How much money have you spent during your life on video games? Thoughts?

How much money have you spent during your life on video games? Do you think you've spent too much? Too little? What would you do with all that money if you hadn't spent it? Was there a time period in your gaming life where you wish you had spent less? Etc

I'm fairly young, most of my video game stuff was bought for me up until 3 years ago. Still, I'd say I've spent over $2000. I just wish I hadn't wasted some of that buying sequels on the Wii to Gamecube games (Mario Strikers, Baseball, Party, Kart, Smash Bros etc)- I sold all of those eventually because I realized how much more I liked the Gamecube versions and controls. Also there was a period when I was asking for yearly games like Madden and COD. Only one of those per gen is plenty.

10-15k I'm guessing. Probably more if you add in the parts for gaming PCs.

I didn't have the means to buy everything I wanted to play up until like 14 years ago so I played few games but I was freaking good at them. But if you count every system I owned at one point or another I guess I'm around 8k

20k+, factoring in TV's, PC upgrades, monitors, etc, maybe 40k.

In the last three months 4k+ $2800 on a new pc, $1200 on a 50" 4k tv, $150 on steam games (they were cheap), and $100 on new headphones. lifetime guessing less than 7k.

The first time I spent my own money on a video game was when I picked up 'The 3 Stooges' NES cart in 89 or 90. It was absolutely terrible, but I played the hell out of that game to get my money's worth.

Since then I imagine I've probably spent close to $30k or thereabouts. I tend to get deep with only a handful of games per year, sometimes playing one game almost exclusively for several years. Because of that I think I probably spent less on software than average.

I have regretted individual purchases (looking at you, Stooges), but overall it's been money well spent. There are worse ways to spend ones money.

No idea. Probably a fairly small number compared to most people on here. I only started gaming since Gameboy Pocket or so, and I wasn't one to buy much at the time. Even now I still don't buy that much due to random interests coming up. I'm also not one to upgrade my PC often.

Rough guess, probably about 20-25k. Doesn't bother me a bit either. I've been enjoying games since I was old enough to hold a controller, lots of fun, lots of good times with friends, I wouldn't change a thing.

And tbh, it's a relatively cheap hobby.

Way too much probably over 10k. Been at it forever though,have about 300 ps3 games. Bought four steel battalion controllers that was 1200 ten years ago that was my worst gaming obsession ,helplessly hooked until they turned off the servers. my xwife sure hated it haha

Not sure on exact amount. I added it up years ago and I know for a fact I spent over $16K on video games/consoles by the end of the PS2 era/2006.

I stopped counting after that, but I know I must have hit over $20K by now. I bought PS3, 4 xbox360's, wii, psp, ds, 3ds, vita plus tons of games for all those systems. Too lazy to add it up. Probably a lot more than $20K if I actually added it up.

I don't know but I have spent a lot on consoles and videogames in the past.

I honestly don't know. I hit rock bottom back in 2007-9, got a good career and got back into gaming.

I don't even want to think about that. Especially last gen on it's own. I really like the Xbox 360, but the milking business model that came with it was too much. I don't want to think about how much money I spent on console gaming last gen, and I didn't even realise until I went to the PC. This gen both MS and Sony have adopted the same milking business model.

This is always depressing to think about. I probably spend over $2K a year on games alone. Then add DLC, online subscriptions and I've spent over $700 on Amiibo..........

Don't get me started on PC upgrades either.

A lot I never bothered to keep tabs. I've been buying games with my own money since 1984 or so.

But I've slowly started to ween myself off wasting money on games. I used to buy all kinds of stuff every steam sale, but I realized having a backlog of games I'll never play is wasting money just to say I have something. I also stopped buying single player games new and just wait til they go on sale. Just picked up Alien Isolation for $18 last week.

Now I only buy games that I know I'll play, got Halo preordered and downloaded already. I still buy probably 3-4 AAA type games a month.

But lately the games taking up my playtime are free like Smite.

Too much.

I flip my socks upside down so the holes from the heels are on the top of my foot.
