How often is there an honest-to-goodness Intellectual debate on SW?

I feel as though SW was very constructive a few years back. However, it has gotten to be quite ridiculous at this point.

It seems most topics now adays are just baseless arguments, followed by replies based on hysterically inaccurate and delusional replies.

Every one in a while, there is a good topic where the author puts together a very good set of arguments... however, the thread is quickly flooded by what many other boards would consider as "trolls". Many of whom I could swear are making statements purely to watch the reactions of other members. Others, who simply repeat unfounded statements they read in threads from before. Leaving the "discussion" empty and void.

It's quite frustrating. However, since it's a relatively "open" forum, it's up to the community to change.

What do you think? How often do you think a honest-to-goodness intellectual debate ensues on SW?

Lol but rly I come to SW to get a good laugh now and again to read ranting fanboys' comments. Once in every blue moon I see a real debate.

I have made several topics in this forum which have been good mature discussions, although a few of them got abit out of hand afterwards :)

The main reason why this forum has gone a bit wild lately is due to hype from GTA4 (imo). Cows and Lemmings are praising it alot and making several discussions about it. Hence the craze.

Wait 1-2 weeks after GTA4 has come out, and this forum will relax itself back to its original state :)

Everyone acting like they would like to take part in a real debate on the Internet are full of it. And most the people that will join this thread are not intellectual in the slightest, nor do they really care to be. Sure in real life it is a lot different for everyone.

I have read posts by people that think they are so brilliant but seem to lack basic reading comprehension skills.

Nobody comes to this forum, or any Internet game forum, looking for a quality debate.

What passes for an intellectual debate here is people using the "IMO" shield to say whatever they want, be a total prick and then say "Hey, its my opinion, you cant touch that" and nothing ever goes any place. And when people do think they get in one, it is usually a group of people who in general agree, and start kissing each others ass.

For God's sakes, it's video game consoles, who gives a rats ass? Is the world going to end if there isn't a serious debate in System Wars? The overall topic of System Wars is childish in the first place, let alone people trying to have intelligent conversations about the System Wars, if you want intelligent conversations you have to talk about something that actually has an impact on the world, not video games.Bluestorm-Kalas

This is the truth and the reason I stopped posting here. I still remember some of the better days of SW when every once in a while an interesting topic would come up and contain a legitimate disscussion.

Now SW is filled with people pretending to be fanboys as they spam topics to get their post count up.

Generally, just remember who posts crappy topics, don't usually open topics that contain a title that is obvious rubbish, and don't open topics that are started by someone with an obviously retarded username, and you're on your way :)

Haha, yeah your actually right. I am relatively new to Gamespot (8 months) and I cant even remember any time that I went into SW for an interesting, fact-to-fact debate, more for a laugh, but I would enjoy being able to have a decent, fact-to-fact discussion in SW.

How does the idea of a Union for it strike you guys?

Well I agree with you about everything in that except the point about retarded usernames, seen as yours is "Wahoo2k" and other peoples usernames are along the lines of "Flowdee79" and CyberFairy, I would even admit myself that my username was such a f***in s**t username to pick and is quite retarded but yeah, you do have to have an eye for the warning signs.

This is a gamers forum. Not a community politics.

the point of a religious debate is to try and convince you that your view is right. So even if the atheist side is speaking they would still be forcing their atheist views down other peoples throats just as much as the religious people trying to counter them.

There's never been an intelligent debate on SW. Even if someone posts a well thought out opinion, the spam trolls (aka fanboys) from all sides will post "generic opinion as fact numbers 17-20" and ruin the thread.

That question has been answered. All Microsoft's pandering to Japan flopped HARD. MS got owned big-time.

How can I say PS3 launch games will be AAA? The same way lemmings said the 360 will have "teh best launch EVAR!!!11!"....except, I'll be right. The PS2 had 3 AAA titles at launch.
