I know at least 2 people who have. It would be really interesting to see how the PS3's sales would change if it couldnt play Blu-Ray movies. I would estimate that somewhere between 5-20% would have purchased it purely as a Blu-Ray player. Im not sure about anywhere else, but standalone Blu-Ray players cost exactly the same as the PS3 here in Australia.

The one guy I know who has a PS3 bought it for the Blu-Ray. Another guy I know is looking at picking one up for the Blu-Ray, or he's going to buy the Toshiba HD-DVD.

Makes sense, since the PS3 is foremost a Blu-Ray player and not a game console.

The blu ray player is the reason I want one. It will be nice when some must have games are released, but I love High defintion movies and thats the main reason I want one. without a blu ray player I probably wouldn't have much of a desire to pick one up.

I got my Ps3( which I gave away ) to play games ( which it don't have ) I spent $1,100 on a Blu-ray-HDdvd Player.why did sony force that Blu-ray player on people in the first place. If I wanted a Blu-Ray play I would never Buy a gaming system for it. YOu know how lame that looks when you have peopleover and u say "you want to check out a Blu-Ray Movie!?" Then you open a
PS3! That say's 1 thing "Borke!" PS3 is not kool to show off for a Blu-Ray player. If you want to get a Real Blu-Ray player get this

there would be people doing that no doubt but i dont think that people here are doing it because they are gamers and would ultimately buy it for games, but if you went on to like some sort of blu-ray forum some people would probably say that, that is what they are doing
