How Long Until Sony Loses All Their Third Party Exclusives?

With Yakuza and Valkyria Chronicles 4 recently being announced as multiplatform titles Sony is losing many of their Japanese third party exclusives including games such as Ni-Oh, Kingdom Hearts 3 and the Tales series. How long until we see Persona 5 also making their way over to PC and the Nintendo Switch? If FromSoftware makes another Bloodborne I highly doubt it will be an exclusive to Sony also. Sony's dominance over Japanese games and this is great for gamers.

Joking, SONY is doing fine... actually beyond that so if few games become multis in the near future ... you know Sony will do something about it with a new aaa ip.

Well, one could survive off a gaming PC, so the argument goes. Honestly though the best Sony console exclusives are usually the third party stuff so if they needed just first party content to sell their system then that wouldn't be enough for me... then again I don't game on PC.

Don't Sony own the Bloodborne rights it would be a huge loss if they didn't.

I don’t think they oncern pc as much as switch and Xbox. On the other hand i’m Happy that games like Yakuza get more players so western release will get guaranteed.

Does it really matter? Sony had no say in these games being exclusive on PS4, that was their developers choice because of the severe advantage the PS4 has over the rest of the market. A lot of these developers are seeing the potential in the PC market, and that the PC market is more willing to purchase their games than they thought.

More people will now be able to play some great games? Sounds great to me.

On topic, i was abt to make a thread on that. 3rd party exclusives are dead, brand loyalty is gone. As a ps4 fanboy, it is upsetting... I hope I dun come across like an a hole

It does matter, a major reason why the PS2 was a huge hit was because of the massive catalog of third party exclusives it had. Just because Sony had no say in these games being exclusive doesn't mean they didn't welcome them with open arms because it is free promotion to motivate consumers to buy their consoles and it saves them millions of dollars in having to develop and market games to win people over. Sony doesn't own Persona but that didn't stop them making a P5 PS4 bundle because they know Persona 5 is a good game that can motivate people to get a PS4.

While PC may not be as much of a threat to the PS4 in taking its exclusives away, the Nintendo Switch definitely is since the Japanese audience is the main audience both the Switch and PS4 share. If the majority of Japanese games make it to the Switch it will definitely hurt PS4 sales in Japan especially since the Switch can still get its own Japanese third party exclusives due to developers taking advantage of its handheld features.

It will probably never happen completely as long as Sony puts out consoles, but it will be a rare exception for troubled ventures or commissioned projects (like Spiderman by Insomniac).

It might become an issue if all 3 other systems are getting the games day and date . But that doesn't seem to be the case. As it is , the PS4 remains the best all in one place for Japanese support. And that's a W.

And Sony owns the Bloodborne IP. And rumor has it pre-production started last year on Bloodborne II. Only time will tell.

I am kind of surprised that 3rd-party exclusives are still a thing, but it comes down to what's worth the cost.

The reason a lot of Japanese games are exclusive to Sony's platform probably has a lot to do with Sony being Japanese. The Japanese actually have some sense of national pride and identity. And for smaller teams that want to cut costs and develop for one system, PS4 is the default.

On the other hand, if an exclusive game is successful then any loyalty goes out the window, and they try to get that game or its sequel to as many platforms as possible.

I wasn't sure how I felt about timed exclusives at first, but I will say those seem effective. People are so fickle, timing and exposure can make all the difference.

Sony OWNS the Bloodborne trademark. A BB sequel would still be a PS exclusive if Sony wanted it. The best non-PS platforms can hope for is another IP just like what happened with Dark Souls (because Sony owns the Demon's Souls trademark) or soemthing souls like, like what we've seen of Sekiro

Atlus do seem very open to bringing to PC, and I think that's due to a large push for Japanese software on the platform this gen. Those aren't secured 3rd-party exclusives as far as I know, so it's really a non-issue.

This is a major concern and extremely detrimental to Sony, after all gamers only games on the PS4 solely for exclusives otherwise they will play their games on PC. Everyone knows this. :)

Sega is porting console exclusives to the pc and not the x1 just goes to show how little Japanese devs like the xbox brand

Sony doesnt care on third party devs much anymore. They already let a huge amount of dev that used to solely release games on playstation to expand to other consoles like bandai namco "tales of", square "FF", koei tecmo "atelier". It hurts sony but unlike massive AAA games, these AA games runs identical on pc and ps4 and japanese game fans will buy a playstation even if the appears on pc because its where all jrpg and japanese game gathers.

Pretty sure most of these games had no involvement from Sony and it was developer decision to make it exclusive since Xbox isn't worth the developing cost. At least early on. I am sure most of them will discover the Xbox is still ain't worth the cost.

I booted it up about a week ago, and the frame-pacing just killed it. I've been playing DS with DSFix (30+ hrs) and now about 10-15hrs of Remastered and went back to BB, so it really killed it for me. I didn't notice a difference for Pro, but BB is way up there in terms of my favourites. Once I get used to it, i'll be okay... The shift was just jarring.

These systems are so similar that the cost for porting games are easier than it has ever been that smaller devs are able to make their games available across every platform.

Consistently I hope but I'm only thinking short sight to the possible benefits to a larger group.

Well... if we get down do games that end up being notorious the number of exclusives on PC the last 5 years would go down to 1-2 and on Xbox to 0. Sony is still on the lead

While we're at it... when did Cowa stick their noses up at A and AA games? Some of the more lauded games on the platform are exactly that... never heard of Persona 5, Journey and the like?
