I find it funny how GE gets remakes and semi-sequels left and right and none of them actually match what the game did in it's time.

Is that testimony to it's greatness or are the people who have the Bond license really out of ideas?

Discuss.

There has only been one golden eye remake and a spin off game. Two games that spawned off one from over a decade span... I really don't know what you are getting at with "remakes and sequels left and right"

Meh. Remakes seem par for the course these days, and they're almost never good. Maybe REmake justified it, but that's about it. As far as goldeneye, there are two because of the whole nintendo vs Microsoft thing. I haven't even bothered reading the reviews...NOTHING will replace 4 player proximity mines in the facility!

Let's see:

- The World is Not Enough (sequel of sorts; N64, PS1)

- Perfect Dark (spiritual sequel; no Bond license tho; N64)

- Time Splitters (similar gameplay mechancs; PS2)

- Nightfire (yet again a Bond FPS; PS2, GC, Xbox, PC)

- Rogue Agent (remake of sorts; PS2, GC, Xbox)

- GE "2010" ("proper" remake; Wii)

- Reloaded (see above; 360, PS3)

Okay, maybe some aren't remakes per se, but they certainly copy the concept.

And the only game that copied it really successfully was Pefect Dark imo.

Left and right? It's had a remake, an uprezing of that remake and a, reimagining(? I really don't know what to call Rogue Agent) in what, 14 years?

Wait a few months when they'll start making sequels to the remake ;)

It's ActiVision's license now after all :P

so much for a rational argument. Thats like saying every shooter in the 90s was a remake of doom. Or saying all mario games or zelda games are remakes....

What's not rational about it? All of the above listed games copy GoldenEye in one way or anther.

And there was a expresion for Doom-like games in the 90s - "Doom clone".

Mario and Zelda have familiar stucture and gameplay but have enough changes to pass as fully new games (the only remakes are Ocarina 3D and Mario 64 DS).

So I have to agree with the other guy, so much for a rational argument.

Isn't this upcoming game basically the Wii version? Except in HD (720p) and with (presumably) much better online?

So just because it's not remakes per defenition makes them terribly unique?

You have to be blind not to see the obvious GE copycats.

This year's is just a port of last year's Wii game, not really a legitimate attempt at a new remake. And last gen's wasn't remake, it just used the golden eye name to rope in more sales.

There was a interesting pic comparing the second GE level from four different games but I can't find it anymore.

So does this mean all 007 movies are just clones and remakes of Dr. No?

They should just do the same with as they did with perfect dark on the xbla, polish the original goldeneye up (maybe add co-op) and release it as a downloadable game. Unfortuantly that'll never happen as it will require an agreement between nintendo, microsoft and activision.

Nobody remembers the original Turok :( you could move and aim at the same time with just one N64 controller, something you can't do in GE

I find it funny how GE gets remakes and semi-sequels left and right and none of them actually match what the game did in it's time.

Is that testimony to it's greatness or are the people who have the Bond license really out of ideas?

Discuss.

nameless12345

Actually, this proved the game was not so great during its time at all. Because it really wasn't.

Prehaps we should also call Saints row a remake of GTA since they are both sandbox games?

So every bond game is a goldeneye copy or remake? You're a joke. Nightfire was less of a Goldeneye copy than TimeSplitters 2 (i mean that in a good way).

Actually yes, GE's innovations and design are *very* copied in the Bond games that came out after it. If you can't see that that's unfortunate for you.

Goldeneye is pratically it's own IP at this point.

We have the Movie Spinoff, Rouge Agent (which I think is supposed to be either an Alternate Reality of the Movie or another Remake I don't know I didn't play that one), and the Reimagining.

Depends. If you mean the year the original came out maybe, if you mean all of 5th gen then it's massively subjective.

There will always be one Goldeye and that one is one that came out on the N64 in 1997.
