How many studios does it take to release one Xbox game?

Microsoft has over 20 of them now and the XSX still has a big goose egg for first party titles with nothing even targeting this year except for possibly Halo Infinite which looks like ass.

It begs the question does Microsoft really have games in development or are they just buying up studios to have them do nothing? Because let's not forget that's what they did to Rare for the longest time when they were avatar prop slaves. Who's to say they're not doing the same to Bethesda and Obsidian?

Games take time to make. Unfortunately for MS, it takes a little more than time to make a game that doesn't flop.

I always find it odd that the people most upset/obsessed with Xbox is the ones that don't own one. 🤔

More dose not mean better, I like how fanboys think complaining about Jim R and ignoring the fact that under Phil barely any exclusive got released. Gamepass and PsNow will ruin gaming they will look at completion rate of games and make them shorter and cheaper, more quantities and less quality. That’s my fear fellow gamers

Xbox is a service now. Most of us have PC's, phones, tablets, watches and whatever else GP is available on. It's a bad look for Microsoft to have this service available on so many platforms while not having any new games ready for release anytime soon.

Xbox consoles have always brought up the rear and people trying out GP for the first time are seeing they didn't miss out on anything when they bought a PS2 over an Xbox or a PS3 over a 360. Microsoft's back catalog is an embarrassment for a company that has been in the console market for 20 years.

Building games, especially as a new studio, is time consuming. God of War to five years to make with a fully staffed studio. That's pre-covid. No one should expect games to be pumped out in high numbers until at least next year.

Exactly, all the studios MS bought are at best 4 years away from releasing a game. Bethesda might release something sooner since they probably had some games cooking

I mean, the Xbox has no games things has been beaten and Phil is trying to do something about it. If they have no games in like 3 years, then we can laugh again at their failure. Until then, we play the waiting game for the most part because they are making good moves.

Sony on the other hand are making bad moves so far, which is why people are clowning them. They are closing down studios and promised they are focused on making their movie games over other and new games. They're doing what everyone clowned the Microsoft for doing during the Xbox One's years.

They'll likely have something out in due time. Or they should at the very least. I'd say give them 3 years. If they have done absolutely nothing by 3 years, then point and laugh.

@luxuryheart: you close down studios that make no profit over the years that didn’t just happen overnight fanboys need to get that in their head that is what any reasonable business would do and they are still releasing games including new ips and somehow that’s bad. Once they stop releasing new games like MS that’s when you start complaining. MS is making some great moves but yet have to announce anything new and my fear is them focusing on Gamepass so much quality of games will go down because they need subscribers. Time will tell

Sorry,but GamePass sh*ts all over anything Sony has and Xbox still the better console overall value. I’m a console gamer and don’t think I’ll pay $70 for a game I get basically for free when considered I get 100’s of games at a fraction of the price of just one. PS5 is just not worth the $500-$600 price tag in my opinion.

First of all, Sony isn't doing any better, let's make that clear. Anyone who has read my posts knows my disgust with the next gen [unimpressive graphics, no standard 4k/60fps, no standard RT, no next-gen experience, no games].

However, if this is anything like the Xbox 360 cycle, games will come in year 2 at a rapid pace. I remember the only game in the first year was Ghost Recon. Then there was this amazing flood of Gears, Halo 3, Rainbow Six Vegas, etc.

And no, I'm not worried about Halo.

You do know that it takes YEARS to develop a game, right? I swear cows think that it takes 6 months to poop out a AAA title when talking about the Xbox yet will gladly sit through 4 consecutive E3's seeing the same 3 Sony exclusive trailers with 'Coming soon' at the end.

Nah, other developers and publishers are releasing games. This is a Microsoft problem. 20+ studios and not a single one of them have any games on the horizon. That should raise a huge red flag for anyone who isn't a blind fanboy.

A few MS games should be coming this year. But I'm happy to mix up gaming with 3rd party games while Xbox games studios work on their games.

It takes 5-7 years to make a game. Most of those studios were purchased within the past 3 years.

I don't know, but it apparently greatly concerns you. Why don't you go research the topic and get back to us with some graphs and charts of your findings.

I'm late to this post but this is the correct answer and not only that, with the pandemic crisis going on, you'll be kept waiting longer than the developers have planed for. (This is why everyone needs to get vaccinated so people can return to the studios and get back on track making games.
