...it launched at $500? I see sheep bragging about sales all the time but what if the playing field was even and people actually bought the console they thought was the best? Discuss.

A lot less obviously. But how much would the PS3 and 360 have sold if they were only available at 500 dollars? The PS3 was available for 600 and 500 for a while, but this quickly dropped to 400.
this hypothetical is a bit useless. Like a previous poster said, if it costed more it would have more.
But I'll endulge you tc. You mean you think that the wii's appeal is all price? Well that's wrong. The wii is not only the most inexpensive console out there, it is also the most desired console. So sales for the wii would be worse in your hypothetical, it would not have overtaken the 360's userbase, but it would be keeping pace with the 360 and ps3 on a month to month basis

Can-o-Mark
The 80 gig is still $500. Not a deal.
The history of Wii would have been an entirely different story. Current gen gaming systems in each generation become even more popular when there is sufficient games and the price point hits that sweet spot for gamers.
