PS1 $299 at launch N64 ??? I only remember that it was delayed many times and by Christmas after launch it was nowhere to b seen. But it surely was $299 or $399. But the cartridges were poisonous! $70+ !!!!

The games themselves were $50 as far as I can remember, I do remember paying 54.99 for Perfect Dark, though. Plus that damn expansion pack too.

I payed $84.99 (TRU) for Goldeneye and RE2 on their respective launch days and $89.99 (Blockbuster) for Perfect Dark when it came out... those cartridge-based games were expensive back in the day...

From what I remember whatever the publisher/store that sold them wanted. Some were $50 others were up to like $70.

Pricing, unlike today, back then it wasn't consistent. Not everything was at $50 or $60, it went all over the map. PS1 titles would go from $10 to $70, and N64 games would go from $40 to $100. It was all very random and chaotic. It wasn't until last gen when everybody decided $50 was the standard price for a new game.

I don't remember PS1 games being that expensive. I think it was between £30 and £40, while N64 games were a good bit more expensive. I remember paying £60 for Goldeneye, but most of them were a bit cheaper than that.

PS1 games were usually $40 USD. N64 games were frequently released in the $60-70 range due to the fact that they used expensive ROM chips for the cartridges.

Yeah for N64 games a lot of publishers released based on the number of ROM chips needed, which depended on how big the game was. So a huge game like OOT was big bucks.

It just amazes me at that price. What would that equal today due to inflation? Scary..... :|

I kind of miss varied prices, then short games like ODST or Heavenly Sword would cost less for the time you get from them. The downside is that MW2 would be insanely overpriced (thank you, Activision) and games like Killzone 2 or Halo 2 would be up to the $100 mark.

Yeah, I just miss the $50 price point now.

$200 x 10 years of inflation @ a minimal 5% = $300 really they weren't any cheaper back in the day.

$120 easy if not $130-$140, games are cheap compared to the old days, people are just cheap.

I bought the Saturn over the PS1 and it was the best decision ever. Back on topic, I bought Zelda:OoT, Zelda:MM, and Donkey Kong for $80.

It depended where I went. Keep in mind that I was a kid back then, so I didn't know everything about gamind as I do now ;). I know I got a few PSone games for $30, some were $50, and I'll always remember Tomb Raider, because that sucker costed me $70...I kid you not. I was small back then, ok? I thought that the more it costed, the more awesome it was :P. Never buy games for Kay Bee stores, people!
