so all the old Wii owners(you know, a lot of those casual ones), will buy buy buy on the new console.

And.. 2010 for the 360. Microsoft can only keep releasing FPS until it's turned into Mario Party. We'll have 25 versions to choose from, and the newest one your grandma can play.

The future gen Nintendo council probly wont cost any more than $299. I doubt any of the future gen councils will cost more than $399. Having over priced councils causes a lot of backlash.

second i saw this i knew fanboy.

once the ps3 has its ptential unlocked and the devs get all the parts to work in harmony with eachother great thigns will be possible. the ps3 is a more advanced machine it jsut needs to be understood. but unfortunately that may take some time.

i know sony wants to last ten years and ms would like to last close to that. but i cant see nintendo just sitting back and watching the eye candy those other two systems will show in a few years. im betting with all thisnoney they are making. nintendo next system will make the ps3 and 360 graphics look like nes games well maybe ps1 games lol

where is nfs pro street for xbox? where is Stuntman: Ignition? where is madden/fifa/live etc? where is jucied 2? the fact is xbox isn't getting anything while ps2 is getting many of the 360 games with worse graphics.

PS3 on 2016 because they said it willbefor 10 years, but I think they will make new console with MS new console so they won't be making the same mistake,it will last until 2014.

MS stated from the very beginning that they wanted to shorten the console life span. MS followed through with this ideal by killing the Xbox just 4 years after its launch. MS will continue this trend unless they choose not to make a successor to the Xbox line and let normal economic forces determine the end of the life span which, ironically, will lead to a better value (through a longer life) for Xbox360 owners.

PS3: 2013

Historically Sony consoles have 6 years between generations with at least 1 year of healthy life overlap. Sony has stated that they wish to continue this trend.

Wii: 2009-2010

The Wii's graphics will look severely outdated in the coming years in contrast with the rest of the media world having moved on to crisp HD.

Nintendo will have to release a new console (or an intermediary update) to compete.

no because the ps3's hardware is obviously better than the 360's and it also came out a year later so it will definitely last logner.. 360 realizes their hardware sucks so chances are they will decide to try to makea new system earlier rather than later..especially since they are going to be in a distance third in a few years

Um if you think the 360 is gonna be out of the game early becaues of lack of profits, then sony is gone in 2009. Lol the 360 is already making a little bit of profit on every system sold, the PS3 is still losing money on every system sold. The 360 is costing MS a good lump of cash because of the 3 year warranty they put out and the hard ware issues, but the new 65 nanometer chip installed in each xbox starting in a few months will NOT ONLY reduce manufacturing costs (Meaning MS makes MORE money per console sold), it also makes the 360 run more efficiently, and make less heat; which was the cause of the hardware failure.
