I find it funny how GE gets remakes and semi-sequels left and right and none of them actually match what the game did in it's time.
Is that testimony to it's greatness or are the people who have the Bond license really out of ideas?

There has only been one golden eye remake and a spin off game. Two games that spawned off one from over a decade span... I really don't know what you are getting at with "remakes and sequels left and right"Theverydeepend
Let's see:
- The World is Not Enough (sequel of sorts; N64, PS1)
- Perfect Dark (spiritual sequel; no Bond license tho; N64)
- Time Splitters (similar gameplay mechancs; PS2)
- Nightfire (yet again a Bond FPS; PS2, GC, Xbox, PC)
- Rogue Agent (remake of sorts; PS2, GC, Xbox)
- GE "2010" ("proper" remake; Wii)
- Reloaded (see above; 360, PS3)
Okay, maybe some aren't remakes per se, but they certainly copy the concept.
And the only game that copied it really successfully was Pefect Dark imo.
Left and right? It's had a remake, an uprezing of that remake and a, reimagining(? I really don't know what to call Rogue Agent) in what, 14 years?

Wait a few months when they'll start making sequels to the remake ;)
It's ActiVision's license now after all :P

so much for a rational argument. Thats like saying every shooter in the 90s was a remake of doom. Or saying all mario games or zelda games are remakes....[QUOTE="nameless12345"]

What's not rational about it? All of the above listed games copy GoldenEye in one way or anther.
And there was a expresion for Doom-like games in the 90s - "Doom clone".
Mario and Zelda have familiar stucture and gameplay but have enough changes to pass as fully new games (the only remakes are Ocarina 3D and Mario 64 DS).

You said Goledeneye remakes, not 007 games or Goldeneye "clones".
So I have to agree with the other guy, so much for a rational argument.

So just because it's not remakes per defenition makes them terribly unique?
You have to be blind not to see the obvious GE copycats.

So does this mean all 007 movies are just clones and remakes of Dr. No?[QUOTE="Theverydeepend"]There has only been one golden eye remake and a spin off game. Goldeneye Rogue Agent wasn't a remake AT ALL.Actually, this proved the game was not so great during its time at all. Because it really wasn't.I find it funny how GE gets remakes and semi-sequels left and right and none of them actually match what the game did in it's time.

Prehaps we should also call Saints row a remake of GTA since they are both sandbox games? So every bond game is a goldeneye copy or remake? You're a joke. Nightfire was less of a Goldeneye copy than TimeSplitters 2 (i mean that in a good way).

Actually yes, GE's innovations and design are *very* copied in the Bond games that came out after it. If you can't see that that's unfortunate for you.

What better FPSes were there on the consoles at the time?
Goldeneye is pratically it's own IP at this point.
We have the Movie Spinoff, Rouge Agent (which I think is supposed to be either an Alternate Reality of the Movie or another Remake I don't know I didn't play that one), and the Reimagining.

Depends. If you mean the year the original came out maybe, if you mean all of 5th gen then it's massively subjective. Please Log In to post.
