I found this generation one of the most boring and milkage of all time ( im gaming since ATARI 2600 ).

And no , its not because this gen didnt have very nice games like MSG4 , SMG , UC2 etc etc etc.

Its mostly because of the milkage of the same quality games over and over ( COD anyone? ) and because in my opinion there isnt anything major to see out of current gen anymore. Theres a peak to everything. We are on a seriously Flat point when only SERIOUSLY ARTISTICALLY wonders ( not graphically ) like for example Last Guardian , can feel kinda different , a tiny step ahead of what weve seen till now.

Technologically and all we are on a serious PEAK the last 2 to 3 years.

Before you jump on me , tell me that games are not about graphics and who cares about new hardware etc etc... Lets do a quick math here.

Think for a second , if this 8-10 years cycle MS/Sony wants occured since ATARI 2600 then.. this very moment we would gaming on PSone still!!

ATARI 2600 1977 - 1987

NES/MS 1987 - 1997

SNES/GEN 1997 - 2007

PS/SATURN/N64 2007-2017 ( we would GAMING ON THIS GEN this very moment )

Now tell me again , who cares about hardware? I do!!!

Also this extraordinary peak on console affects PC gaming as well when while PC got the raw power to run extremely detailed and truly new gen games ( DX11 , 1080p , etc etc ) it stacked to DX9c or DX10 PC ports from consoles. Thats sad also for PC gamers. ( a bit controversial but thats other story )

Games seems less and less exciting and breathtaking each year and i blame the already outdated hardware for this and only that. I was wondering if im alone on this so i decided to make a poll about it and see other gamers opinion. Maybe im wrong and psycho but thats my opinion.

Peace.

I have been gaming in this gen since 05. While im still loving this gen, new consoles in about one year would be perfect.

We wouldnt game on PS1 gen consoles... Technology still advances even if a new console doesnt come out. There would just be bigger differences in generations.

The generation isn't necessarily old, it just got stale too quickly.

There was too much focus on a couple minor features (i.e. achievements) and genres (FPS's) that there wasn't enough innovation anywhere else.

This generation could have a lot of life left if developers shifted their focus

Do people honestly believe that a new gen will put an end to "milkage"? Get real. If anything, DLC and other crap will only become more prominent as development costs continue to increase, as always.

Console hardware needs to improve (at least slightly) if it is going to remain relevant. Developers will just move over to PC if consoles don't change. I want this new gen very much so now that Nintendo is pushing for it. I'm loving my Wii now and can't wait to see what Nintendo has in store.

What you would prefer ?

A COD with entirely new features , engine , DX11 and a god knows what else , or one of the same COD with minor improvements on ...textures...

Its fact that if this gen would have been a typical 5 years old one , MW3 would be on next gen consoles for example. And i probably wouldnt see it as milkage since would have been truly next gen game and i bet would wow me instead of ... MW3? Oh well..ok..whatever...

Thats my point.

Yes, but we shouldn't go to next gen for a couple years, I'd like to see ~the power of at least 1 580 with the appropriate ram/cpu to go with it, and that's just not going to happen if it was 'next gen already'.

I do... Everyone has or is upgrading to 1080p... It's the era of 3D, high resand jaggyless gaming.

Now that you mentioning RAM.. I really wonder why consoles insist to have low RAM ( 512MB or 1GB ) and if next gen console will come with 3 or 4GB ( since now are cheap and games demanding)

Graphics really don't mean much to me - and saying that MW3 on next-gen consoles would "wow" you is pure speculation. COD has gotten old - and it's not because of graphics. It's because for the past four years the franchise has used the same rehashed gameplay mechanics.

Maybe they only look at the near future, and never think that at the end of the consoles life there will be games that sorely need the extra ram? I hope sony/ms don't skimp :(

[QUOTE="AncientDozer"]The only reason I'd ever give a damn for launching the new generation is that they'd improve gameplay and story. And muiltiplayer features. I could care less about graphics. That's only icing on a cake. But I fear the next generation will only push up development costs.

More powerful hardware is a lot more than just better graphics.

I think this gen has gone on long enough, but at the same time, don't mind waiting for tech to improve because that means it'll be all the bigger jump in visuals, framerate, etc. when next gen finally starts.

It's fine, it stared to feel kind of old thanks to the huge rumors of new consoles, but with the echonomy as it is, i'm glad that next gen won't start until next year.

I assume you're talking about consoles? This gen was old about sixth months after the Xbox 360 was released when PC hardware quickly surpassed it.

Consoles are so far behind PC now it's affecting PC gaming. I think we need new consoles.
