How likely do you think SONY will support / allow this on PS4?
Makes me think that iOS and Steam really got it right in terms of giving you the freedom to change hardware without losing your software library.

All you have to do is call Microsoft Customer Service. I did today to renew my Live ($29.99 for the year by the way) and I brought up if the Live would carry over on the new system. He said yes. Our gamertag and all of our downloads and saves would carry over onto the next XBOX and other devices. Other devices? Hmm?

[QUOTE="timbers_WSU"]RiiiiiightThey probably meant PS4 because Microsoft's big reveal is that they're going multiplatform.:lol::lol:All you have to do is call Microsoft Customer Service. Not sure for this gen but from now on I'm pretty positive that BC will be supported through all the next gens...
Consoles finally decided to do a PC like architecture and I think they gonna stick to this. So from now on PS4,PS5,PS6.... should all be BC ready.
Just by observing... we're in the era where SONY and MS are trying to build and maintain a family ecosystem with exclusive cross-play and cross-buy games.
.......wah?I have roughly 20 something games downloaded on to my PS3 HDD and really don't intend to redownload any of them on to my PS4 IF the option is presented.
W1NGMAN-
I've downloaded quite a bit including Catherine when it was only $20.
I'll be disappointed, but be even more disappointed when my PS3 decides to stop working.
I have 11 PSN games: Demon's Souls, Final Fantasy IX, Jak & Daxter Collection, Little Big Planet, The Sly Collection, Wolfenstein 3D, and inFAMOUS.
I don't care if I can't play it on the PS4 I will still keep my PS3 like I keep all of my systems.
Between me and a friend game sharing about 150$ and from what we have been told they wont work.
I just hope MS is smart and allows it since I have about 400$ on XBL.
Do people legitimately care about playing last gen games on a next gen console? This is a serious question. Even if that were the case, wouldn't your rather they touched it up and resold it for 10-15?
GD1551
Why not? I play old games quite often, and still actively go out to discover ones I haven't played. The only reason I keep any old systems around is because newer systems aren't compatible.
Imagine that mindset with other media. Do you not listen to any music that's 8 years or older, or watch any movies that are 8 years or older, or read any books that are 8 years or older? If you do then that's just sad because you're keeping yourself from a treasure trove of greatness.

You realize I asked if people legimately care about last gen games on a NEXT gen console? I know people have inclinations to play older games, I am playing through castlevania again right now as we speak but do you think that's something I care if my PS3 can play or not?

I've got a lot of PSN games ( i think over 150 games ).. played most of them, PSN was a great part of gaming this gen and i think we wont be able to have them on PS4 ( at least not from the start )
I'm not going to freak out if BC is not available but still why not? I'd like to put away my old console while having all the games still available to me. At least that's a reason why I don't invest heavily on digital content.
V3rciS
BC increases the price of the console and software emulation is generally very wonky. I'd say if they could some how make an addon that would enable BC that would be the best middle ground.

That's why I said "I'm not even expecting it for this gen" but I'm betting all my money that all the rest of the gens will support BC with minimal cost.
Couple 100$ on PSN and 1k+ on XBL, I don't really expect either company to have them work on the next console.
