Since I watch and buy a lot of movies and have a HDTV, BR was certainly a factor in deciding which console I was going to buy (already have a Wii...decision was between 360 or PS3). Having said that, it certainly wasn't the only factor. I bought PS1 and PS2 at launch. I've had 12 years of Sony consoles and loved every single second of the gaming experience they have provided. I've been alive long enough to seen the begining of home consoles and ALWAYS been involved in gaming...and for my money, the PS brand is easily king when it comes to gaming.
I expect the same from the PS3, althought it will never top the PS2...I doubt anything ever will. But the games and diversity I love are still here even if not to the extent I would like yet. But they ARE coming. In the meantime there has been a number of really great games that I've played and I really think the PS3 is a quality piece of hardware with great games.
When I decided to buy another console, the ONLY thing that drew me to the 360 was the more established library. I rarely play online, and I don't play FPS or arcade racers, and that seemed to wipe out the majority of the library. The games I mostly wanted were multiplat so I wouldn't miss out if I got a PS3. The 360 was $50 cheaper, but the PS3 had BR....that clinched it.
I'm happy with my choice and love the PS3.
