I want to get an idea of what people in SWs believe is the cost for a Gaming PC.

The requirements for the gaming PC will be the following:

- Must be able to play games at the level of a PS3 or a 360 (720p at the same level of graphics). Benchmarks to think of would be Lost Planet, Call of Juarez, Bioshock)

- Does not need to include a monitor / speakers

- Should include keyboard / mouse

- Must be built from the ground up

Try to elborate in your post. In other words, try to suggest what it would cost a noob gamer and what it would cost a educated gamer. For example, a noob gamer would probably buy from Dell or HP. A educated gamer may buy cheaper parts and then overclock them for less.

1000 $ If you build it yourself, you will be able to run all games without big trouble. N ow if you wanna buy a gaming rig already made and so on. Around 1500$+

Personally, I think a console-equvilent PC would need the following: nVidia 7800 ($150), 2 gigs of ram 800mhz ($50), c2d e6600 ($200), and whatever motherboard lets these parts sit on it nicely ($100). That totals about $500, so ya, I can definitly see a total price being well under $1000.

Now, with the same rig. If someone knew what they were doing, they could overclock all these parts (especially the e6600) and get even more out of their rig.

Of course, if one only needed to upgrade, those 4 parts I listed would be all they likely need.

Honestly to make the PS3/360 equal to the PC you're going to need a display that is high definition. With that being said, on the Xbox 360 you can use the VGA adapter. But honestly, you can spend less than $1000 and be very, very happy with your PC. You don't even have to go DirectX 10 either. I have a dual X1900 setup in my DFI Crossfire motherboard. Got it cheap too. :P

Ya, I can agree with that. Thinking back now, I wish I spread the prices a bit more in the poll. I had imagined there would have been a bigger price descrepency in people's minds.

I would say $800-$900. I built a superior system for only $1200. It can run Crysis (hopefully with DX10).

Though in the long run you get more use out of a computer than you do a gaming console.

Looking at PCs just for gaming is quite narrow.

i don't understand every time someone talk about pc price hermit says its almost the same price as a console but when they show the spec of their rig its obvious they have paid much more than that and they will bashed any cheap pc component you can buy to save money its the same thing with upgrade they will say you don't have to upgrade that often but they will refuse to play on 800 by 600 with medium setting for me console are far more cost efficient than pc gaming!

I voted $500. After all, you said it only has to be on par with the PS3 and 360. It won't take $1,000 to do that.

Yeah, I'd definitely vote for something on the $800 range. Monitor, speakers, KB/M. You could also probably throw in a half decent printer in there.

Dont forget that with the PC you also need to upgrade more frequently, i brought my X1950XTX not too long ago when it was super high end. Now it cant even run Crysis on MAXIMUM detail, still though i should be able to play it at almost everything Highest @ a decent and stable framerate (35-45 fps), so i think i should be upgrading in half a year or so. Still though the PC is worth it because it does more than just games.

PC Game prices:

17-25 quid.

Xbox Games:

40-45 ... always.

What would you consider equivalent? Some games that are poorly optimised console ports may not run well on some systems while well optimised ones would look far superior on PC. I think an Athlon 64 X2 5200, 2GB DDR2 and a Ge Force 8600 would give consoles a run for their money in most games and wouldn't cost much to build. $400-600 without looking up the exact prices.
